When Florida high school senior, Nicole Muxo posted a video to YouTube asking her favorite NBA player Dwyane Wade to escort her to the senior prom, she never imagined that it would actually happen.

According to NBC’s South Florida affiliate, Muxo received the shock of her life last Friday when she received a call from Wade himself in the middle of the dance, apologizing for not being able to make it. While on the call, things got even more interesting when she learned that Wade had actually shown up to the celebration, ready to stand in as her prom date!

“So I talked to him on the phone, and as I was talking to him the doors opened and he walked out and I was completely shocked, I had no idea that he was going to even call,” Nicole said.

“So I was super-excited, everyone else was super-excited in there.”

Like a perfect gentlemen, Dwyane showed up with flowers, cut a little two-step on the dance floor and even posed for prom photos with Nicole and her date. He later joked that he was like a third wheel. It appears that her friends and the school’s staff called up Dwyane’s publicist and were able to pull some strings and make it happen for her.

“I’ve had people I’ve looked up to, people I’ve liked. A moment like this would’ve made my senior year, it would’ve made my life very memorable,” Wade said of his decision to grant Nicole’s wish.

“I’m just glad that we could make dreams come true,” he continued.

Dwyane later took to his Twitter and Instagram pages to thank her for such a great time.

“I had a blast at Prom w @nicole_muxo… Never be 2 scared to ask.. They might just say yes…#dreamsdocometrue,” he wrote.

Somebody looks fresh to death! Dressed in his black and red ensemble, this cute kid is the son of a famous R&B singer and an entrepreneur/reality TV personality mom, and if you look close enough, you can see that he’s the perfect fusion of both his mom and dad. His father allegedly has full custody of him, and is known for his success in the music industry during the late ’80s and early ’90s. He’s also been in a few R&B super-groups with other vocalists like Gerald Levert, and helped to discover groups like Silk and Ol’ Skool. His mom is, um…let’s just say a reality star who has dabbled in real estate, jewelry, makeup, and a whole bunch of other business ventures. She was married to the famous singer from ’92 to 2002, and the drama involving both parties played out on television. So, whose cute “kid,” aka teenager is this?

After our first piece on celebrities going to the prom seemed to get a big reaction, we thought, why not do it again? And luckily for us, there are a bevvy of throwback pictures still swarming the Internet. Enjoy yourself as you “oooooooooh,” “awwwwwwwwww” and laugh at some of our favorites when they were teenagers trying to be fly at prom.

At the age of 15, Tyra Banks had already started modeling seriously, but as her career started to grow, she didn’t let it keep her from being a regular “kid.” She stayed in school during her early modeling days and even found time to go to prom (with a pretty cute date). Check her fresh pose and the captivating stare at the camera. And I respect that even at prom, in the ’90s folks were still wearing pantyhose no matter what. My mother would be proud.

When I heard Carolyn Moos’ story, the woman who was engaged to gay, basketball player Jason Collins, I felt sorry for her but I couldn’t say I was exactly surprised. There are a lot of men, particularly black men, who are in severe denial about who they are. While Jason was wrong, he’s certainly not alone. I know that from personal experience. I’ve never been in a serious relationship with a gay man but in middle school and high school, the time when we become aware and start acting on our sexuality, three gay boys tried to date me.

I could take such advances as a threat to my womanhood; but instead, I realize the confusion and desperation these boys must have been feeling at the time. And for whatever reason, I was the “last resort” girl.

First there was Adam Baxter. I met Adam in 6th grade. He sang in choir with me and hung out with all girls except for one other boy, who we also assumed was gay…or at least bisexual. In addition to choir, Adam and I had a couple of classes together. We became fast friends because he was pretty hilarious. He’d literally sashay up to us, chest stuck out, wrist broken to share a quip, some gossip or a compliment about one of our outfits. And when our interactions were over, he’d swish away. These may sound like severely exaggerated characteristics, but I promise you that was his steelo. So imagine my surprise when one day, my friend told me that she and Adam were dating. Umm…ok. If she liked it, I loved it. After all, we were in sixth grade, the days when having a boyfriend was of supreme importance. I figured it was a relationship of convenience. It lasted a week.

Naturally, I assumed they broke up because she no longer wanted to date someone who was gay. But apparently, this wasn’t a conversation they’d ever had. Because two weeks later, as proper middle school dating decorum would dictate, Adam asked me out.

We were standing in the lunch line waiting for our tater tots and Fruitopia talking about something insignificant when all of a sudden Adam’s tone shifted. He looked in my eyes and said, “Veronica, do you want to go out with me?”  I couldn’t believe it. And before I even had time to give a polite response I blurted an appalled “No.” If I had any doubt that Adam wasn’t gay, his reaction to my rejection removed all doubt. The boy literally put his hand to his heart, dropped his jaw and said “Ugh.” I chuckled a bit to myself before I apologized and explained that I didn’t like him like that and we went back to being friends.

You could assume that Adam was just severely effeminate but by the time we got to high school, even though we went to separate schools, news of his “coming out” somehow made it back to me. Absolutely no surprise there.

After Adam there was Justin in 8^th grade. Just like Adam, Justin and I were really good friends. I didn’t know for sure that Justin was gay. I just knew that in 8^th grade, when the knuckleheads around me were trying desperately to assert their manhood, Justin was just a bit more sensitive. He asserted his like for me a little less aggressively. He sent an anonymous note that read:

Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet. Guess who likes you?

Looks like someone was allowed in T.I. and Tiny’s “white room” for her prom day. This fact alone makes this post worthwhile. T.I. don’t let nobody go in there; but when it’s prom time all the stops are pulled out. This weekend, Zonnique Pullins, T.I. and Tiny’s 17 year old daughter got to be an ordinary teenager for a minute when she attended prom.

She was escorted by rapper Rocko’s son, Malik. (You may remember that Rocko is also the former fiance and father of Monica’s two sons Romello and Rodney III.) Apparently, there’s absolutely no love lost and Monica considers Malik her son. See what she tweeted:

Malik later tweeted that he and Monica still have a tight relationship, explaining how he could text her all day and night.

That’s sweet!

We have to give it up to Miss Zonnique. This dress is too fab! I know some grown women, myself included, who wouldn’t mind wearing this gown. We’re actually a little surprised T.I. let her out the house without trying to throw a shawl over her chest. But she looks cute. The blue hair looks surprisingly good with the outfit and you can never go wrong with a red lip. Werk honey!

Within the next month or so (or maybe the prom race has already started for the teenagers in your neck of the woods), most high school juniors and seniors will trade in their uniforms and overpriced sneakers to play dress up for a night. That’s right, it’s prom season. We’ve all got our memories from trying to match our ensembles with our dates, kicking off heels we couldn’t walk in to jam on the dance floor, going to the most popular (but cheapest) restaurants in town to eat with friends, and sitting in nail salons and hair salons for hours trying to get our french rolls right and tight. Before they were famous, celebrities were out here doing the same exact thing for their big night. It’s just a bit more entertaining to look back at their prom night photos. So why don’t we do just that?

An 18-year-old West Bloomfield High School student didn’t waste any time nailing down his prom date for next year. The senior went straight to Twitter and hit up “Basketball Wives” star Evelyn Lozada figuring since she’s back on the market now she might be down for a return to her high school days and she actually said yes.

Anthony tweeted:

“Since your single now, wanna go to prom with me”

When Ev said yes, he replied:

“Never in my life have I been so happy”

Proving she’s not just all talk, Evelyn wrote about accepting the offer on her blog, writing:

I have to say that I’m very excited because I was just asked to the prom by one of my Twitter followers named Anthony and I gladly accepted!  The reason why I’m so excited is because I never had the opportunity to attend my own prom.  During that time of my life, I was becoming a teenage mom and pregnant with my daughter Shaniece.

I’m very happy to know that Anthony is attending his prom and graduating high school, what a beautiful accomplishment.  I encourage all of you to stay in school and attend college!  There is nothing better than having an education and bright future.

Though prom doesn’t take place until May 29, 2013, Anthony already has the color scheme planned out. He told Evelyn to wear a red dress because he’s going to be in black and white. Can’t knock a young man who knows what he wants and goes after it. Hopefully he and Evelyn have a good time together.

If you were one of those people worried for Lauryn Hill after finding out that her ex, and the father of five of her children, Rohan, was getting married to someone else, it looks like you have nothing to be worried about. In a recent picture of the mom and her kids, she and the brood are all smiles. The two oldest individuals on the far right are Nico and Eden, Rohan’s children from a previous relationship with “ex-wife” Geraldine Khawly. The others are Sarah (the cutie with the braids), Selah (in the striped shirt), Micah (being held), John and Joshua (in the far right). Little Micah is the baby boy that Hill had last year (he isn’t Rohan’s son). These kids are too cute! And may I add, Nico and Eden look exactly alike. Kind of cool, a little creepy, but very cute. And the Marley children aren’t the only ones who went on a vacation recently. Madonna and her growing family flew to Tel Aviv, Israel for her concert, and before her performance, her kids hit the beach. Her daughter, Mercy James, and son, David Banda Mwale Ciccone Ritchie, played around and seemed to have a good time while mom watched from the balcony above. Geez, I remember when these two were tiny! Time sure does fly…

We know all about Swizz Beatz’s sons, but have you had the chance to see his daughter, Nicole? The little girl is his daughter with singer/producer/actress Jahna Sebastian.  Nicole turned four on May 22, and to commemorate his daughter’s big day, he wished her happy birthday on Twitter: “Happy Bday to my Lil Queen #blessings #daddylove.” MAN, if Swizzy doesn’t have the strongest genes of all time…But anywho, check out photos the producer posted of his Minnie Mouse loving little one.

Nicole isn’t the only one who recently celebrated a birthday though. The daughter of another producer just turned 14! She is Shaniah Cymone Mauldin, the child of iconic producer Jermaine Dupri. He gushed on Twitter about his number one girl: “It’s my baby @shaniahcymone 14th birthday,omg !! I can’t believe it,I ❤u with all my ❤ Happy Birthday.” I remember how tiny this young lady used to be from her days posing with her pop in Apple Bottoms’ ads (the line for kids of course). These kids grow up so fast these days I tell ya…

And of course, we had to showcase Justin Combs (Diddy’s son with Misa Hylton) going off to prom recently. Diddy’s first-born son also just graduated from high school and is off to UCLA on a football scholarship in the fall, so big ups to him! The 18-year-old cutie went to prom in style, riding in a luxurious Rolls-Royce, and he took a very beautiful date who wore a vintage Gucci gown (though I must say, she looks MUCH older than 18, but whatever…). Cleveland Browns cornerback Joe Haden just became one of our favorite players in the game. The 23-year-old NFLer made one high school senior’s prom truly one of the most special nights of her life by being her date for the dance, and all she did was ask—on Twitter.

“[The tweet] just said, ‘Hey Joe, would you consider going to my senior prom with me because my date backed out and didn’t go,’ ” Independence High School student Joyce Grendel told Fox 8.

Within a few hours, she got the shock of her life—Joe responded with a “yes.”

The 18-year-old was understandably nervous as she got ready for her big date Saturday night, and Joe did not disappoint, picking her up from her home not in a customary limo, but in a white Lamborghini. And though he was the man everyone was looking for that night, Joe said it was a big night for him too because he never made it to his senior prom since he graduated early.

“I am nervous, too,” he told Fox. “We were taking pictures with me and her family. I feel this is very legit, like I was getting ready, ‘Does this look cool?’ when I’m getting ready. I feel like I’m very legit. This is my prom, too.”

Though it seems like a far stretch that a pro athlete would take a random girl to prom, Joe and Joyce have a little history, at least as far as fandom goes. Prom actually wasn’t the first time Joyce and her friend, Lacey, who accompanied them to the dance with her own date, met Joe.

“I knew her because she tweets me a lot, and she’s been a really good Haden Nation supporter. All my autographs, all my signings, she always shows up, and Lacey,” he said.

Even Joyce’s dad felt like his daughter couldn’t have had a better date for the night.

“We met him last year. As a matter of fact, the kids went bowling with him downtown. You couldn’t find a nicer guy. I talked to him a little bit there. He’s not different than any of us; he’s just a quality guy.”
