Style To Steal Or Girl, Stop–Special Edition: Who Was Fashionable And Who Was Failing At The Golden Globes?

While some of you were probably catching up on all the season premieres of your favorite cable shows last night, some of us were watching The Golden Globe Awards to find out who was going to win what, who was going to say what, and of course, who was wearing what! Pastel colors were huge, going sheer was the the thing to do, whether you were showing off tatas, or letting some skin peek through embroidered collars and colorful gowns. The looks were the talk of the town, aside from the awards, and we’ve pulled a few looks from the litter that definitely had us talking. Would you steal ‘em or stop ‘em? Let’s take a look and see…
Style To Steal Or Girl, Stop: Ciara, June Ambrose, Solange & More!

WENN
Stylist and stylista June Ambrose stepped out for the Bergdorf Goodman 111th anniversary event in NYC rocking a very interesting look. She rocked a halter dress with a short skirt and a long skirt on the outside. Talk about details though! The cream top was covered by a sheer black overlay and a thick feather and ribbon combination tied around the neckline. The short skirt underneath has a lace bottom, and the large skirt on top is a sheer one with a large feather shaped like a flower, and small feathers going down the hip to the floor. She carried a sleek black clutch, threw on silver strappy heels and put her hair up like the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland–minus the hat.
Love this lady and her style most of the time, but this one–not so much. There’s just too much going on all over, from the hair to the skirt, and she’s too fashionable for that. Sorry, dear, but I’m going to have to ask you to stop.

Style To Steal Or Girl, Stop: Rihanna, Denise Vasi And Other Stylish Ladies!

Rihanna
If you didn’t know by now, Ri RI likes to take chances with her ensembles, and by all means, this one is a risky one. Rihanna showed up at opening of the 40/40 Club at the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn in this silk top and bottom. She accessorized with tan heels, a chunky gold necklace and a bright red lip to match the carpet. It definitely looks very pajama-ish for a club opening, but Rihanna has a very fun and funky style.
But too bad i’m not Ri Ri. I like that she tried this look, but I need some contrast. Maybe a different top, possibly a different bottom if you keep the top, but not both together. Stop. But if she was wondering, I still like that hair!

Style To Steal, Or Girl, Stop: Azealia Banks, Selita Ebanks, Solange Knowles & More!
Hey fashionistas! Looking for some style inspiration? Or better yet, looking to skewer the style choices of some of the biggest names in Hollywood (or black Hollywood at least)? Why, you’ve come to the right place m’dears. Let’s take a look at who was killing it on the red carpet and for Fashion Week, and who could have done a lot better, and needed to be stopped.

Somebody loves leather! Actress Tika Sumpter arrived at the Urbanworld Film Festival for a screening of “Being Mary Jane” in NYC in an all black (and gray) ensemble and a bright red pout. She wore black leather (or pleather) bottoms with a sleeveless peplum leather top, and accessorized with pointed toe suede booties and a gray and brown newsboy cap. Don’t forget about that black bag with its chain link detail, and I’m digging the bone-straight hair. All in all, I would have mixed up the materials and probably not done leather on leather, and instead maybe tried some fly printed pants to get some extra color in there. She doesn’t look bad, but I was definitely looking for a bit more excitement (we couldn’t even get a bright bag?). I would pass on an ensemble like this.

Style to Steal or Girl, Stop: Serena Williams, Keke Palmer, Eva Longoria & More!
The fashionistas were out this week! And while some tried for bold colors, others toned it down and accessorized with funky accessories and bright red lips. Let’s take a look through and figure out whose look was worth stealing and trying for ourselves and whose should have been stopped before they stepped out of the house.

Tennis ace Serena Williams stepped out to the “Late Show with David Letterman” in NYC looking like a chic stop light. Homegirl wore this Victoria Beckham red dress with embellished Louboutin pumps as she waved to fans and paparazzi. The dress was accented with black piping around the waist and an exposed black zipper on the back. Williams wore big curly hair, light jewelry and light makeup and if you asked me, she looked fabulous. The dress fit nicely, the hair was big and bold, the shoes were flashy but fun and the lip gloss was poppin’. That’s all a good thing. Steal!

The fashionistas were out and about this week in a variety of lush colors and interesting fabrics. Per the usual, we’re watching the fashion trends going on, but this time around, we’re checking them out from Cali, as well as London to see whose looks we would steal and who we would like to tell to stop. You down? Let’s begin.

The very fabulous actress, Kerry Washington, stepped out for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association luncheon in Beverly Hills yesterday, and for the occasion she went frilly and flirty. She wore this pink and red Christian Dior dress with its fluted skirt and pleated details, with a pair of nude pointed-toe pumps. Her jewelry was pretty simple for the occasion, opting for a small black watch, a small blue ring and small diamond hoop earrings. Her hair was lightly curled and luscious, and she sported a dark pink lip. I absolutely adore this dress and the nude shoes are a perfect and safe pick. The Dior dress is cute and fierce enough to make it through day and night events. Steal!

Style to Steal, or Girl, Stop: E-V-E, Solange, Zoe Saldana & More
Another week, another opportunity to take a look at the smart or silly fashion choices of our favorite sistas. Folks were in full summer mode with all kinds of skin showing, so let’s take a look and figure out what were hits and what were misses.

Looking oh-so-funky at The Teen Choice Awards on Sunday, actress Zoe Saldana wore this eclectic Jonathan Saunders fit on the pink (?) carpet. The green, brown and light blue ensemble was a two-fer, with a puffy skirt and a cropped tank. Saldana paired some satin bow-adorned Louboutin stilettos with the look, as well as some simple hoop earrings. She pulled her hair up and kept her makeup light. I don’t think I would have thought to pair these Louboutins with a skirt and short set like this, but for some reason, I love it! It’s a mature yet playful look all at once. Steal!

Style to Steal or Girl, Stop: Beverly Johnson, Teyana Taylor & More

Dressed to the nines for the New York premiere of The Dark Knight Rises, Zoe Kravitz was looking very dark herself in this alluring black dress. With its sheer panels and ruched material, the dress covered her lady bits and stomach in a peek-a-boo manner, while the bottom of the dress showcased a black skirt that reached over the knee. On her feet were strapped heels with a sheer toe and strap over the foot, and in her hand was a small black leather clutch. This dress brought Kravitz a great opportunity to show off her new haircut (which I don’t think I’m feeling), but the dress itself is a no-no. It could have been a winner, but in certain places, the dress comes off looking cheap. The shoes are fly, the bag is cute, and she’s in great shape, but no thanks. Stop.

Style to Steal or Girl, Stop: FLOTUS, Zoe Kravitz, Evelyn Lozada and More From the Week
As Donell Jones would say, “Girl, you know what’s up!” It’s time to go through some of the most interesting looks from our favorite ladies this week, and decide whether or not these women have styles we want for ourselves, or if they need to stop it and go back to the drawing board. Let us begin!

Amber Rose move over! Evelyn Lozada is trying to steal your bodycon crown this year. For last week’s Essence Music Fest in the NO, the reality personality showed up and showed out in this pacific blue, chartreuse and gray long sleeved dress. She paired it with light green snakeskin pumps, a sandy brown clutch, and don’t forget about that wedding ring! For Essence Fest, I think this outfit is fun, flirty, and appropriate. And though I’m not a huge fan of the Ms. Thang, I think her ensemble and hair look good. Steal.

Style to Steal or BOY, Stop: NBA Finals Press Conference Edition; Dwyane Wade, Kevin Durant & More!
I don’t know if anybody else has paid attention to this, but have you noticed how hard NBA players try to look like something out of the pages of GQ these days? Gone are the years when Commissioner Stern had to snap on the players (namely Allen Iverson) to ensure they wouldn’t come to the games looking like they just stepped off of a street corner. Now players are trying their hands at all the big trends, trying to remind everybody through their Gucci Shoes and Prada shirts that yes, they do have money, and now they want to start dressing like it. With that, we collected images of our four favorite players from the big Finals bout between the Heat and the Thunder (Game 2 to be specific) to see which of these cute brothas made a fly style move, and which ones need to stop it.

Look at Kevin Durant! Looking like a tall glass of water… *winks* Before the game, Durant arrived at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City wearing this tan suit with his fitted pants, orange tie with gold tie bar, plaid oxford shirt and navy blue pocket square. To help accessorize, the 6’9″ small forward wore laid back dark brown Chuck Taylors, a brown belt, and some Ray Ban-eque eyeglasses. I’m guessing the new trend for men is to dress down nice suits with sneakers, and while I’m not a huge fan of that, Durant looks nice. He’s just so freaking tall…And those arms…yikes!

Bron Bron also made a fashionable entrance into the arena last night, but went for a more laid back yet still dressy outfit. He wore this chic sky blue and heather blue sweater with its rugby white collar with a pinpoint oxford blue shirt and VERY fitted white pants. To accessorize, he went for blue and white suede shoes, a keychain on his belt loop, and a dark blue baller band to bring the look together. Another snazzy look for this guy, if I only I could stand him…(just kidding!)
