That’s So Sweet! Jamie Foxx Working On Scripted Series Based On Relationship With His Daughter

Everybody knows how much Jamie Foxx loves his daughter Corrine, especially since she’s been his date for every single award show in recent memory. And we’re all pretty sure the 18-year-old is thoroughly embarrassed by her daddy’s crazy antics every single time they step out together —  like when he hit on Kelly Rowland at the Oscars. Well, in a genius move, Jamie Foxx and TNT have decided to turn the pair’s father-daughter relationship into a new scripted series for the network.

Shadow and Act reported the news, saying the new show will be titled “Dad, Stop Embarrassing Me,” and will follow this premise:

Every teenager is embarrassed by his/her parents. But what if your dad decided to descend upon your life in every way? Inspired by Jamie Foxx’s relationship with his 18-year-old daughter, this comedy explores the dynamic between a parent and a child and all the embarrassment that comes with it.

S&A says Jamie Foxx will executive produce and handle scripting along with a couple other people, which means he’ll likely be completely off-screen rather than in front of it as we usually see. And even though the show is only based on Jamie’s relationship with his daughter, knowing that they’re the inspiration for the show I can’t help but wonder who could possibly pull off his part. Any thoughts?

Should We Call It A Comeback? Vivica Possibly Starring in New Bill Bellamy Sitcom

A new sitcom reportedly starring Bill Bellamy and Vivica A. Fox could make for a big comeback for both stars who’ve been off the A-list radar for a little while now.

Some time ago there was word that Byron Allen’s company, Entertainment Studios, was developing a sitcom for comedian and actor Bill Bellamy to star in alongside fellow comedian Jon Lovitz. According to Humormillmag.com, the show is supposed to air on either TBS or TNT and word is Vivica A. Fox was just offered a starring roll.

The show will be about Bellamy’s character, a potential Hollywood star who ends up in trouble with the law, and is court ordered to do community service which lands him in South Central LA. His character ends up loving the kids that he is supposed to mentor and then he finds himself not wanting to go back to Hollywood. Lovitz will play his agent who is constantly trying to lure him back to the actor’s city. I assume Vivica will be his love interest but her part hasn’t been explicitly stated just yet.

Bill Bellamy is also in talks with CBS for a self-titled show that would air in 2013 so he may soon find his acting card full again. Vivica is also expected to star in three new films, “Queen City,” “Mission Park,” and “Caught On Tape.” Yay for black actors working.

What do you think about Vivica and Bill in this sitcom together?

Regina King Talks Being a Woman of Substance On and Off Screen

It’s been a little while since we’ve seen Regina King on the big screen, but she’s been far from off the Hollywood radar. For the past three seasons she’s had a starring role on the TNT drama “Southland,” and after 30 years of acting, she said she still can’t believe she’s one of few black actresses to have a lead role in an hour-long drama.

“I’m just really thankful to have the chance to portray a character you don’t see every day,’’ Regina told the Daily Beast. “I have women come up to me all the time and say that exact thing to me. They say they love my character and how she is a real woman with a real career that they believe. People love to see themselves on screen in a way that makes sense and seems on point.”

From her role as Brenda on “227,” to Ice Cube’s girl on “Boyz N’ the Hood,” to the loving wife in Jerry McGuire,” and one of Ray Charles’s mistresses, no two roles have been the same for Regina, and that’s how she likes it.

“I’ve tried to be flexible in my career by doing a little bit of everything and that’s worked for me. It’s incredibly hard out there for women of color. That’s why I do love being a woman of substance on “Southland.” Someone who isn’t a caricature and isn’t a stereotype. But remember she wasn’t written as a black character and that makes a big difference in how she can be portrayed.”

Regina makes an effort to be a woman of substance off camera as well, keeping her personal life, particularly her relationship with Malcolm Jamal Warner, under wraps.

“I have to keep something for me and that has to be my personal relationships. Neither one of us is out there talking about it and we won’t be. It’s important to keep what we have between us. I respect others who do it differently, but that’s just not for me.”

And that’s why we love her. Do you watch Southland? What’s your favorite Regina King character?

(The Grio) — The calls came as soon as Shaquille O’Neal decided to retire, all wanting to hire one of theNBA’s greatest entertainers.  TNT’s “Inside the NBA” studio show had been O’Neal’s favorite as a player, so the choice was easy.  Get ready for the Big Analyzer, Big Commentator, or whatever other nickname he takes in the next phase of his career.  O’Neal agreed Thursday to a multiyear deal with Turner Sports to become an analyst on itsNBA coverage, where he will fold his 7-foot-1 frame into the fourth chair on the TNT set alongside Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and Ernie Johnson.
