Ring the Alarm: Houston Monument to Honor Beyonce

Marcus Mitchell and Steve White may be the biggest Beyonce STANs ever. The Houston residents are taking the phrase “give me roses while I’m living” to heart by pushing for a statue to be erected in Beyonce’s honor in her hometown—and they claim the city has their backs.

“Our biggest thing is a lot of people get honored when they die, so our goal is to honor people why they’re still here. We felt as though it’s her time to be honored,” Marcus Mitchell told Fox News Houston.

The men are talking much more than a statue in city hall—although that should be expected when it comes to King Bey.

“We wanted to construct, like, a massive hall so as the doors open, if you donated to the monument, you’ll have a separate nameplate,” Marcus said. “There will be clips of Beyonce with Destiny’s Child and a wardrobe like a mini museum.”

In a day of massive budget cuts and unemployment, its surprising the men are pushing for such an elaborate monument. Their company, Armdeonce Ventures, is looking for private donors to fund the project, but they say the rest of the city has already given its OK.

“We’ve gotten support from the city of Houston, from the mayor,” Marcus said. “We’re waiting for a very nice letter from the mayor right now.”

If all is approved (and funded), they hope for a Sept. 4 unveiling on Beyonce’s birthday.

I’m all on board with honoring people while they’re still alive but this seems like a little too much too soon.

What do you think about this monument idea? Has Beyonce earned it after 15 years in the game?
