The Rock On Witnessing Childbirth: “It’ll Give You A Whole New Respect For The Strength And Beauty Of A Woman”
Between Iman Shumpert and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, we are overjoyed at proud papa season.
Last Wednesday, The Rock and his girlfriend, Lauren Hashian, welcomed a baby girl into the world, whom we now know is named Jasmine. While the little one is the 43-year-old actor’s second child — he has a 14-year-old daughter with his ex-wife — it’s clear witnessing the miracle of childbirth for a second time has turned the brolic star into a big pile of mush. Late Sunday night, The Rock posted this message on Instagram about being a dad to a little girl again:
Christmas came early! Within minutes of being born she was laying on daddy’s chest. And being a grateful man takes on a whole new meaning… Thank you guys so much for the awesome congratulatory wishes and love you’ve been sending @laurenhashianofficial and myself. We’re extremely grateful. Kinda crazy but in this cool and powerful skin to skin bonding moment with my newborn baby Jasmine, I had just one wish I asked the universe… Give me the strength to be a better man today than I was yesterday. If I can accomplish that, then I’d have a good shot at being a great father. To all you young men out there who will be fathers one day, the goal of “being better” will never steer you wrong. Trust me I’ve been down this road. Something else that’ll never steer you wrong is “walking thru the fire” with your baby’s mama. I was right there during labor, helping her breathe, every highly intense contraction, every second of pain, right there watching the actual birth, cutting the cord and wiping the tears. Incredible. *(Now don’t get me wrong boys, it wasn’t like I was at the end of the table, squatting like a catcher waiting for the fastball to come down the pike..😂 but as men, it’s a miracle we should witness because it’ll give you a whole new respect for the strength and beauty of a woman). Again, THANK YOU guys so much for all the love during this blessed time. I always say I’m a lucky dude because I’ve got the greatest fans in the world – and it’s true. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and your families from ours. #ChristmasCameEarlyToSayHello #WhileSleepOfficiallySaysGoodbye #2xProudPapaSilverback #SheCanDateWhenShes40 💪🏾👊🏾💯
You can say that again Dwayne. Congrats to The Rock And Lauren on their beautiful baby girl!

Dwayne ‘The Rock” Johnson is undeniably one of Hollywood’s talented and hottest hunks.
But for those that don’t know too much about Johnson’s backstory, he faced lots of losses before striking gold and becoming an action movie star.
The 43-year-old is the next up to tackle Oprah’s awe-inspiring Master Class, a series where celebrities share their stories of success ranging from topics like pivotal moments that have shaped their lives and even the greatest lessons they’ve learned during their journey.
In a preview of the upcoming episode, Johnson gets real about his past demons, revealing his struggles with depression that stemmed from being passed on by the NFL after a successful four-year football career at the University Miami that was stumped by an injury.
A visibly teary-eyed Johnson (seen in the preview) also talks about his transition from football player to wrestler to actor, family life and more during his Master Class session.
While the show has yet to air, just from the preview I have to commend Johnson. Depression, especially when it comes to males, is very much under-reported. It’s almost as if when men express their feelings it’s seen as a sign of weakness. However, even the toughest of them all a.k.a. “The Rock” has hit rock bottom and isn’t scared to share his battles. That’s the best gift of all I think he could ever give his fans: motivation.
“I found that with depression one of the most important things you could realize is that you’re not alone. You’re not the first to go through it,” he says. “I wish I had someone at that time who could just pull me aside and [say], ‘Hey, it’s going to be okay.’”
Watch Oprah’s Master Class with Dwayne Johnson on Sunday at 8/7c.

This was a great weekend for actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Not only did his new action flick San Andreas top the box office, it was also his biggest box office take as the lead actor.
According to Warner Bros., the film took in $53.2 million for its opening weekend at 3,777 locations — and 51 percent of the ticket buyers were women. It was the star himself that was the major draw for all moviegoers. “A majority of those shelling out for San Andreas showed up for The Rock at 38 percent, while 34 percent came out because they adore disaster films,” reports Deadline.
Warner Bros. distribution chief Dan Fellman said, “Dwayne Johnson is a major movie star and he’s really coming into his own at the moment and we just happen to have him at the right time. San Andreas is his biggest opening as a solo star, and the film is from original material.”
The box office take for Friday for San Andreas beat the first days and weekends of previous Rock hit films, The Scorpion King ($12.6M Friday/$36.1M FSS), Hercules ($11.05M/$29.8M FSS), and G.I. Joe Retaliation ($15.3M Friday/$40.5M FSS).
Here’s how the weekend at the movies ended up:
—San Andreas (WB), 3,777 theaters, weekend total: $53.2M / Wk 1

When he’s not ducking threats from Breezy for taking selfies with Karrueche, model turned Chocolate City actor Tyson Beckford is doing a residency for Chippendales in Las Vegas. And we support that 100%. Hence, we’ve come up with a list of 15 celeb men who need to ditch shirts forever and bless that Chippendales stage.
Move over Kim Kardashian. When it comes to selfies, it seems Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has you beat. And he did it all in one day–in three minutes to be exact.
The Rock recently set a world record for the most selfies taken in 3 minutes. He did so at his “San Andreas” movie premiere in London on May 22. And the record is official.
We just set a NEW GUINNESS WORLD RECORD for most self portraits (selfies) taken in record time (yup, a selfie world record exists and your arm gets a helluva workout). WORLD PREMIERE of SAN ANDREAS and rewriting the record books all in one night. #MicDropBoom #NewSelfieKing #LONDON #SanAndreasWorldTour MAY 29th.
Don’t go thinking this was a spontaneous event. Johnson was all prepared for it and planned out his strategy. In fact, Johnson was closely monitored throughout the process by Guinness World Records adjudicator Mark McKinley, who ensured that Johnson’s full face and neck were visible in each pic and that all of the images were in focus, reports The New York Daily News.
So there you have it–The Rock is king of selfies.
Hollywood is also hoping he’s the kind of the box office. This Memorial Day weekend was a sluggish one. The four-day weekend receipts were down 15 percent from last year. George Clooney’s Tomorrowland topped the rankings, but with $41.7 million, it was a soft debut that has got some people worried. However, there are summer popcorn movies — San Andreas, Magic Mike XXL and Jurassic World among them — still to come.
Are you surprised? You must have forgotten that “The Rock” graced the silver screen with two kick-butt films: Fast & Furious 6 and G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Along with two other small movies, Dwayne Johnson drew in $1.3 billion at the box office, Forbes reports.
You would think Robert Downey, Jr. would have topped the list. After all, Iron 3 is this year’s highest grossing film. But that was also Downey’s only movie in 2013. Because of Johnson worked harder this year by starring in three additional films, “The Rock” wrestled him out of the No.1 spot.
Fast & Furious 6 alone pulled in $789 million in the global box office. The widely-popular movie franchise also helped Johnson’s co-stars — Vin Diesel and the late Paul Walker — land a spot on Forbes‘ list in fourth and sixth place, respectively.
G.I. Joe: Retaliation reeled in $376 billion worldwide. Pain & Gain, alongside Mark Wahlberg, is Johnson’s third highest-grossing film this year with an $86 million box office draw.
Snitch, Johnson’s crime drama film, didn’t really appeal to audiences as it only nabbed $58 million at the box office. As for Empire State, an action film starring Liam Hemsworth — Miley Cyrus’ former lover — the movie went straight to DVD and Blu-Ray in September.
Along with scoring box office gold for riding around in fast cars, Diesel drew in $887 million for his work in Riddick, a sci-fi film.
After “The Rock” stands, of course, Robert Downey, Jr. in second place. Steve Carell, best known for his TV antics on The Office, brought home some big numbers with Despicable Me 2, The Way Way Back, and The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. The only woman on the list, Sandra Bullock, rounds out the top five with Gravity and The Heat.
When you stop and think about it, most of us, if not all of us living and breathing right now, have a lot to be thankful for. Be thankful for your family, your friends, your job, your health, the roof over your head, and more. And if that’s not enough, you’re about to be very thankful for Instagram and the selfie, because we’re thankful for fine celebrity men who don’t have a problem sharing what they’re working with, with their fans using both of those things. Here are some hard and fine bodies we’re thankful to have seen this year thanks to social media!
We see Essence trying to switch the style up! They’re breaking out the sexiest men for their August issue and we are NOT mad especially when they have men as fine as The Rock on the cover. We already loved The Rock (aka Dewayne) but his quote about how he takes care of a woman makes us absolutely swoon.
“…When I say I’m going to take care of a woman, I don’t just mean physically or sexually or romantically. I’m going to take care of her emotionally and spiritually. I’m going to take care of her in all ways. I take a lot of pride in that today”
For the upcoming issue nearly 4,000 Essence readers voted on who they thought the finest men were. So be sure to grab a copy and see if your favorite cuties made the cut!
I’m sure I’m not the only person who has no idea what the movie Pain and Gain is about starring Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and Anthony Mackie, but has an outrageous urge to run to the movie theater to see it the minute it comes out this week. Why? Because of The Rock of course. Since he signed on for this movie, that man has gotten bigger in muscle mass, grown a very alluring mustache and beard combination and is nice and tan all of a sudden, and I’m not sure about you, but it’s doing something for me. So much so that I felt the need to do another Evening Eye Candy slideshow for the brotha, who was one of the first pieces of candy we showed off back in 2011. And if this slideshow isn’t enough for you, I’d encourage you to do like me (his new stan) and become a follower of his new Instagram page, @therock. You won’t be disappointed!
