Another Day, Another Dollar Owed in Child Support: Stevie J. Hasn’t Paid Child Support in Over 16 Years
Stevie J. may want to get that Joseline album out so he can get current on his child support. Producer Steven Jordan better known as “Stevie J.” of Love and Hip Hop fame is risking a warrant for his arrest after failing to make an appearance in New York State Family Court on February 25th. The hearing is a result of a subpoena served by Project Child Support acting on behalf of Carol Antoinette Bennett, the mother of two of Jordan’s children.
“Steebie” allegedly owes over $1 million in child support he has not paid Benett in 16 years.
Project Child Support obtained the rights to subpoena all third parties meaning that they can go after all third parties to obtain information regarding Jordan’s finances including all businesses and contracts through which he maintains income. Kai D. Patterson, the founder of Project Child Support explains exactly how that works:
“Each time Mr. Jordan fails to appear, he enables Project Child Support to request what we need to eventually seize his assets to pay the arrears and fees if he is unwilling to do so, without his opposition. Now that we can issue subpoenas through a court order, we will aggressively begin to issue subpoenas prior to our next scheduled court date.”
We wonder if this means protégé Joseline will take a hit?
A new court date has been set for April 23rd.
We said it once and we’ll say it again: Who these rappers want to sleep with is their business, but that doesn’t mean they have to procreate and make kids all crazy that they can’t or won’t pay for. Some of these women should also think about getting official agreements from gate and not just allowing these men to contribute randomly when the money is good. Maybe Stevie J. can ask Mimi for a loan.
In case you’ve been wondering what Stevie J and Benzino have been up to during the “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta” off-season, you’ll be pleased to know that they’ve been putting their business and entrepreneurial skills to the test. According to Hip Hop Weekly, the reality stars and longtime friends have partnered to open up a new venue in Atlanta, Sleazy & Zino Bistro & Bar.
“It is an upscale facility with a theme-restaurant style approach, where the food and drink menus all tie into characters and other elements associated with the TV show,” the weekly describes the restaurant.
Apparently we’re going to get learn all about the bistro, as it’s reportedly going to play an intricate role in “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta” season three.
“Sleazy & Zino Bistro and Bar is one of the featured locations in the storyline of the 3rd season of the VH1 smash hit TV series, “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta,” which is currently in production. The new season’s premiere episode airs on April 21, 2014.”
The fellas celebrated their grand opening on New Year’s Eve and judging by the photos, it looks like everyone had a good time.
Check photos of the venue on the next page.
Everybody talks about what a bad look reality TV is for black women, but let’s not act like these characters do black men any favors. Here’s are list of the 13 most trifln’ men on reality TV — from worst to least worst, and in that order. Let us know if you agree with our picks.
1. Stevie J
Stevie J needs no introduction. We’re all familiar with his antics and how he manages to get away with the unbelievable. Stevie never answers questions and Joseline and Mimi still love him all the same. Stevie J invented the trifling reality TV manbook and for that he deserves the number one spot.
From The Grio
To take inspiration from Beyoncé‘s hit song, “If I Were a Boy” — if I were a man, I would be spitting mad about how my black maleness is being presented on the Love & Hip Hop franchises.
Seriously, week after week, and over the span of three years, six seasons and two series (with plans of expanding the franchise by two more series), we have watched black men routinely embarrass and flat out dishonor themselves by engaging in some the worse representation of black manhood to be witnessed on television.
And yet it is black men who have been the least likely to stand up and speak out against these unflattering caricatures of their collective image.
The proof speaks for itself
Think I’m exaggerating? Well, let’s take inventory of the “men” who have thus far graced the sleazy showcases of both the Love & Hip Hop New York City and Atlanta franchises. Here are their main stats:
- Peter Gunz: Living with the mother of his two children for over 13 year; has a history of infidelity; keeps his marriage a secret while continuing a live-in relationship with the mother of his kids.
- Lil Scrappy: A self-proclaimed mamma’s boy, with a long criminal rap sheet; did a stint in rehab for marijuana addiction in order to avoid jail time for failing to pass a drug test while out on probation; a womanizer, who regularly cheated on his fiance and mother of his son; had on-air violent fight with fellow Love & Hip Hop Atlanta cast member Stevie J.
- Stevie J: Nicknamed “Sleaze-O” for his inability to stop his womanizing and scheming on women; cheated on his long term girlfriend and mother of his daughter with an exotic dancer, whom he ended up getting pregnant and then goading into an abortion; once used money given to him by his fiance to buy the silence of his baby’s mother; proposed to both his fiance and mother of his children at the same time, which resulted in a huge fight.
- Consequence: Believes that “white is right,” yet even with his white woman has controlling issues to the point that he doesn’t allow his Christian white baby’s mom to attend family function of of respect to his own personal Islamic beliefs; is tight-fisted with money, but doesn’t want his partner to work; is notorious for having several on-air violent fights with fellow Love & Hip Hop NY cast member Joe Budden.
- Joe Budden: A womanizer; was accused of domestic abuse by two of his former cast members, including current girlfriend and co-star Tahiry; a drug addict; was involved in several physical altercations including with fellow cast member Consequence.

‘He Has Not Made A Voluntary Payment In Years:’ Stevie J’s Baby Mama Speaks On $1 Million Child Support Lawsuit
A couple of weeks ago we discussed Love & Hip Hop Atlanta star Stevie J’s festering child support situation. The mother of his 14 and 16-year-old children, Carol Bennett, is seeking to go after his wages, claiming that he owes over $1 million is back child support. A few days after our initial report, we told you about a leaked voicemail message, where Stevie can be heard begging Carol not to air out his dirty laundry during her scheduled press conference.
“What’s going on, uh I see all this press it’s going crazy and then I see something ’bout a press conference on October 31. I would ask you not to do a press conference…so let’s try to figure out what we doing, what’s goin’ on aight?”
Apparently Carol wasn’t moved by her ex-lover’s plea, because according to the folks over at the Tom Joyner Show, she went through with her press conference anyway.
“This has been an ongoing situation. We’ve actually been to court twice. The thing is I haven’t been the one pushing to go to court,” Carol told The Urban Daily . “He’s tried to go to court to not pay anything and has been denied twice. So basically, I’ve just been feeling that the system has been failing me and there’s not much I can do,” she continued.
She adds that her teenage children are college bound and she’s in need of financial assistance.
“My kids are in high school. My daughter just started high school so we’re preparing for college. It’s time for saving. We have to make sure that they’re not just prepared academically. We have to make sure they’re prepared financially as well. We had an agreement in the child support order that he would provide insurance. But nothing [has] been covered by Stevie for the last twelve or thirteen years.”
As for how she even wound up with a guy like Stevie, Carol says that he was nothing like what he is today.
“When we first met he was a good guy. We had a lot in common. We were both seriously connected in the business. He comes from a nice, big family. I don’t come from a big family, but we bonded over our love for family. He had a daughter and was very good with children. We were engaged for about two and a half years. We had known each other quite a while before then because I worked with Uptown Records and Motown Records. He was working with Jodeci at the time and he used to always tell me, ‘You’re gonna be my wife.’ I told him, ‘No. No. No. I won’t mess with any artists!’ He said, ‘Well, I’m not an artist.’ So that’s how the whole thing kinda started. Then we had my son. Then we had my daughter and in between that he got a publishing deal.”
Carol also addressed critics who believe that she’s only going after Stevie because he’s on television.
“That’s the misconception. My kids are 14 and 16. He has not made a voluntary payment in years. There’s a court order in place to pay x amount per month. If you don’t pay that, even if you can come close, it technically didn’t occur. He’s missed 168 payments. The reason why, this (is) my own speculation, because he’s been able to get away with it, why not keep doing it? Where’s the enforcement at? Okay, he doesn’t have a passport. He still can live, he’s just not going out of the country. It’s just being negligent and not taking on responsibility for your kids, but he doesn’t mind doing it for any other women.”
What do you think of Carol coming forward?

Steven Jordan, aka Stevie J., has got to get his stuff together. Now. We already know that his business has been thrown in the street for unpaid child support and now, he’s begging his kids’ mother to not air him out any further.
According to RadarOnline, Carol Bennett’s rep told them that Stevie J called Bennett saying they needed to just work everything out…without the public having to know:
”What’s going on, uh I see all this press it’s going crazy and then I see something ’bout a press conference on October 31. I would ask you not to do a press conference…so let’s try to figure out what we doing, what’s goin’ on aight?”
Oh yes, you read that right: Bennett held a press conference last Thursday to discuss the situation. Now, we don’t know who was at said conference – maybe some Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta cameras – but Bennett made a statement saying that her intent was not to have Stevie incarcerated but rather, “to find a resolution and to co-parent with Stevie J. and that means emotionally and financially so that our children can receive the support that they deserve.”
So while Stevie makes a fool of himself on reality television, Bennett essentially adds fuel to the fire by holding a press conference about unpaid child support.
No word from Bennett’s rep, Sibrena Stowe de Fernandez, on whether or not they’ve decided to work this out with Stevie J in public (although she did receive his message before her own version of the dog and pony show).
With parents like these, one can only wonder if the children are more mature.
We told you back in 2012 that the mother of Stevie J’s first two children came after him for back child support when he started working on Love and Hip Hop Atlanta. More than a year later and after two dramatic seasons on LHHATL, it seems that the same woman, former music industry executive Carol Bennett, is still waiting on the money Stevie J (aka, Steve Jordan) owes. But she’s not trying to sit around any longer. According to AllHipHop.com, Bennett’s reps say that the reality star and music maker reportedly owes more than $1.2 million in unpaid child support, and that they’re going after his wages.
According to court papers obtained by AllHipHop.com from the New York City Office of Child Support Enforcement, 168 payments are due. Bennett even went as far as to seek help from special organizations who help people obtain child support from individuals who are purposely bailing out on their duties, including Bounty Alert and the Custodial Support Foundation. In a statement to AllHipHop, Tiffany Stewart Esq., President of the CSF said, “Our preliminary investigative efforts in Ms. Bennett’s case have uncovered information which raises huge concerns.”
Bennett’s representatives say that the fact that Stevie J moved to Atlanta, where he is now doing LHHATL, is a crime in itself because under the 1992 Child Support Recovery Act, one who owes more than $10,000 in unpaid child support isn’t supposed to be able to leave a state and go somewhere else for more than two years.
Bennett is, again, a former music industry exec who says that she helped Stevie J with his career while he was writing and producing major hits for Bad Boy Records and Puff Daddy back in the day. Though he made millions in his career, Bennett’s reps say he has clearly not been sharing, and this is evident in the fact that before he moved to Atlanta, he had arrest warrants out for him in NYC to attend his support proceedings. C’mon Steve…

While you were still trying to rap your head around the batch of side-eye worthy reality shows going on right now, this news comes out. According to the JasmineBrand and the man himself, Love and Hip Hop Atlanta star Benzino is going to get a Ray J/Flavor Flav-esque reality dating show called Sucker For Love. It will be produced by you know who, Mona Scott-Young, and get this–Stevie J and Joseline Hernandez are allegedly also going to be helping to produce the show. Talk about a major come up for Miss Joseline!
The reality personality and rapper took to his Instagram to share the news, which he was clearly geeked up about:
“LADIES, GET READY FOR MY NEW REALITY SHOW COMMING SOON!!! INFO ON CASTING IN A WEEK!! IT’S GONE BE CRAYYYYYYYYYYZZZZZYYYYYYY!”
And on Twitter, he’s been responding and retweeting statements from his followers about the show, including telling them to “drink up and tune in.” The show is reportedly set to air once the third season of Love and Hip Hop Atlanta ends next spring. And as you can see above, a logo for the title of the show has already been made. Wonder what Karlie Redd thinks about all of this, because if she’s not his love interest/dramatic ex on LHHATL, her air time is going to get cut big time.
So now that this news is out there, the question is, would you date Benzino? As we know from the show, he has a sensitive side (remember when Karlie had him crying after he made her breakfast in bed?), he’s business-minded, and according to Instagram, he’s been trying to keep it s*xy for you at the gym:
BOW! Don’t front ladies, you know you just fell in love (the sarcasm is real right now)…
Ever wonder what Evelyn Lozada or Stevie J did before they were reality TV stars? You might be surprised to know. They had to be doing something before cameras followed their every move for us to see. Find out who these 15 reality stars were before the cameras.
Joseline’s past comes up quite a bit on Love and Hip-Hop Atlanta, since she was an adult dancer at King of Diamonds in Miami and Onyx strip club in Atlanta. Now you know Joseline couldn’t be just any str!pper, she claims that she was a “…classic str!pper. The top-of-the-line str!pper,” in an interview with Funky Dineva. Yes, let her tell it she was the best to ever do it.

If Love and Hip Hop New York and Love and Hip Hop Atlanta weren’t enough to feed your reality TV hunger, you’re probably going to freak out by the reports that Mona Scott-Young is possibly bringing Love and Hip Hop Houston to your boob tube. According to JasmineBrand via Diva Whispers, there have been talks that she might even try to expand the franchise to LA and New Orleans, but rumor has it that that she’s already put together a cast for Houston, and the lead of it all (as Stevie J was for LHHATL) will be Slim Thug. Here are a few of the other faces and names from H-Town that you might see if the show does indeed make its way to VH1.
