(All Things Digital) –The Internet is poised to overtake newspapers as the second-largest U.S. advertising medium by revenue behind television, according to PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Global Entertainment and Media Outlook for 2010 to 2014. The online ad business, excluding mobile ads, is set to expand to $34.4 billion in 2014 from $24.2 billion in 2009, according to the report, which PwC plans to release Tuesday.

As much as the networks still aren’t sold on the core business proposition of anytime/anywhere distribution, there are signs they’re becoming more tolerant of third-party players. Speaking on Wednesday morning’s opening session at The Cable Show in Los Angeles, CBS Corp president and CEO Les Moovnes said there is “a mutual respect” between tech and content, adding that the broadcaster is willing to experiment with non-traditional distribution platforms “if the economic model fits what we do.”
