Sherri Shepherd Plans On Getting A Gun After A Bump In The Night Startled Her Family
From BlackVoices
“View” co-host Sherri Shepherd appeared on Tuesday’s “Fox & Friends” and told the hosts why she planned on purchasing a gun. Last month, the alarm system in Shepherd’s house went off in the middle of the night. Shepherd was so freaked out that she decided to purchase a gun. “We have two dogs and they didn’t bark,” Shepherd said to the “Fox & Friends” hosts.
“And immediately my husband jumped out of bed and ran downstairs. And I ran to my son Jeffrey’s room. And I never wanted a gun in my house but the sight of my son laying there saying, ‘Mommy I’m scared.’ That’s when you realize all you got is a wicker trash basket between me and anybody that comes in this room. And it was a scary thought.”

Sherri Shepherd Discusses How Her Diabetes Diagnosis Saved Her Life And Pushed Her To Drop The Pounds

Nikki Nelson/WENN.com
Sherri Shepherd has been very vocal in the past about her battles with her weight. At one point, she came out on the stage of The View in a swimsuit and on the cover of OK! to show off what she was working with after a big weight loss. But like most women, Shepherd’s weight has gone up and down over the years, mainly because of her love for things like pasta, pancakes and more. However, she knew she had to get it in order after she was diagnosed with diabetes, right around the time her weight was hitting near 200 pounds.
She opened up about this in her new book, Plan D: How to Lose Weight and Beat Diabetes (Even If You Don’t Have It), which comes out today. As she explained in an interview with USA Today, the threat of losing her life and limbs to diabetes and possibly not being around to take care of her son, Jeffrey, really was the wake-up call she needed:
“I was going through a nasty divorce at the time and I thought, “I’ll be dammed if my husband’s girlfriend is going to raise my son.”‘
“She said [her doctor] ‘Sherri, you love wearing those shoes, don’t you?’ I said, “Yes, I do.” She said, ‘You won’t be wearing them with your foot cut off, because if you keep eating the way you are eating, that’s where you’re headed.’”
“I learned how to get rid of the white foods – the pasta, pancakes, cereal, anything loaded with sugar.”
“If I didn’t have diabetes, I would probably be at the International House of Pancakes eating a stack of pancakes with butter and syrup,” says Shepherd, 46. “I would probably be 250 pounds. I would not be going to the doctor. I probably wouldn’t be married to my husband, Lamar Sally. I wouldn’t be healthy for my son, Jeffrey.”
But now she’s trading carbs and sugar for vegetables and taking advantage of the space around her at home to work out when she can’t get out to the gym:
“I never liked vegetables before. Now I’m a kale freak because one day we got kale and my husband sautéed it with green peppers, olive oil and garlic.”
“I have learned to turn my house into a gym. I do lunges when going to the laundry with my basket. When cooking, I do push-ups against the kitchen counter. I do toilet squats. My behind has not touched a toilet seat in years. I am an Olympic squatter.”
All in all, being diagnosed with diabetes, but it was a blessing in disguise because it’s made the TV personality and actress a happier and healthier individual. “I feel really healthy,’ she said ‘I have so much energy. I want to live and I’m going to beat this thing. I feel so blessed.”
What do you think of her open and honest comments on her struggle to eat and live healthier?
*Update* Feisty Funny Lady Joy Behar Leaving “The View” — Elisabeth Hasselbeck Rumored To Get The Boot Too
*Update*
On top of news that Joy Behar is leaving “The View,” Us Weekly is reporting that Elisabeth Hasslebeck is getting the boot too:
Elisabeth Hasselbeck, one of the five cohorts of ABC’s daytime talk show The View, will not be returning to the couch next season, following hot on the footsteps of fellow cohost Joy Behar, a source tells Us Weekly.
According to the source, the show’s resident conservative voice is being ousted after market research revealed that she isn’t popular with TV audiences.
“The viewers they polled all said she was too extreme and right wing,” the insider tells Us. “People did not watch the show because of Elisabeth. So they told her yesterday her contract would not be renewed.”
When reached for comment, a rep for the show told Us in a statement: “Elisabeth Hasselbeck is a valued member of The View and has a long term contract.”
—————–
After rolling with it since its debut in 1997, Joy Behar has decided to call it quits with the show that has made her a household name (and an enemy to right-wing folk). According to Deadline.com, she’s not renewing her contract with ABC’s The View in August because she wants to see what else is out there. The 70-year-old (she looks great doesn’t she?), when speaking on her pending departure says t Deadline, “It seemed like the right time. You reach a point when you say to yourself, ‘Do I want to keep doing this?’ There are other things on my plate I want to do — I’ve been writing a play, I’ve been neglecting my standup.”
Behar has tried her hand at being a singular host outside of The View, including her show on HLN, The Joy Behar Show, which was a big success ratings wise, but ended after just a couple of seasons. She also received another shot as a talk show host with Joy Behar: Say Anything!, which is on Current TV. It will also be canceled though when Al Jazeera takes over the network soon. But whatever is next for Behar, she only has love for her ABC family and the feeling is mutual. “I have a lot of friends there, and I will miss everyone I’ve worked with because we have a family there.” And she also spoke particularly high of Barbra Walters out of all the ladies around the table saying, “It is a smart talk show because somebody of her stature is leading the conversation; Barbara was one of the main reasons I took that job.”
While I’m not particularly a fan of Behar’s solo hosting efforts, I really like her on The View, which we watch like clockwork at 11 a.m. every morning ’round these parts. But you can tell that with the addition of other funny ladies with a lot to say, aka Sherri Shepherd and Whoopi Goldberg, Behar was kind of fading in the background since they, with Hasslebeck, seem to dominate the conversation with their wit and strong opinions. Either way though, it was a good run while it lasted, girl!
Will you miss Behar on The View?

C’Mon Now: Black Celebrities That White Folks Mistake For One Another (But They DON’T Look Alike…)

I’m sure you’ve seen a newscast, a photo gallery, or something online where one celebrity was mistaken for another. People do it all the time! How many times have you looked at a photo of “New Girl” star, Zooey Deschanel and thought you were seeing Katy Perry? Sometimes it’s understandable confusion. But with a lot of black celebrities, the mistakes can be head-scratch worthy. From women being mistaken for men and people of two totally different complexions and sizes being mistaken for the same person, sometimes this ish gets out of hand. For example…
Sherri Shepherd’s Ready For Another Baby: “I’m Still Looking For A Uterus”
Sherri Shepherd is ready to be a mommy again but she needs a little help. During an upcoming appearance on Rachael Ray, she told the daytime host:
“I’m trying to have another baby you know, I’m still trying . . . still looking for a uterus.” To sweeten the pot of being the woman to carry Sherri Shepherd’s baby she jokingly added, “I’ll give you a free weave and a Hyundai for a year.”
She’s so ghetto.
At 45, Sherri knows physically carrying a baby wouldn’t be the best thing for the mother of one. But emotionally she says she’s on point. Plus she probably wants a baby with her husband Lamar Sally, since 7-year-old Jeffrey is her ex-husband Jeff Tarpley’s son. Speaking on her plans, Sherri said:
“I don’t know how we’re going to have this baby because I’m in my forties and I can’t even remember my first son’s name, but I’m going to have another baby because I’m feeling good.”
If you want a year’s worth of free weave and a car you better get to tweeting Sherri! Just kidding good luck to her and Lamar with their baby plans!

Whoopi Goes In On Ann Coulter: If You’re Going To Talk About Race, Know What You’re Talking About
Whoopi, Whoopi, Whoopi.
Whenever Ann Coulter is around you know an argument is sure to pop off. Add Whoopi Goldberg and the rest of the ladies of “The View” to the mix and you have a full-blown case of fireworks. Yesterday, the always controversial republican stopped by the daytime talk show to discuss her new book, “Mugged,” but what Whoopi, Sherri, and Joy really wanted to know was why she always has something ridiculous to say about black people in her attempt to discredit democrats.
Ann had barely gotten through four sentences before Whoopi had to interrupt her and plainly ask what I’m sure 99% of viewers were wondering: ”What are you talking about?”
“Oh you know what, hold up Ms. Coulter, please stop. Please stop,” Whoopi added. “If you are going to talk about race, at least, at least, know what you’re talking about.”
Coulter then asked, “What Don’t I Know,” to which Whoopi replied:
“Well tell me what you know about being black. Your facts are a little shaky. I mean, you’re saying that because liberals have abandoned black people now—what? I don’t get it. I don’t understand.”
And that was just the beginning. Before long, Joy, Sherri, and even Barbara had to ask Ann what the heck her purpose is — in life. What’s even more hilarious than the bickering is the fact that Elizabeth left her girl all out there to fend for herself. Ain’t no love for a republican on “The View.” Check out the clips if you didn’t see her appearance yesterday. What do you think?

“The View”‘s Sherri Shepherd Debuts Wig Collection
Almost every day, when TV personality Sherri Shepherd steps up to the table to join the other women of The View, it is inevitable someone will say something about Sherri’s hair. Whether good or bad, Shepherd is constantly making a hair statement with the wigs she wears.
Now, the actress has announced her own line of wigs through a partnership with Aderans Hair– LUXHAIR NOW by Sherri Shepherd – that includes a full wardrobe of hairstyles.
“Wigs have always been a part of my life and have become a staple accessory in my closet. I can remember being a little girl and hearing all the commotion in my house from my mom, aunts and grandmother when picking out their wigs for the day. It was such a good time for them and part of their everyday beauty routine,” said Shepherd in a press statement.
The line includes 12 wig and extension styles, ranging from short to long to curly, and 18 color options, including jet black, deep red and silver grey. According to the company, each piece is hand-woven and treated with a unique texturized styleable Keralon that is supposed to make “each synthetic fiber and strand as style friendly and durable as natural hair.” Some pieces will have soft lace fronts. Shepherd’s wigs cost between $69 and $99 and will be available starting this month at Wigs.com, independent wig and beauty supply channels, Web retailers, catalog and shopping TV.
The Florida Courier reports that wigs and weaves are the moneymakers in the beauty industry: “According to the Black Owned Beauty Supply Association, the Black hair care and cosmetic industry is a $9 billion industry and it serves millions of African-Americans.” Yet, says the article, African Americans don’t have much ownership in the industry. Well, add Shepherd to the list of African-American celebrities with their own wig lines. Some of the others include: Vivica A. Fox, Elise Neal, and Iman.
Montgomery Frazier, ”The Image Guru,” feels the Shepherd collection has a good chance at success because there is a great demand, especially in the ethnic community. “I think that most ladies of color, who do not opt for extensions or weaves, or lengthy hair straightening processes, see wigs as a quick, versatile alternative for a multitude of styles that give them all the personalities they desire and compliment all their outfits appropriately,” he says.
And because Shepherd is a celebrity she has an edge in promoting her line—by wearing it on television daily. Concludes Frazier, “Look at women like Cher and Lady Gaga —icons. They’ve been known as much for their hairstyles as… their fashions.”
