I feel like the caption here is “what parade?” considering during the Inaugural Parade yesterday in Washington DC, it was clear none of the Obamas were fazed by the festivities of the day the second time around. Reporters caught this candid shot of the first family doing their own thing as the day carried out, with Barack and Michelle taking the time to share a smooch, and Sasha apparently trying to capture a pic of her sister, Malia’s, tonsils it seems.  Basically, they’re being a regular family and I love that the Flotus and Potus took time to get in a quick peck. I do wonder if Michelle had to pinch her girls after and tell them to put the camera away with the world watching, though.

Caption this pic and tell us what you think was going on here.

So How Does Father Obama Embarrass Malia and Sasha?

From Black Voices

It was only just before the election that Barack Obama first heard “Gangnam Style.”

At the time, he noted tentatively: “I think I can do that move. But I’m not sure that the inauguration ball is the appropriate time to break that out.”

Two months later, he’s still reluctant to do the dance in public — but he’s apparently more than willing to do it at home.

“They’re cooler than I am,” the president says of his daughters in a new interview with People magazine. “There are things I like that they think are cheesy, like ‘Gangnam Style.’” He adds that he “absolutely” does the now-internationally-famous “gallop” to embarrass his kids.

Obama has already expressed his appreciation of the mega-viral hit in person, according to an interview with Psy in The Hollywood Reporter. The South Korean singer explained: “He told me he’s good at ‘Gangnam Style’ but that the ladies at his house are embarrassed when he’s dancing so he’s not doing it.”

Growing Up In the White House: What Is Life Like for Sasha and Malia?

Business Insider takes an interesting look at the lives of Sasha and Malia, the First Daughters who have found themselves growing up in the spotlight, before the eyes of an entire nation.

The feature notes that, when Barack Obama was elected to the Presidency, Sasha was the “youngest child to live in the White House since John F. Kennedy Jr.” They attend a prestigious private school, Sidwell Friends School, which has educated the children of past presidents and dignitaries. And they travel around the world. But the story notes that they also have responsibilities and aren’t lavished with gifts.

Titled “The Fabulous Lives of Sasha and Malia Obama,” we have no doubt that there is a level of fabulosity to it. They are the daughters of The President of the United States, after all. But there has to be a good deal of pressure involved also. Knowing that when you go on vacation with your parents, for instance, it will be photographed and beamed out to the world is intense stuff. There’s probably also a fair amount of worry. We can imagine that the girls, especially Malia, who’s older, must be thinking about the election and whether their dad will win.

The most striking thing about the slideshow is how grown up the two girls look now. Amazing. Click here to take a look.

Hey, hey, hey! It’s your favorite post of the week (aside from Evening Eye Candy I’m sure), Cute Kid Alert! Let’s see who was showcasing their beautiful children as of recent.

For starters, we thought it was too cute that proud papa Diddy decided to shout out all his kids who graduated recently. Most folks have been paying attention to the fact that Justin got into UCLA with a huge scholarship and graduated from high school, but who knew Christian graduated from junior high school, and that his daughter Chance just finished kindergarten? The father sent love to his kids via his Twitter account, letting the whole world know about his brood of scholars:

In his tweet for Christian, Diddy said, “Congrats to my twin Christian who graduated from 8th grade going to High School! God’s the greatest!”

For Chance he posted this picture and said, “Congrats to my daughter Chance who graduated from kindergarten! You’re on your way to 1st grade baby”

And for his first-born, Diddy said the following: “Congratulations @JDior_ for graduating from High School!! UCLA here we come!!!”

Vanessa Williams also Tweeted out a picture of some of her kids. The two ladies above are Sasha (her 12-year-old daughter with Rick Fox), and Jillian (her 23-year-old daughter with ex-husband, Ramon Hervey II). For the caption, the proud mama wrote, “My big girls summer in the city…” Big indeed! I would have never looked at Sasha and thought she was 12…

Solange was also seen out and about with her little man, Julez, as they hit up Stella McCartney’s Spring fashion presentation in NYC yesterday. She wore Stella McCartney and looked fabulous, per the usual, and her son was looking very dapper and colorful himself. Awwww, luv these two!

And lastly, Charlize Theron and her son Jackson were seen waltzing around in Cali, hats on deck, and colorful attire in full effect. He looks like a living doll! Glad to see she’s so enamored with her little man…and I can’t wait to see what her shaved head is looking like!

CUTE-NESS!

I’m a Little Uncomfortable With Michelle O’s Love For Beyoncé, Are You?

I know, I know; you’re already assuming by this headline that I’m hating on Bey. Well, although there’s a lot to be envious about, my issue with Beyonce and the First Lady’s romance has less to do with Bey and more to do with Michelle Obama.

As reviews start rolling in of Beyoncé’s concert at the Revel Casino in Atlantic City, it’s become apparent that Michelle’s attendance, along with her two daughters Sasha and Malia, added an umph factor to the already-highly-publicized festivities. Just days before, the First Lady had told People that if she could be anyone else, she’d be Beyoncé. Huh?

But my confusion with Michelle Obama’s infatuation with the pop star didn’t start there – it started when she commented about how good of a role model Beyonce is to young women. I don’t know about you but although I do think Bey is the greatest performer out there today (as her hubby Jay tweeted over the weekend), I wouldn’t hold her up as the gold standard for young girls.

Sasha and Malia are both under 13. To uphold this woman, who has partially gotten to the top by dressing scantily and gyrating in music videos and engaging in a competition of whose the hottest amongst the pop princesses, as their role model just seems kind of funny to me.

To be honest, I’d be more comfortable with my kids watching Kelly Clarkson videos any day. But again, that’s about understanding what it means to be an appropriate role model for young girls. Michelle Obama is an example of a wholesome role model. Beyonce definitely deserves respect but her career is not something I’d be comfortable for my kids to admire.

While I’m sure Michelle appreciates the Carter’s support of her husband’s election campaign, I do think she needs to draw the line when it comes to her fandom of Queen Bee. President Obama has been accused of being too Hollywood and the gushing of the Carters, a family who is better known for their musical achievements rather than their philanthropic efforts, doesn’t really help to keep them connected with the average American. I admire the Obamas, and I admire the Carters on a very different level, but I do want them to stay in their lanes to an extent. I admit it!

What do you think? Should FLOTUS keep her love affair for the Queen on the low or continue to espouse her as a great role model?

Easter with the Obamas

The first family joined the millions of families across the world who celebrated Easter Sunday by attending church. Yesterday the Obamas walked across Lafeyette Square to attend services at St. John’s Church, a block from the White House.

The first lady kept it classy with a slick bun, a Thakoon dress and a cropped black cardigan.

Sasha and Malia, who are growing up quite quickly, looked equally beautiful in their dresses and cardigans.

On Wednesday, April 4,  Michelle Obama kicked off Military Child month by swinging by the Walter Reed Fisher House. She brought Easter candies, decorated Easter cards and gave away tickets to the White House Easter egg roll.

Getting a high five from the first lady. How awesome is that?

Hugs for the kiddies!

The Obama family dog, Bo, even took part in the festivities. Too cute!

Michelle Obama: The Chicest Mom at the Kids’ Choice Awards

Last night was one of the biggest nights of the year for the little ones. Nickelodeon’s annual Kids’ Choice Awards took place last night in LA and our first lady/friend in our head was there with her daughter Sasha and Malia. Of course she looked fabulous! Rocking a pair of  leather pants and a Wes Gordon houndstooth sequined tunic, we’re sure if the first lady embarrassed her daughters that night it wasn’t because of her fashion choices. Werk!

But she wasn’t just there to enjoy the festivities, she was there to present the Big Help Award to 20 year old country singer, Taylor Swift. Over the years Swift has worked with children’s charities, helped combat bullying, and given over tens of thousands of books to schools and libraries all around the country.

Check out some photos from the night below.

President Obama on Being the Father He Never Had

June 9th, 2011 - By Veronica Wells

We’ve known for years now that fatherhood is of supreme importance to President Obama. From the message he delivered in church, to the public service announcements to the essays, Obama wants to encourage men to be an active part of their children’s lives.

Undoubtedly his passion for the subject stems from his experiences with his own father, who left he and his mother when he was two years old.

The president expressed these sentiments in a Father’s Day essay for People Magazine.

I grew up without a father around. I have certain memories of him taking me to my first jazz concert and giving me my first basketball as a Christmas present. But he left when I was two years old.

And even though my sister and I were lucky enough to be raised by a wonderful mother and caring grandparents, I always felt his absence and wondered what it would have been like if he had been a greater presence in my life. I still do. It is perhaps for this reason that fatherhood is so important to me, and why I’ve tried so hard to be there for my own children.

Does your motivation to be a good parent stem from your own parents’ shortcomings?

You can read a bit more of the essay at People.com.

No Facebook for the Obama Girls

February 10th, 2011 - By Veronica Wells

In a recent interview with “Today Show’s” Matt Lauer Mrs. Obama said that her girls are not allowed on Facebook. This is not so shocking considering there’s a whole agency devoted to protecting their privacy and safety. But then Matt asked if they’d be allowed to have one once they left the White House, Mrs. Obama said it depends on how old they are when they leave. If President Obama is elected for another term, Sasha will be 15 and Malia will be 18.

Many anti- Facebook groups are supporting the First Lady’s stance to keep her daughters off the site.

Should the girls have their own Facebook page, and if not now, when, if ever?
