Some San Diego high school students got the shock of their life recently when they found out that a twerk video they thought was harmless, was going to get them not only suspended from school, but banned from prom, and for senior students involved, kept from walking across the stage during graduation. Did the school overreact or did these students really play themselves? Let’s discuss.

So 33 students at the Scripps Ranch High School in San Diego, who ironically were all part of a media class at the school, found time to create a twerk video with all of the young ladies featured upside down, posted up against a wall, shaking their behinds as a scrawny young black man poses next to them and even between their legs. In the frenzy of all this twerking, no one saw anything wrong with doing this ON school grounds. Nor did they find any problem with staring in the camera and saying, “Welcome to the Scripps Ranch High School Twerk Team!” Faces all exposed, twerking for the world. Fail.

According to the NBC affiliate in San Diego, the young women taped claimed that they didn’t know that whoever was recording the video would go on to OF COURSE put it on YouTube, but once it was posted for the world to see and school officials got word of it, there was nothing the students could do to appease them. As previously stated, the 33 students involved were banned from prom, walking in their graduation, and suspended from Tuesday and on through Friday this week as part of a “zero tolerance infraction” policy against sexual harassment and major disruptions on school grounds, which is made clear in the student handbook–a handbook every student has to sign and agree that they understand.

A parent who spoke with the NBC affiliate in San Diego said that she thought the school overreacted and should have used this episode as a teaching moment. But these students knew better. In this digital age, nobody just shoots video of folks twerking just to do it. It’s going on YouTube or WorldStar, or wherever other rachetry is sold. And even if you didn’t know it was going online, why would you want to participate in some foolery like that on school grounds?

Tommie Harris, member of the San Diego Chargers football team, has suffered a sadly similar experience to NFLer Chris Draft this week. On Sunday evening, his wife, Ashely Harris, passed away after being hospitalized just two days prior for a stroke or brain aneurysm.

Ashley was only 29, and she and and Tommie just said “I do” on New Year’s Day. The couple was planning a reception in Oklahoma where Tommie played college ball but sadly they weren’t able to finish their plans. The young mother had also recently given birth to the couple’s second child, 4-month-old Tinsley, and they also have a 3-year-old named Tyson together.

Family friend Bill Horn told the Chicago Sun-Times:

“Tommie has been overwhelmed by the support of his former teammates, the Bears organization and the city of Chicago. Please continue to pray for him as he and his children grieve the loss of his wife.”

Ashley and Tommie were visiting Oklahoma last week when Ashley suddenly collapsed and was taken to the hospital. An official cause of death has not yet been confirmed and the autopsy is currently pending. Ashley’s funeral will be held in her birthplace of New Orleans on Friday.We’re definitely sending prayers to the family.

There’s never really a good time to run out of gas, but you definitely don’t want to be in that situation when your wife is in labor. That’s what happened to Aaron Reynolds in San Diego when his wife, Nicole, went into labor two weeks early.

After packing his wife in the car and attempting to head to the hospital, Aaron had to reroute when his Port Expedition ran low on gas. But the couple never made it to the gas station either, and Nicole ended up having to deliver their third child on the side of the freeway.

“She [was] saying she needs to push,” Aaron told Fox 5. “She said, ‘Pull over the vehicle’ and any father knows when the wife says pull over you better pull over.”

A 911 dispatcher helped the couple through the delivery, and although Nicole said she was worried about not having pain medication while giving birth, “it wasn’t that bad.”

“I really thank the 911 dispatcher and I thank my wife for allowing me to practice as a doctor,” Aaron said. “We’re just really thankful it worked out great. [It's like] something we see in the movies.”
