Another day, another celebrity making headlines for being in trouble with Uncle Sam. About one year ago, we told you guys that singer Kelis had been hit with a tax lien exceeding $300,000 after she failed to pay her taxes in 2004 and 2010. In addition to the initial $330,000 that the “Milkshake” singer owed to the State of New York, she also reportedly owed $61,737.29 in back taxes in California and $213,932.02 to Uncle Sam.

If that isn’t enough, TMZ is reporting that the 33-year-old beauty now owes an additional $134,000 to the federal government, bringing her tax bill to a figure well above $700,000. That’s a lot of cash, but the good news is that the “Bossy” singer looks like she’s making strides to get her finances under control. Earlier this month she sold her New York City condo for $2.2 million. That’s certainly enough dough to cover her current tax bill. So hopefully she’s able to things squared away with “The Man.” We’d really hate to see her hauled off to prison.

In other Kelis news, the über versatile New York native recently teamed up with British pop recording artist, Dan Black for catchy new dance track, “Hearts”

You Thought Uncle Sam Was Playing When He Said Run Him His Money?! Celebrities Who Refuse To Pay Their Taxes

To put it plainly: This doesn’t make any sense. When you make millions on an album or a contract, you know the government has got to get it’s cut. But for some reason these celebrities thought taxes were optional and they tried to hold out on the Uncle Same as long as possible. Unfortunately for them, now they’re paying the price.

Flav pulled the ultimate comeback when he started covering the reality show circuit. But where has our favorite Public Enemy been recently? Frying chicken. Flav’s Chicken & Ribs Restaurants are keeping your boy afloat while he pays back the $900,000 that he owes the IRS. But apparently the restaurant business is even tougher than the rap game. Two of his restaurants have closed thanks to bounced paychecks and missed bills. He’s opening a third one in Detroit soon. Let’s hope the third time is a financial charm.

Oh Kells: R. Kelly Joins The Long List of Celebs Who Don’t Think They Have To Pay Taxes Like The Rest Of Us

Common sense tells you you can’t just not pay your taxes and observation should tell you if you’re a celebrity, no matter how long you think Uncle Sam doesn’t know you owe him, he will eventually catch up to your black tale and make you pay.

R. Kelly is the latest IRS casualty and his tax demise has been seven years in the making, which is why he now owes the feds $4.8 million. Here’s the breakdown by year.

2005 – $1,472,366.77
2006 – $710,520.51
2007 – $376,180.11
2008 – $1,122,694.90
2009 – $173,815.18
2010 – $992,495.24

Now if you think back several months, R. Kelly was out here trying to get funding just to release another 800 chapters of “Trapped in the Closet,” which interestingly came out in 2005 when his tax issues started, so we know this man doesn’t have the money.

A rep for Kells told TMZ, “R. Kelly is in the process of working everything out with the government and is confident that all his obligations will be satisfied.”

I hate to say it, but he might want to get a reality show like everyone else, including his ex-wife, just to settle this debt. Or, he should actually focus on coming out with a new album instead of reviving “Trapped in the Closet” seven years later. He could also try the Lauryn Hill approach, but as thoughtful as her tax evasion explanation was, I’m pretty sure the government is not hearing it. Poor Sylvester.

IRS Taking Every Penny From Nas’ Album Sales Until Huge Debt is Paid

From now on Nas will have to make music just for the fun of it because he won’t see a dime of his album sales until his debt is paid to the IRS. The rapper’s delinquent tax filings have caused the government to begin garnishing his wages until his tax debt—to the tune of $6 million—is paid off.

Uncle Sam filed court documents in the state of Georgia to have music publishing organizations BMI and ASCAP send royalties earned on any of Nas’ albums directly to the government rather than the rapper’s bank account. Considering people don’t buy music the way they used to, it’s going to be a long time before Nas sees another paycheck—from his albums anyway.

SMH. What is up with celebrities thinking they don’t have to pay taxes like the rest of us?
