While Mariah might end up being the fun parent, Nick will be running around making sure they don’t get out of line.

Cannon recently told US Weekly that when it comes to the twins, Moroccan and Monroe, he is making sure he puts his foot down.  Knowing the “terrible twos” are upon him, he jokingly said:

“I got my belt out already. It’s ready!”

The twins will turn two years old on April 30th and Nick says he is, without a doubt, the tougher parent. That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise because although Mariah is notorious for being an ultimate shade thrower toward adults, she’s always had a very soft spot when it comes to children.

Cannon also openly admitted to a double standard when it comes to his son and daughter, just like most dads.

“Oh, no, my son can date at, like, 3 if he wants, but my daughter, never.”

You’ve got to love the protective dad, right? But seriously, Nick has always comes across as the more serious parent. If you recall, when the Cannons spoke to Barbara Walters in 2011, Nick was adamant about wanting the kids to get an education while Mariah said she wouldn’t mind at all if they wanted to be entertainers.

Somehow, I see Nick shelling out a spanking or two if Roe gets beside herself or Roc wants to “buck up” to his parents.

We know mothers, particularly black ones, can get a little arts and crafts creative when it comes to naming their children but Millicent Owuor takes the prize today. I’m not mad that he 20-year-old from the village of Kogelo in Kenya named one of her sons, born yesterday, Barack but my heart goes out to his twin brother who got the short end of the stick by being named after the President’s republican challenger Mitt. I mean, you essentially just named your child a loser — or after one anyway.

According to The Standard, Owuor delivered her newborn boys at Siaya District Hospital, not far from where President Obama’s 90-year-old step-grandmother, Sarah Obama, grew up and still lives. That detail will no doubt instill pride in little Barry as he grows older and learns about the historic man he was named after. As for little Mitt Mitt all I can say is keep your head up homie. Maybe you’ll grow up to be filthy reach like your predecessor.

In one of the cutest twin moments ever, 20-year-old identical twin sisters Zaakira Mitchell and Shaakira White gave birth to children just one hour apart July 24—and one of the sisters even had twins of her own! According to WLTX.com:

Mitchell traveled from Rock Hill to accompany White to her doctor’s appointment at Palmetto Health Baptist. But she had no idea she and her sister would go into labor.

“Around three, 3:30 she came back and said ‘I’m 5 centimeters dilated.’ So Dr. Ferguson was telling her that she was going to be admited today, so that meant we were both going to have our babies on the same day,” said Mitchell. “We didn’t know, it wasn’t planned.”

About an hour later, Dr. Ferguson delivered Zaakira’s baby, Kadin Zaakai, and then Shaakira delivered twins, Landon Elijah and London Elise, by C-section. Zaakira was actually supposed to have her baby on July 26 while Shaakira’s C-section was scheduled for August 2. Mother nature obviously had other plans in mind for these twins, but they didn’t mind.

“That’s like my best friend,” Zaakira said. “So for us to share this, that was really special and it was really emotional.”

Dr. Ferguson agreed:

“The whole thing was very exciting. All of a sudden all this family who had been there for Zaakira were suddenly there for Shaakira as well,” he said.

At least this sisters will have each other to lean on as they figure out motherhood. Best of luck to the new twin mommies!

I won’t keep you in suspense long. From the mouth of the mommy-to-be herself, who recently had a chat with In Touch about her pregnancy, she told the magazine:

“I’m having a baby boy! We’re so thrilled.”

This news makes the Mowry offspring tally 2-0 boys. On the 28th of this month, Tia’s son Cree will turn 1 years old and Tamera says it’s been helpful having her nephew around to help prepare her for her own son, particularly when it comes to changing diapers. She told the mag:

“I’ve been practicing on him!”

By fall, Tamera’s little blue bundle will be here. The expecting newlywed just hit the five-month mark of her pregnancy, but she’s already begun decorating the nursery. It should come as no surprise that the design will be fit for a little man.

“It’s going to have a sports theme,” she revealed.

In other Sister Sister twin news, the second season of Tia and Tamera’s reality show on the Style network also premiered Monday, June 11 so there may be some pre/early pregnancy behind-the-scenes goodness to catch there.

Christine Bolden, a 26 year old woman from Michigan, was walking with her boyfriend and 3 year old son on March 6, when she suddenly felt a pain in her head. Shortly afterward, she collapsed. Doctors later said that she’d suffered from two brain aneurysms and was subsequently declared brain dead.

But Christine’s story is a bit different, you see she was 5 months pregnant with twins at the time of her aneurysms. And though she was brain dead, her body was still safe enough to house her twin boys, until recently. Her blood pressure began to rise and at just 25 weeks, they had to be delivered, via c-section.

Her grandmother told doctors not to numb her for the procedure, in the hopes that she might wake up once she felt the pain. But Christine didn’t wake up and after the twins were delivered, her family made the decision to remove her from life support.

The twins, Nicholas and Alexander both weigh under two pounds and are under six inches long.

Christine’s aunt, Danielle Bolden,  told Michigan’s 24 Hour News 8 that ”God, he could have [taken] her and the boys. But he left the boys. That’s a miracle.”

Right now the twins are too fragile to have visitors but their family members can’t wait to see them.

Vance Terrell, Christine’s brother told spoke to mlive.com saying, “I can’t wait to be able to touch them and pick them up and tell them all about their mother and give them so much love. They’re so precious.”

Why are we so enthralled by twins? Well, it’s partially due to the fact that twins have been a rarity, if we’re not counting all the 10 and under twin children who were produced with the help of fertility treatments. But I digress. Twins are just fun. And in the spirit of documenting celebrity family ties, we take a look at some of the Black twins out there.

The Haqq sisters are celebrities by association of reality stars The Kardashians. You may know Malika from her regular appearances on Khloe & Lamar as the best friend of  Khloe and former flame of brother Robert Kardashian. Sister Khadijah is a busy mom, who is married to NFL player Bobby McCray. A lesser known fact is that these two work as actresses and have appeared in small acting parts since their teen years.

Twins used to be a cute, rare sighting but now 1 in ever 30 babies born in the U.S. is a twin, according to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report. In 1980, that number was 1 in 53.

The increase isn’t exactly uniform. On average, black women have more twins, but now white women have caught up. Over the last three decades, the rates of twins have doubled for white women, rose by half for black mothers, and by about a third for Hispanic women.

So why the increase? One explanation is more women are waiting til their 30s to have babies. For some unknown reason, mothers in their 30s are more likely to have twins than younger or older women, an authors of the report have attributed as much as a third of the increase in twins to this fact.

A more obvious reason is the increased use of fertility drugs and treatments. When you couple that with the older age of most new mothers, the twin increase makes sense. This is also why the rate of twins among white women has caught up to that of black mothers.

While some women may view having twins as a blessing, experts say the trend is worrisome, as multiple births are dangerous to mothers and their babies. Children are often smaller, weaker, and require more care, plus the mother is usually already over the age of 40.

They say anything worth having takes work. And that’s exactly what Mariah Carey had to put in to give birth to her beautiful twins, Moroccan and Monroe. (Who are now six months old.) During her pregnancy the diva suffered from gestational diabetes, had to be put on bed rest and preclampsia in the final weeks of her pregnancy. WHOA! Say it ‘aint so!

It just might be the end for “Jenny from the Block” and her crooner-mate Marc Anthony after seven years of marriage and two beautiful children, twins Max and Emme.

According to her publicist, who sent the news to a number of news outlets with the quickness, the two are amicably separating. Their rep allegedly contacted Us Weekly directly and sent the following statement representing the couple:

“We have decided to end our marriage. This was a very difficult decision. We have come to amicable conclusion on all matters,” they said in a statement. “It is a painful time for all involved, and we appreciate the respect of our privacy at this time.”

Now this ‘aint no Will and Jada to us, but I can’t lie. We’re pretty surprised at this news. Plus, we’ve got love for Jennifer. While they always seemed so happy on the outside, as usual, what’s going on at home is a whooooole other story.

It’s no surprise that Nick and Mariah’s lives will change drastically once their two new additions come into the world. But the couple won’t be caught completely unprepared. They’ve already finished designing the nurseries in their Bel Air and New York City homes.

The couple told “Life & Style” magazine that they spent $100,000 on the nursery designs.
