A First Time For Everything: Actress Cicely Tyson Nominated for A Tony Award!

Who knew that returning to Broadway after a 30 year hiatus would result in a Tony Award nomination?
Such is the case for the legendary Cicely Tyson. The actress has not graced the “Great White Way” since her role as “Miss Moffat” in The Corn is Green but she is now being recognized for her work in A Trip To Bountiful, which is produced by New York Knicks’ star Tyson Chandler. Miss Tyson has been nominated for “Best Actress In A Leading Role In A Play.”
Although, she’s worked on Broadway since the 1950s, this is her first nomination in any capacity according to Black Voices. The Emmy Award winner and Academy Award nominee rounds out the nominations for The Trip to Bountiful, as it has also been nominated for “Best Revival of a Play,” “Best Set Design,” and “Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Play,” where Condola Rashad is nominated.
It is amazing that at age 88 (allegedly), Cicely Tyson still takes command of all her roles. As most of us know, she appears to be a permanent fixture in most of Tyler Perry’s “Madea” movies. It is also good to see a few people of color being recognized at the Tony Awards when we know it is often a “whitewash.”

(Fine) Father And Son Time! NY Knicks’ Tyson Chandler And His Son Do GQ
Pop stands at seven feet tall. Little man comes in somewhere around three feet. NY Knicks star Tyson Chandler and his son, Tyson II pose for an adorable feature in GQ that will melt your heart!
In the issue, Tyson talks about going from wearing cowboy boots as a kid growing up in the country, to sporting the fur coat trend on the Chicago Bulls, to his current downtown style tailored to the streets of NYC. He also proves that the all-star is quite in the know when it comes to staying fresh and sophisticated off the court:
“To me, if you’re going all black, the cut is everything,” Chandler says. “That’s what makes it sophisticated.”
Tyson and son aren’t the only supermen rocking the pages of the current GQ issue, on newsstands now. NBA’s fashion elite are also featured in the magazine’s “NBA’s New Style Wars” feature.

When I was younger and living in Chicago, all the girls used to talk about how fine Tyson Chandler was. Back then, a lot of my friends played basketball or followed the NBA, and at the time, Chandler had just started in the league, playing for a then-sloppy Chicago Bulls. Boy, has time passed! Not only is he playing for the New York Knicks now, but before settling in NYC, he went to the New Orleans Hornets, Charlotte Bobcats and the Dallas Mavericks, won a championship and also won defensive player of the year this year. And though some time has passed, he still looks good, and is keeping that body tight, as you can see from his new nude shot on the cover of ESPN The Magazine‘s “Body Issue.” Take a look at our boo over the years and let us know if you agree that he’s eye candy.
