Pretty Boy Swag: Celebrity Men Who Are More High Maintenance Than Their Women

January 4th, 2013 - By Meghan Williams

Have you ever thought that some men were prettier than their women, and if not prettier than at least more high maintenance? It might be their grooming or their mannerisms, or maybe even something you just can’t quite put your finger on, but trust me, you know the feeling.

Before you get to clicking I should probably say that there’s real no concrete evidence that any of these men are prima donnas, but based on appearances – which are sometimes telling and sometimes not – these fifteen celebs seem to fit the bill. Of course “pretty” is a matter of opinion here, but feel free to throw yours about these pretty boy floyds in the comments section below.

Prince

Prince

Prince and his girlfriend Bria Valente may look a lot alike – thanks to their surgeon I suppose, but I dare say Prince is the prettier of the two, and considering his eccentricity – probably the more high maintenance of the two as well. Prince must not only be barbered to perfection, but also made up to perfection, hair styled to perfection, and clothed to perfection. And perfection ain’t easy, or quick.

“I Got Some Indian In Me”: 9 Celebs Who Want You To Know They’re More Than Just Black

As a genealogy buff, I’m fascinated by the composite of different races within blacks of African descent. Apparently, I’m not alone. Some of us love to let others know that we are more than just black. This almost goes hand in hand with people that love to tell others that their curls aren’t as tight as the rest of ours because they claim to be mixed with something. Yeah, whatever. But there is something to be said about being proud of one’s origin. Knowing where we came from is an integral part of knowing who we are. Unfortunately, many of us don’t know our genetic makeup due to lack of historically relevant data, money (for genealogical testing), or interest in knowing our backgrounds. Maybe if more of us did, we too could be like these nine celebs that are proud (some maybe too proud at times) of their diverse lineage.

Sex Tape We’re Not Sure We Want To See: Tyson Comparing Himself To Tyrese

So rumor has it there’s a sex tape being shopped around featuring former model Tyson Beckford, and though his body might have you asking, where can I get a copy? Details about the film sound like the visual may not be as pleasurable for viewers as it was for him.

TMZ has gotten word that someone is trying to sell a 45-minute tape of Mr. Beckford pleasuring himself during a recent Internet video chat with a female model. For the sake of his relationship, that model better be his current girlfriend—you know, the one he “made”—although it wouldn’t make sense for her to sell the tape unless she’s blackmailing him. There’s also the possibility that they broke up since he’s slated to appear on a new celebrity dating show coming this summer, which actually makes her sound like a pretty likely culprit here.

But anyway, there appears to be an interesting soundtrack to this little pleasure fest, mostly Tyson giving lip service about some of the movies he’s appeared in, comments about some of his past co-stars, and best of all, the revelation of one his biggest pet peeves—being compared to Tyrese Gibson. All I have to say is if these are the things this man chooses to talk about while getting off, he’s even more full of himself than I thought.

What’s even more weird is that Tyrese decided to big up Tyson on Twitter once he heard the news. He tweeted:

“What folks don’t know is that Tyson opened the door for me to model…!!

“@TysonCBeckford lol… I’ve pulled a few of your fans who thought I was YOU..!! They were too bad to let them go!! Lol!!!!”

Am I the only one who thinks imposter smashing is lame—on top of saluting someone who doesn’t want to be compared to you? I see why people confuse these two goofballs.

Are you interested in Tyson’s home movie or are you over him?

Would You Let A Man Upgrade You?

March 27th, 2012 - By Brande Victorian

Thanks to Beyonce, we typically only think about women upgrading men these days and depending on how much you’re willing to invest in a little DIY man project, this is either well worth the effort or a big no-no.

When we talk about men upgrading women, we think of calculated moves, like golddiggers trying to trap celebrities and pro athletes. Although on the other end of the spectrum there’s the Cinderella stories of the average woman sweeping some billionaire off his feet and suddenly not having to lift a finger for the rest of her life—think Jennifer Lopez in Maid in Manhattan. But as enticing as the idea of a financial come up accompanying true love appears in the movies, Tyson Beckford’s recent comments on his regular-girl-turned-supermodel girlfriend are a quick snap back to reality.

The Evening Standard caught up with Tyson to see what the 41-year-old who’s fallen off of the supermodel radar for a while now has been up to and he said some interesting words about his girlfriend, Australian model Shanina Shaik, who has walked for some of the biggest brands in the industry from Victoria’s Secret, Stella McCartney, Vivienne Westwood, and L’Wren Scott. Ironically, as Tyson talked about trying to warn his girlfriend that the fashion industry can be “ugly, mean and shallow,” he said this about her:

“When I found her she was a regular girl. I helped place her with the right people, get her teeth cleaned, her body toned up. Everything changed and now everyone wants a piece of her.

“I hear people say, ‘You can do better than Tyson.’ I’m like, ‘Really? Really?! I created her!’?”

While I get what Tyson is trying to say about people hating on their relationship, he might want to chill on the whole “I created her” attitude. You got her teeth cleaned and hired a personal trainer, what is this MTV’s “Made?” And who tells that? If my man had to do those things for me, I certainly wouldn’t want him bragging about it to a national publication and then trying to act like I can’t go anywhere else because I would just go back to being a “regular girl” without him.

Nowadays most women, black women especially, are focused on getting their own without a man but Tyson’s comments demonstrate what’s tricky about a man completely changing a woman’s lifestyle—she starts to seem like a trophy wife/girlfriend rather than a woman who they fell in love with as they were and then helped them achieve their own goals. I can’t say he wouldn’t have dated Shanina as she was when they first met but his comments definitely make her sound like a piece of eye candy—or that her being with him is the real driving force behind their successful career.

I feel like his “I created her” statement is one of those comments that come out in a heated argument and make you say, “oh, so that’s how you really feel?” At the end of the day I don’t ever want to feel like a man has something over my head by upgrading my lifestyle and showing me the “finer” things in life, as Tyson is apparently accustomed to waking up in “Dubai one day, Paris the next.” I definitely think it’s possible for two people to come from different classes or financial backgrounds and mutually improve each other’s lives but when a man is trying to act like he has to take me from Ragedy Brande to Halle Berry, I’ll pass.

What do you think about Tyson’s comments on his girlfriend? Could you ever let a man upgrade you like he did?

Beyonce and Nicki Minaj at the 2011 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show

Our black celebrity news partner Necole Bitchie has awesome pics of the black stars who attended the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on Wednesday of this week. Madame Noire has already reported on the plan for performances by Kanye West and Nicki Minaj — but who knew African-American stars like Tyson and Maxwell would be there in full effect? While some of the fashions in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show are questionable (and some of it is cute), there is nothing like a fabulous party full of beautiful black stars to give you that daily dose of glam. Check out these choice pics of black celebs who watched the extravaganza, and a few of the gorgeous Angels in their lace finery — then head over to Necole Bitchie for more photos of the fun.

Bey’s baby bump looks very clear here — and quite cute. Would you rock these extreme bras and panties? Click below for more!

Evening Eye Candy: Tyson Beckford

"Tyson Beckford eye candy"*Drools*

Tyson Beckford has pretty much been hot since birth. He literally jumped out the womb and struck a pose. Face it: the camera loves him, the runway was made for him, and to this day, women all over (including moi) smolder for the brother even at the ripe age of 40. Is it just me, or does he not look a day over 30? But anyway, I’ve been a fan of the model since he played Toni Braxton’s steamy boo in the “Unbreak My Heart” video (loved that song), and he’s like, number 10 on my everlasting list of imaginary Hollywood husbands. If he’s not a veteran on yours, then it’s time you get re-acquainted with his spice. Enjoy!

Ok, we know there’s no such thing as a “perfect” man. The beautiful eyes may come without the gorgeous smile. And the intellect may not always match the sense of humor. But it’s hump day and we decided to have a little fun by putting together some of our favorite features from some of our favorite guys.
