Sad news. American Idol winner Ruben Studdard has filed for divorce from his wife of three years, Surata Zuri McCants. The pair married in 2008 after dating for two years in Alabama. It’s a shame their union didn’t last — Ruben seems like such a nice guy! According to HuffPost Black Voices:

According to the Daily Mail, Studdard has filed divorce papers in Alabama citing “irreconcilable differences.” Studdard’s attorney, Byron Perkins stated to the site: “Ruben Studdard and Zuri McCants Studdard have separated, and they are in the process of seeking a dissolution of their marriage. They each request the public respects their privacy during this trying time in their lives.”

In keeping with his sweet and lovable image, Studdard will be soldiering on despite these setbacks in his personal life to attend a series of charity events in the coming days that bear his name.

“A weekend of events in his hometown which bear his name, which includes a fundraiser on Friday and a Sunday marathon, will go on for the sake of his charitable foundation,” the Daily Mail also reports. That is really wonderful that Ruben Studdard will be thinking of others at a time of deep personal need. His reaction to his divorce is a far cry from the behavior of Kim Kardashian, who went on a business trip to promote her handbag line a mere hours after dumping her husband.

We commend Ruben Studdard, and wish both parties the best as they move on and heal.

I have a feeling Kim Kardashian is dancing around her million dollar mansion right now listening to Usher because, as TMZ and Ryan Seacrest have confirmed, she is in fact ready to sign them papers and end her 72-day marriage to Kris Humphries.

Divorce rumors have surrounded the couple since they were spotted out at a not-so-enjoyable dinner last week, but now with reports claiming that E! arranged the entire marriage, that outing seems hardly relevant.

According to TMZ, Kim has filed for divorce and the date of separation is listed as today, Oct. 31. Kim has also confirmed the move with a statement, saying:

“After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage. I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever but sometimes things don’t work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best.”

Reportedly, Kim has hired Laura Wasser, who has represented celebs like Britney Spears, Maria Shriver, Angelina Jolie, and Ryan Reynolds. Kris is expected to pay his own lawyers’ fees and she wants the court to reject any move by Kris to get spousal support. One smart thing she did was sign a prenup.

I already know none of you is surprised by this news, but what do you think about this whole situation overall? A lot of people say they respect Kim’s hustle and the cash she earned from this whole arranged million dollar wedding, but I personally think it makes her look foolish. What do you say?

We inspect every part of a celebrity couple’s relationship, especially when at least one of them is a hot name in the game. Where they are eating, what vacations they’re taking with their boo, what they’re getting caught doing with an unexpected new boo, and so on and so forth. And while some relationships that end under the microscope of the paparazzi truly leave us confused and shocked, others wind up being a no brainer. No offense to the following couples, it wasn’t like we were necessarily rooting against you or taking bets on your union’s demise, but your relationships were just too a little too unhealthy or ridiculous to make it to a happy ending.
