Nearly a month ago, we found out 33-year-old Ahmad “Real” Givens of VH1′s I Love New York and Real Chance of Love  had been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. Immediately, everyone who remembered him and his brother on TV felt a pang of sadness at someone so young and vibrant being faced with such a horrific battle, but the reality TV star is, thankfully, in high spirits. Yesterday, he gave fans an update on his Facebook page, and assured them he’s ready to fight the good fight and become a cancer survivor. He wrote:

Hey everyone,I know its been awhile since I’ve been on here.I’m sure most of you know I have colon cancer. At this moment I would like everyone to know I am doing a lot better after the chemo, changing my diet and the biggest impact of all which is God.He is truly amazing….It has truly touched my heart to see the love and support I have received from family, friends, associates, the media and all the people on facebook and twitter.

I want to say THANK YOU to everyone and all those who have donated.Your donations have helped more than you know and I don’t know how to thank you enough.I’m gonna fight this cancer with all my strength and with God’s grace and love,I believe I’m gonna beat this.I’ll keep u posted on my progress and again,I thank you for all the donations, love and support from everyone.Thank you and I love you all.God bless

When Ahmad went public with his diagnosis last month, he set up an account for donations to help with his treatment costs and medical bills. Donations can be made payable to account “Cancer Funds for Real,”  Chase bank acct# 407662563. Let’s hope he continues to handle his treatment well and progress through this illness.

Is That What We Think It Is? “L&HH” Star Erica Mena Is Pregnant!

Well, isn’t this surprising and pretty weird.

Love & Hip Hop: NY star Erica Mena was in D.C. Friday night for a hosting gig at Bar 7. She wore a very pretty green dress that showed off her body, including what appears to be a pregnancy bump. The above Instagram picture was captioned with her saying, “Any questions?”

Actually, boo, we do have some questions and concerns.

This is the same Erica Mena who was caught getting into a huge catfight last week at a nail salon. It is pretty clear in these pictures that she and her friends are focusing our attention towards her belly which means she new she was with child whilst engaging in yet another embarrassing moment of her “losing her cool.”

This will make the second child for Erica.  She has a son from a previous relationship and if you watch the show, her parenting skills have often come into question.

But here’s the really odd part: According to The YBF, her manager and onscreen boyfriend Rich Dollaz seemed to know nothing about it.  When they got in touch with him about it, Rich replied:

“I don’t know about all the pregnancy rumors.  Erica was posting pics on IG from Bar 7 in DC and I’m in Houston.  So I guess a convo is def in order when we are back in NY.”

He also added that their on again-off again relationship is “mostly off these days.”

Now, it certainly isn’t unheard of that a relationship would be forged simply for show purposes; however, if they’ve spent any intimate time together over the past few months, there’s a chance he could be the father of this child.

So far, this sounds quite messy but seeing as though Erica appears to live for drama, this is right up her alley.

Since the show is still filming, there’s a strong possibility that we’ll see this whole pregnancy situation unfold right on the show.

Oh Love & Hip Hop, how you do go on…

Where Are They Now? The Women of “Real Chance of Love”

Hello Readers, you know we like to update you on some of the participants of past reality shows, and today is no different.  We’ve taken you through the gambit of the women of all three seasons of “Flavor of Love,” the men from the two seasons of “I Love New York,” the femmes of both seasons of “For the Love of Ray J,” and now we’re back with the women who bid for the attention of Real and Chance.

“Real Chance of Love” had its viewers, making it the highest rated show on VH1 both of the seasons that it aired, and with viewers came its criticizers.  People initially fell in love with the Givens brothers because they seemed so sweet and genuine on “I Love New York;” however, on their own shows they came off as immature, misogynistic, and disrespectful to some of the girls, “Real Chance of Love” turned into the show that people loved to hate, and continued to gain more viewers each episode.

So, who were these girls that vied for the  attention of the brothers who loved to wear empty holsters?  Where are they now, and really, can you blame them for wanting to get some of this?:

Really, Though? Who Died And Made You An Authority On What’s “Real”?

A few friends and I were discussing all the hilarious/crazy pictures and posts and rants and trending topics that we see on a daily basis via social media. Among the almost annoyingly frequent glut of pics and posts, we found that there is a trend of exclusivity. Various races, genders, music fans, sports lovers etc. seem to love telling others how real (or not) they are by their own standards:

“You’re a REAL Lakers fan if..”

“Only REAL Sistas [insert any number of actions]…”

“If you don’t know this song you’re not a REAL R&B fan…”

It’s a hit or miss situation. Sometimes they hit us with truth and it’s nothing but net, other times I’m looking around with a hardcore WTF! face thinking that folks need to just be benched for their crazy assessments of what constitutes “realness.” Today I shall call out my top 5 of the ridiculous “real” peddlers who haven’t quite thought through the BS they’re trying to sell. Don’t get your feathers all ruffled, just take a look and have a laugh:

A young Maya Angelou

It’s not often that celebrities let us inside their world, sure the paparazzi show them in some ordinary (or compromising) positions and they may occasionally share a personal detail or two in an interview; but rarely do celebrities bring the realness. Sharing their pain, their joy showing the world their authentic selves…as far as we can tell. While we understand and respect the need for celebrities to have privacy we appreciate the ones who aren’t scared to let people see them. Check it out.

As black women we love hair…even if it grows on the head of a man. While you might not date a man whose hair longer than yours, you still have to admire and admit it’s freshness. If you don’t admit that long hair on a man is eye catching, you might just be a little jealous. It’s ok girl, if you do the right thing you too might be able to achieve the shoulder length locks of the following celebrities.
