Building the Smart Grid Triggers Financing Debate
(Washington Post) — Michael Fold, a Baltimore area firefighter, never thought of himself as a “tree-hugger.” Sure, he recycled, but that was pretty much the extent of his eco-friendly efforts. That is until two years ago, when Baltimore Gas & Electric randomly selected him, along with 1,020 other customers, to participate in its smart grid pilot program aimed at reducing energy consumption.
Environmental Groups Map Course to Settle State’s Water Wars
(Atlanta Journal Constitution) — A consortium of Georgia environmental groups announced Thursday a strategy they say will help the next governor settle a 20-year battle with Florida and Alabama over the state’s water resources. Members of the Upper Chattahoochee, Flint and Coosa Riverkeeper organizations called on the state’s gubernatorial candidates to change course and get the issue resolved before metro Atlanta loses its primary source of water. Georgia is under a court mandate to either reach an agreement over downstream flows with its two neighbors or lose access to Lake Lanier as major water source.

The report provides valuable information about the water flowing from the Potomac River to taps throughout the District.
“Water is essential to everyday life, and we are committed to delivering high-quality drinking water that is protective of the public’s health,” said DC Water General Manager George S. Hawkins. “Accurate information empowers people to make important decisions about their tap water. It’s our goal to make sure everyone in the District knows they can be confident in, and proud of, their water supply.”
