‘Paris Is Burning’: Diddy ‘borrows’ title from documentary on NYC LGBT culture

From TheGrio.com

Rapper turned business mogul Sean “P. Diddy” Combs has never been shy about his affinity for opulence. He’s been bragging about his bank roll for years (in songs like Notorious B.I.G.’s “Mo Money Mo Problems”), and he even named his latest attempt at the next best thing in music Dirty Money. So it’s no surprise that the trend continues with his latest creative project, Paris Is Burning, a short documentary film about extravagance.

Diddy released the first trailer yesterday, shot by French director Julien Bachelet. The 1 minute clip follows the Ciroc owner through a maze of screaming paparazzi as he hops in and out of his limo to attend a fashion show, shop for Rolex watches, and simply enjoy the life his wealth affords him.

As he shops, he muses to the camera, “I’m fresh out the store, you see how we do it… collecting Rollies…. I’m a have over 100 Rollies within the next month.”

I don’t know about you, but from what I’ve seen of Elle Varner so far, I’m loving her! She’s extremely talented (she can play multiple instruments and has a wonderful voice), and her songwriting is so cute easy to relate to that you can’t help but jam with her. And that’s very true when it comes to her new video for her track, “Refill.”

In the video, she’s part of a summertime cheer squad who comes for a short visit to NYC for a competition. And although her coach says the girls have to stay in on their last night, she runs out and has an adventure…oh, an adventure indeed. She meets a FINE a** dude and their broke behinds go on a joy ride, dine and dash and then have to part in the morning as she sadly leaves NYC. It’s both hilarious and cute at the same time. And can we talk about dude’s LIPS??? I was so distracted the first time I watched this, lol. There was no way I would have left him without him knowing all my information. But you judge for yourself. Check out the fun video below and the dope track and let us know your thoughts. I’m pretty sure this will be your springtime late night jam *smiles*

So is it a pass or play for you?

"Eva Marcille"

When you get to wear such fab outfits on the runway as a job, how hard could it be for a model to put together a few colorful and fun pieces and make them look good? In some cases, it’s very easy (Kate Moss), other times, it’s very hard (I love Jessica White but sometimes her looks can be a bit sloppy). So, with that, lets see if model Eva Marcille’s looks are hot to trot, or a hot mess.

Style to Steal or Girl, Stop: Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj & Tamar Braxton

It’s a new day, and alas, it is time to celebrate or skewer the style moves of our favorite celebs. So let’s not waste any time!

Mariah Carey

Well, well, well…someone may have lost a crazy amount of weight in a short time, but I see the momma of #dembabies hasn’t lost her penchant for spandex everything. Carey showed up at a Jenny Craig event today, touting her new role as the brand’s ambassador, in this long spaghetti-strapped number in a strawberry red. No belt, no necklace on top of it, no flash…She wore the dress with strappy platform heels in a red that I must admit is a bit darker than her dress, and finished the look with some bright bling on her fingers and some hoop earrings. The hair stayed down with a good ‘ol middle part and some soft curls near her ends, and the makeup was chill. So uh…doesn’t Mariah have money? Sorry if I sound like a jack butt, but ever since she decided to start dressing more risque as her age has increased, her style has been all spandex, all the time. I know this chick’s body is smoking right now, so why not do better than this? We know it’s just a Jenny Craig event, but damn…Sorry boo, congrats on the weight loss, but I’m going to have to give this a girl, stop.

Tamar Braxton

In NYC yesterday for the premiere of season two of Braxton Family Values, little sis Tamar had all eyes on her (probably because Toni didn’t show up…) in this fanciful blue number. It’s a different look, I’ll give her that. I see that she’s trying to go for an edgy look, and she seems pretty satisfied and confident in it. But there is A LOT going on right now. The dress seems to be a light blue flirty cocktail number that’s ruffled at the bottom and comes in at the waist. The shirt underneath it (which could be attached) is a royal blue sheer top with a tie at the neck. She has on some ornate black tights underneath her blueberry look, and kicks it in white and black booties that have a zipper detail and show off a little toenail. She finishes it all off with beaded bangles, a big ‘ol watch and some straight hair with choppy bangs. Whew! Real talk, everything might work if the pieces for this ‘fit were worn SEPARATELY. Until that happens, this chick gets a girl, stop for trying her hardest to look like an A-list celeb in a Rainbow outfit.

Nicki Minaj

COLOR! That’s what I think when I look at this get-up. Last night, Minaj hit up the Versace for H&M show in NYC, where she also performed to help launch the fashion house’s partnership with the popular retailer. She showed up in true Nicki form: as always, big, BIG hair, and big ‘ol heels. This time though, the ‘fit wasn’t as horrid as you would think. Rocking what looked to be a Versace combination, she wore a long sleeve rhinestone embellished top with open slits around the shoulders. The bottoms to the outfit were similar: fitted, colorful, adorned with flowery details and of course, there were more rhinestones. She kicked up her heels in sky-high color-block stilettos, wore big baubles on her fingers, a large cat choker around her neck, and some more jewels atop her bangs. You will be shocked, but I give this a style to steal. While I wouldn’t wear something like this the way she did, this is definitely one of Minaj’s better looks. Instead of putting any ‘ol thing together per the usual, this actually matches in some way. I don’t know the way, but you can figure that out. I say just ditch that big a** wig (we couldn’t get the cute bob?), the tacky choker and we’ve got a winner…

Which looks do you like? Which do you loathe?

It Figures: Guy Creeps into Student’s Dorm Room and Touches Her Hair

"Guy breaks into dorm room"

Student Alia Callens

There are too many crazy and creepy folks roaming the streets. I know I’m not the only one that has noticed the large string of sexual assaults being reported lately. Scary. While you should definitely be on the look out when you are outside, it sucks to think that these creepers are finding their way into people’s homes! Case in point: Alia Callens. Callens, a student at the American Music and Dramatic Academy in NYC, woke up in her Upper West Side dorm room on October 7 to find a strange man standing next to her bed, staring at her. The student says the only reason he was able to get in, or so she thinks, was because she fell asleep while studying and forgot to lock the door.

This is what she told CBS New York happened next: “He kept petting my hair and I turned on my curling iron and then he started to unzip his pants and I was like, ‘Okay, you need to leave right now.”

Where did she grab that curling iron from??? Anywho, she must have snapped on him something serious because it seems the guy left just before she had to have an out-of-body experience with him. Callens said that the intruder was a white male, 25 years of age with a blue hooded sweatshirt on, jeans and sneakers. The student says that though the incident was no joke, she’s all good. “I freaked out, but I’m good now. I just want everyone to be safe and lock their doors and stuff.” She sure is calm. But she’s also very, VERY blessed because who knows how that scenario really could have played out. Lock your doors people! And it never hurts to keep a shank around…(seriously.) Quick observation though: isn’t it interesting that he went for the sistah’s hair? VERY interesting…

Mikki’s Artist Spotlight: Celebrity Hairstylist Nadia Vassell

Chances are, you have admired Nadia Vassell’s work on one of your favorite stars and didn’t know it. Celebrity hairstylist, salon owner and entrepreneur, Nadia Vassell  has an impressive client list that includes Rihanna, Chrisette Michelle, Ashanti and Tika Sumpter. She is a trendsetter and innovator in the beauty industry. Armed with beauty and brains, she is much more than meets the eye.

Sporting a bad weave is letting the beauty “secret” out of the bag. Luckily, Nadia has a solution. Known for her mastery in weaving, Nadia is regarded for her braiding technique that allows her to create extremely natural looking extensions. After becoming frustrated with the lack of quality human hair she kept seeing on people’s heads, she decided to take matters into her own hands and start working some mircales. NV Hair Extensions is her premium hair extensions line that is available online at  http://www.nadiavassell.com. And on top of supplying folks with the hair they need, she fixes the messes you make on your own hair. Vassell thinks the “do-it-yourself” method is okay, but there’s just so much you can do on your own before you tear up your hair:

“I think the mistake that most women make with their own hair is believing in the do-it-yourself method,” says Nadia. “Women who opt to doing their hair themselves might be causing more damage to their hair. Ultimately, they have to visit the salon professional to fix the problem they have caused to their own hair.” If you are guilty of this, grab a hat or a scarf and head over to  The Nadia Vassell Salon located in Manhattan’s Lower East Side for a quick fix.

Foxy Brown Plans to Sue City of NY for Taking Her to Task For Her Foolishness

July 15th, 2011 - By Victoria Uwumarogie

Talk about someone needing something better to do with their time…

After years of hearing about rapper Foxy Brown, aka Inga Marchand, being sued and arrested, jailed, arrested again and then sued, homegirl wants some payback for the fact that prosecuters recently pressed charges against her for allegedly mooning her neighbor. The same neighbor she hit in the face with a BlackBerry that wound up putting her in Rikers Island for violating her prior probation. The charges for this little supposed behind-revealing encounter however, were dropped. So not only is she hoping to sue, but Brown would be suing for a whopping $100 million dollars (COUNT IT!) for her supposed suffering. I don’t see girlfriend getting a red cent from the city. If you ask me, she should be glad and feel blessed that the case was dismissed, and use it as a sign that she either needs to get her life together or just please, please sit down somewhere!

To hear why her mooning case was dismissed and to learn more about why she is suing, check out AOL’s Black Voices for the full story.
