Small Business $30 Billion Credit Clears Senate Hurdle
(The Grio) – In a win for President Barack Obama and his political allies, Senate Democrats on Tuesday won a crucial vote to clear the way for a bill to create a $30 billion government fund to help open up lending for credit-starved small businesses. Democrats cracked a GOP filibuster of the bill with the help of two Republicans: Sens. George Voinovich of Ohio and George LeMieux of Florida.

If they’re not toting cash or the restaurant’s own credit card, they’ll have to run to the nearest cash machine when it’s time to pay the bill. The steakhouse, like a number of small businesses, has long refused to take credit because of high interchange or “swipe” fees paid to card companies and banks.
