‘You Can Get Up And Move On After Things Fall Apart:’ Liza Morales Pens Open Letter About Losing Lamar Odom to Khloe Kardashian
Anyone who has been there knows that it is rather difficult to get past a rough breakup. Being unable to stroll through your local supermarket without seeing your ex and the very famous woman whom he left you for, plastered on magazine covers seems unfathomable. While this sounds like a storyline from a horrible soap opera, it is indeed the reality for former Starter Wives: Confidential star and mother to Lamar Odom’s children, Liza Morales. The Daily Beast recently published a rather detailed open letter penned by the New York native, where she recounts what it felt like to watch the love of her life marry another woman and how she moved on. The letter in its entirety reads:
“I don’t think I’ll forget the tight knot I felt in the pit of my stomach the morning I received the text message with three simple words on the screen. It read “I’m getting married” and it was from the man I’d spent more than 10 years of my life with. Years that included us getting engaged in 2000 and becoming parents to one daughter and two sons. Yet not long after our separation Lamar Odom was getting married to Khloe Kardashian, a woman he’d met four weeks before. How could the man who’d constantly given me reason after reason for why we couldn’t get married just yet now be ready to tie the knot so quickly? There aren’t words to explain how I felt that day.
I met Lamar in the 9th grade in Queens, New York, and was completely taken in by his wit, charm, and that devastating smile he so easily flashed at anyone he met. We dated from the 11th grade on and shared a tight bond due to a lot of things, including the fact that we both were products of broken homes.
Though my parents weren’t together, I did have a very close relationship with my father, whom I loved dearly and consider my hero. He worked very hard to make sure I could attend Catholic school and have everything I needed. But when I started dating Lamar that all changed. My father is Puerto Rican and he didn’t approve of me dating a black man. His small mind and small thinking ended the relationship with my dad. I wanted a life with Lamar and needed my family to support that. The next 10 years would be an amazing journey filled with many ups and down but Lamar and I were creating the family we’d both always dreamed of. Or so I thought.
We talked about marriage a lot during those days but Lamar would always tell me that NBA marriages never lasted. He’d point to Shaquille O’Neal’s marriage ending or Dwayne Wade’s marriage ending as examples of why we should wait until he retired to tie the knot. He told me he wanted to leave the game early and then the timing would be perfect for us. I listened to the many reasons why we weren’t married yet and believed them, knowing deep inside something wasn’t right. And then I slowly morphed into the girl I promised myself I’d never become, the girl who stayed long after she knew she shouldn’t. Truth is, I wanted that fairy tale so badly that I couldn’t bear to walk away from that life or take my children away from the comfort and security of a two-parent home.
I struggled to deal with all the groupies around him and with whatever else that was going on and just stayed put. My denial came to an abrupt end in 2006 after the death of Jayden. Lamar and I never really talked about our loss, which I know wasn’t healthy and also meant our relationship would never last. It couldn’t. I found out soon after that he’d had a long-term relationship with another woman—a relationship he said he’d end but he didn’t—and that was that.
We kept things cordial for the children’s sake after the breakup, but that changed when he married Khloe. Now we only communicate through third parties and lawyers, which I regret deeply since it is exactly what we each experienced as children and said we wouldn’t do to our kids.
I’ve only met Khloe once, at my request since she is my children’s stepmother and I felt it was important to get a sense of her and what she’s like around my children. It was a very pleasant meeting, she gave me a hug so I’m happy it happened.
Though some frown upon my decision to do a reality show, I agreed to be a part of “Starter Wives” so I could tell my own story of how things unfolded after Lamar married Khloe. We weren’t really together so I didn’t fall apart as many have suggested. I’ve have to deal with a lot of tabloid lies as the result of all the attention Lamar gets since he’s married to someone so famous.
To be honest I’m really doing the show for my daughter to prove to her that you can get up and move on after things fall apart. I did it to show her how you make mistakes and fix them and that you can never give up on yourself. She needed to see that and hear it from me. I think I also hope my father sees it as well. The only time I’ve seen my dad in recent years was at the funeral for my son. That was the first time Lamar had ever met him or that the kids had a chance to meet him. I’d really love for my kids to have their grandparents in their lives. They’ve met Lamar’s father (his mother passed away before we met) and are very close to my mother. I’d like to see that change and see them have relationships with both of their grandfathers.”

There are so many instances of the “token black guy” and “token black girl” in whitewashed entertainment that we sometimes overlook an opposite – and of course, smaller – category of characters: token white chicks. But though there aren’t many that automatically come to mind, there are at least 11 who’ve held – and continue to hold – prominent roles on some of our favorite TV shows. Can you think of any other token white chicks we may have missed?
‘I Didn’t Like It, So It’s Off:’ 50 Cent Brags About Pulling The Plug On ‘Starter Wives Confidential’
Yesterday, we told you that TLC mysteriously decided to snatch reality show, Starter Wives Confidential off of the air, after releasing only three episodes. It didn’t take a rocket scientist to conclude that one of the famous exes of the women on the show probably had something to do with it, but the ex that came forward was a bit surprising. In case you haven’t been keeping up with Starter Wives Confidential, the mother of 50 Cent’s son, Shaniqua Tompkins was cut from the show during the first episode, after being caught up in some legal red tape. The way it was portrayed on the show, she signed a book deal with 50 a few years back, which prohibited her from divulging any information about him or their relationship on the show. This is why when it came to possible exes who could’ve had something to do with pulling the plug on the show, 50 was the last person to come to people’s minds. But, he shocked us all when he took to his Twitter page to taunt the ladies from the show and take credit for having a hand in its cancelation.
Cast member and ex of Floyd Mayweather, Josie Harris, clearly flustered with 50 chose to fight back, claiming that the actual cause of the cancelation was that the show’s ratings were too low.

If you were a fan of TLC’s latest reality show, Starter Wives Confidential, you’ll be saddened to know that the network has decided to pull the plug on the rest of the season. While the exact reason why the show has been canceled hasn’t been revealed, it’s quite obvious that the exes of some of the ladies who appear on the show weren’t exactly thrilled about their dirty laundry being aired out once a week on national television. Not to fret though, the remaining episodes will be available on TLC’s website. The announcement was made by Funkmaster Flex’s ex-wife, Monica Joseph-Taylor via her blog, Mommy’s Dirty Little Secret. Check out her full statement below.
If you want to watch the remainder of episodes of Starter Wives Confidential you will have to go online to TLC.com.
Ask me why? ::Long pause::
Is it ratings? Is it a change in network direction…or all the outside drama?!
It’s no secret Starter Wives Confidential was plagued by legal inquiries and possible lawsuits from the beginning. Starting with Shanequa Tompkins being missing from all the episodes, her ex 50 cent allegedly had an agreement or contract with her of some sort that either prevented or made it difficult for her to partake in the show. I know before taping even began I was questioned about my posts relating to anyone connected with Lamar Odom. Luckily TLC had no control over what I do or can post so it became a non-issue. I never did find out who was putting pressure on them. Cut to the Lil Kim situation, one which I’m still confused about and can’t even confirm if there is a law suit.
Bringing a show with women of color to TLC we always knew was a challenge and I love that they believed in our stories and gave us a voice. A voice, honesty, love, a lot of drama, and a bit of ratchetness. (Usually required for any good reality show.)
I can only imagine there were a lot of people who were afraid what would come out on Starter Wives Confidential and as you saw from the first few episodes, the ladies were NOT holding back! Trust me it gets better and much juicier. But I digress. (I always wanted to say that in a post.)
I want to say that from the very bottom of my soul the support and love from viewers was more amazing then I imagined. Even the haters felt our show was genuine. I love that personally I got to not only bond with 5 amazing women but was allowed to show that not all celebrity wives sit home, model, or are simpletons. For the first time people got to know who I really am, if even just a little bit.
So it SUCKS that you have to watch episodes online but it beeeez like that sometimes. But make sure you still log onto http://www.mommysdirtylittlesecret.com everyday for the latest news, gossip, and info (c’mon y’all know me by now, why pretend anymore #endlesspromotion #bossb**ch #keepitmovin #letmefinish)
P.S. I realize I didn’t answer why we are not being aired anymore…you will just have to judge for yourself. ::Closes the shades carefully as she writes and presses send::

While many will probably be relieved to hear the news that another ratchet reality show has been booted off of the air, I can’t help but feel a bit sad for a cast member like Tashera Simmons, who avoided drama and was just utilizing the show as a means of supporting her children.

“Imitation Is A Form Of Flattery”: Liza Morales Speaks On Claims That She And Khloe Kardashian Look Very Similar
Khloe is on the left, Liza on the right. In case you were already confused.
In an interview with the New York Daily News recently, Starter Wives Confidential star and the mother of Lamar Odom’s children, Liza Morales, spoke on Khloe Kardashian as a mother in the future, and the claims that homegirl bears a resemblance to the famous Kardashian sister. Things got a little shady, if you know what I mean, but Morales makes it seem as though she and Khloe get along just fine.
For some reason, conversation veered away from talking about her upcoming TLC series and instead began to focus more on Khloe, and somehow, all of a sudden the new reality star was asked if she felt that Lamar’s new wife would be a good mother, since she gets the chance to spend a lot of time with the son and daughter Morales shares with Odom, and has also struggled in the past to get pregnant. “I don’t know if she’s good maternally, I don’t know. As long as my kids are good, I’m good…As long as my kids are taken care of and I haven’t heard anything negative, then I’m good.”
On top of that, Morales also decided to give a response to the many people who seem to think that she and Kardashian are strikingly similar in their physical appearance. I personally don’t see it aside from the dark hair, but that’s just me. Older than Khloe, Morales makes it clear that if anything, the Kardashian sister looks like HER, not the other way around:
“I’m 100% Puerto Rican and I was here first. I was here first, so she has a resemblance to me. I don’t see it. We both have dark hair. We both have a cherub face. I don’t think we look alike, but I have heard it. Imitation is a form of flattery!”
In her interview with the New York Daily News’ entertainment site, Confidential, Morales also talks about why she and Odom went their separate ways after the death of their son, who passed from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, but also says that she’s moved on and can’t wait to have sex again in the future after being celibate for the last four years: “I’m not waiting for marriage, I’m just waiting for a good man. I will be like a caged animal out of the Bronx Zoo.”
Well all right. While other sites, including those at the NY Daily News who interviewed her, tried to come at Morales’ head for saying she didn’t know if Khloe would be good maternally, let me say that it clearly says that she claimed she “didn’t know” whether or not she would be a good mom, not that she would be a bad one for this reason or the other. You truly don’t know what type of parents folks will be until they actually get a baby in their hands to take care of 24/7. But as for Morales’ comments on herself and Khloe looking similar…uh, no comment. Check out the full interview here.
Ready For Hollywood Exes 2.0? TLC Releases Trailer For New Reality Show ‘Starter Wives Confidential’
In case you were in need of another reality show to add to your rotation, TLC recently dropped a trailer for its upcoming reality show Starter Wives Confidential. If you recall, back in September we told you guys that the production of a show starring the exes of some entertainers whom most of us were quite familiar with was in the works. The show’s cast was said to include:
Zakia Baum: Ex-girlfriend of Jermaine “Maino” Coleman and mother of his son.
Cheryl Caruso: Ex-wife of mobster Phillip Caruso and mother of his two daughters.
Josie Harris: Ex-girlfriend of Floyd Mayweather and mother of his three children.
Monica Joseph-Taylor: soon to be ex-wife of Aston “Funkmaster Flex” Taylor and mother to his two children.
Tashera Simmons: Ex-wife of Earl “DMX” Simmons and mother of four of his children.
Liza Morales: Ex-girlfriend of Lamar Odom and mother of his three children.
Shaniqua Tompkins: Ex-girlfriend of Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and mother of his son.
The trailer depicts the women forming some sort of emotional support group as they bond over the struggles of single motherhood. Many seemed somewhat opposed to the show for pretty obvious and understandable reasons. We all realize that we don’t need another show depicting women in a negative light. Call me an optimist, but judging by the trailer, the show doesn’t look like it will necessarily fit into the drink-throwing, ratchet reality television mold that we’re used to. There appears to be a teeny tiny chance that it may go in a different direction.
Somewhere deep down inside, I’m hoping that this particular show will rise above current reality television standard and bring forth something positive. I’m hoping that instead of resorting to cattiness and bickering with one another after a couple of episodes, the ladies will rally around each other and positively represent single mothers. But again, this is reality television we’re talking about and I could be overly optimistic.
The show will premiere Tuesday, January 29th at 10 pm EST.
Check out the trailer on the next page and judge for yourselves. Will Starter Wives Confidential just be another ratchet reality show that negatively depicts Black women?
