During an interview with People magazine, “Glee” star Naya Rivera discusses her latest work, a memoir “Sorry Not Sorry.” In the interview the actress discusses her decision to have an abortion about six years ago. At the time, Naya had learned she was expecting while she was dating actor Ryan Dorsey, who is now her husband. The couple had just split because she wanted to focus on her career, and it would be her career that would drive her next choice. The decision to terminate the pregnancy would be made by Naya alone, and she would go on to make her appointment, and have her procedure alone as well.
Now that she and Ryan are married with an 11-month-old son, Naya told People, “It’s not something a lot of people talk about, but I think they should. I know some people might read it and say, ‘What the hell?’ But I hope someone out there gets something out of it.”
Though it is rarely spoken of, this is not an unfamiliar tale. Countless women have chosen their career over motherhood. Some women feel they can’t be successful in their careers, and as mothers. Maybe they were on the brink of a promotion, and felt they couldn’t risk slowing down. Maybe their position required a lot of travel, and there would be no way they could leave their munchkin behind.
Whatever the reason, it’s ok.
It’s ok that the choice to advance your career and accomplish all your professional goals trumped your desire for a family.
It’s ok if you want to see all the world has to offer before you are hopping flights with more than a trendy bag as a carry on.
More often than not, women are shamed for not rushing into motherhood. You know what I’m talking about. You show up to the family reunion and everyone is asking when you’re going to settle down. Everytime you go back home to visit, despite being single your grandmother keeps asking when your going to have a baby. Whatever your reply, it is countered with, “You don’t have much time,” “you need a man,” “your career won’t keep you warm at night” etc.
Women who are single, successful and childless are not to be pitied. They are living the lives they have thoughtfully chosen for themselves. Naya is an example of the sacrifices that come with the pursuit of a dream. I can only assume, but I’m sure the decision wasn’t easy. I absolutely think she should have clued her then boyfriend, now husband, in on her plans. Although the decision ultimately rests in a woman, as a man whom may or may not become a father, being informed is important.
What would you do in this situation? Have you had to make a huge sacrifice for your career? Comment below and tell us all about it!
After just six months of marriage, Naya Rivera and Ryan Dorsey are expecting their first child together. The “Glee” actress made the announcement on Instagram last night before directing fans to her website, which provided a more formal statement.
“Surprise! We’re having a baby,” Rivera informed fans. “Ryan and I feel so blessed and can’t wait to welcome the newest member of our family.”
It’s unclear how far along the expectant parents are into their pregnancy. Rivera and Dorsey secretly married last summer only three months after her engagement to Big Sean ended. It was rumored that she wore the same gown and maintained the same wedding date and venue that was lined up for her nuptials to Sean. However, this has never been confirmed.
Ironically, just yesterday Big Sean was mulling over the idea of having kids within the next five years—and he didn’t seem quite ready to take the leap into fatherhood just yet.
“Kids? Five years? I do want kids. Yeah, I definitely want kids. I want a family,” he expressed.
Messiness aside, babies are always a blessing so congrats to the parents to be!

After watching Amber Rose put Khloe Kardashian, Kylie Jenner and the whole Kardashian clan in their place earlier this week, it made me think of the many other times that the family (and their friends/flunkies) have gone up against their detractors over things they’ve found disrespectful. Considering how much people have to say about this family, you think they would be involved in Twitter beefs every week. But after doing some thinking, and digging, there haven’t been that many public squabbles–but I would say at least 11. Here are people who’ve had beef with the Kardashians over the years, and some of the names might surprise you.
The Detroit rapper appears on the cover of Complex magazine this month and inside, he’s addressing quite a bit about their troubled road to matrimony, which luckily for the both of them, hit a major roadblock.
First of all, he’s denying rumors that he had been unfaithful to Naya. Instead, he insists that the relationship came to an end because they began to argue more than they did anything else.
While he declined to comment on rumors that Naya was overly controlling and jealous, he was open to addressing her claims that he stole a Rolex from her.
“First of all, why would I have to steal a Rolex?” he questioned. “Second of all, every Rolex that I have, I have receipts for, papers for, certificates of authenticity for. I would never steal a Rolex from anybody. You see that tweet got deleted in like 20 seconds.”
“I felt like it was unnecessary drama ‘cause in my eyes it wasn’t true. I wasn’t surprised by it,” he laughed. “Even though I didn’t steal anything, I wasn’t surprised by it.”
Of course, Naya’s post break-up behavior left many wondering whether or not she acted out that way during their relationship. He wouldn’t directly answer the question, but challenged readers to draw their own conclusions based on the evidence.
“You can come to that conclusion yourself if you just look at the facts,” he said before releasing a chuckle.
He also claims that he didn’t write “IDFWU” with Naya in mind; however, he confessed that the line about dodging “a bullet from a crazy b-tch” was spawned from their split.

Naya Rivera has somehow managed to place her foot in her mouth again. But don’t worry, she’s trying to fix it. The sometimes unlikable “Glee” actress recently stepped in as a guest host on “The View” and while discussing a study about how frequently dermatologists recommend showering, she proceeded to express that “ethnics” don’t shower every day.
“I think White people shower a lot more than ethnics. I feel like showering more than once a day or every day is such a White people thing,” she said during the televised appearance.
She then attempted to clarify her comments, but at that point, the thoughtless words had already left her mouth and they were difficult to take back.
“My mom is half Black, half Puerto Rican. She showers every day, so I can say this. But I’m now married to a white man,” she said referencing her husband Ryan Dorsey. “And he showers a lot, like two, three times a day…I’m like, ‘What are you doing?’”
After social media ripped her a new one over the remarks, she returned to the daytime talk show as a guest host and attempted to recant her statement. She now insists that it was all a joke.
“Yesterday we were talking about a study that says you’re supposed to shower once or twice every three days. I had an opinion on it that was supposed to be a joke. Apparently it didn’t go over so well.”
“I apologize if anyone was offended.”
Watch her apology here.
I wish I’d known that Naya Rivera was so…interesting before now. Then perhaps I wouldn’t have been so intrigued by her relationship with Big Sean. Instead, I would have sent “run” vibes into the atmosphere, hoping that he got the message.
If you’re wondering what I’m talking about, Naya Rivera appeared on “The View” earlier today to discuss hygiene habits. And the 28-year-old actress shared a backwards azz theory about showering among racial and ethnic groups.
“I think White people shower a lot more than ethnic. I feel like showering more than once a day or every day is such a White people thing.”
And just like you are right now, several of the audience members were thinking WTF Naya… Particularly one Black woman who could attest to the fact that she does indeed shower daily.
Then Naya sought to clarify her remarks.
“My mom is half black, half Puerto Rican. She showers every day, so I can say this. But I’m now married to a white man,” she said referencing her husband Ryan Dorsey. “And he showers a lot, like two, three times a day…I’m like, ‘What are you doing?'”
Girl, you are talking about one White man. And I’d be willing to bet that he’s in the minority.
Perhaps Naya’s hubby is doing a bit too much with 2-3 showers a day. But if Naya is taking a shower once or twice every three days, she needs to do better.
MadameNoire recently told readers Naya Rivera agrees with Mary J. Blige about their husbands not being able to have female friends. Doesn’t that sound controlling much? But they’re not alone. MN compiled a list of 10 women who are holding on too tight to their men. Some of these celebrity wives and girlfriends are jealous or insecure and the others just keep their men on leashes.
“Sorry Ladies, But You Got To Get Back”: Naya Rivera Stands With Mary J Blige, Doesn’t Want Husband To Have Female Friends
We told you yesterday that Mary J. Blige said, in her marriage, she and Kendu Isaacs don’t do the whole friends of the opposite sex thing. As she told Stella Magazine, in a marriage, it’s not a good look:
“All females for me, all guys for him. There’s none of that, ‘Oh, that’s my female friend. Oh, that’s my guy friend.’ No, not in a marriage, I’ve never seen that work.”
While sitting in as guest co-host on “The View” this week, Naya Rivera was asked her thoughts on Blige’s statements now that she is married to husband Ryan Dorsey, and she actually agreed, saying that by having friends of the opposite sex, you might take your issues to them, instead of hashing them all out with your partner:
“I think that’s amazing. I’m with Mary. I just got married and I’m pretty sure I told my husband that like two days ago.”
When the audience clapped, she was surprised.
“I really didn’t think I would get support on that, thank you so much. It’s really not so much a rule as I understand it, because I feel like you’re playing with fire and opening up the floodgates here, and you’re having issues in your marriage, but someone is going to talk to the opposite sex to get advice or whatever and you should be talking to your partner. So I don’t believe in it.
I feel like there’s a difference between having an issue with that when you’re married and when you’re just dating someone. I feel like when you’re married, if you’re now someone’s wife, I’m sorry, ladies, but you got to get back a little bit more. It’s different.”
Rivera also briefly spoke on that lashing she took from people, including Jonathan Cheban, for criticizing Kim Kardashian’s Paper magazine cover. After Whoopi Goldberg showed all the parodies of Kardashian’s magazine cover, Rivera pointed out that she obviously wasn’t the only person who had something to say about the controversial cover:
“People kind of really cared a lot…I do want to point out that was Miley Cyrus making fun of that. I didn’t know if I was the only person who had anything to say about this.”
But back to the matter at hand, what are thinking of Rivera’s statements about having friends of the opposite sex outside of marriage? As I said before, I’m all for keeping the friends you made before and during your years dating, but I don’t see the point in trying to create new friendships with men and women of the opposite sex once you’re married. But no friends of the opposite sex at all, even from the past? I don’t know about all that…
Kim Kardashian’s Bestie Shades The Hell Out Of Naya Rivera Following Paper Mag Diss: “Naya Has Always Been A Step Behind”
Update 4:53 p.m.: Kim has not responded to Naya’s scolding, but her best friend Jonathan Cheban has. In a blog post titled, “We Don’t F-ck With You,” Jonathan called Naya out for her alleged obsession with Kim. His entry reads:
“Naya has always been a step BEHIND… And this time she has seriously fallen BEHIND like Daylight Savings Time! After a year-long tour of impersonating Kim, she decided to come out of her shell and make a real statement about Kim’s Paper cover (which has to be one of the hottest, if not the hottest cover all year).
As expected, she’s getting some press and when all else fails, use Kim. I’m personally disgusted that after badgering Kim all year and trying to hang out and do business together, she goes and tries to make a statement like this.
Yes, Kim is a mother, BUT WHO CARES… have you ever heard of a MILF?! The world wants to see her all day like 1010 Wins. Paper is one of the artsiest magazines and has a legendary reputation for being creative and edgy. Who the f*ck is Naya to throw in her meaningless comments??”
In addition to likening the “Glee” actress to the lead character in Single White Female, Jonathan also shared several side-by-side photos, which he believes proves that Naya is trying her hardest to be Kim.
You can check out his full response here.
Yesterday evening while you were probably unwinding and preparing for the work day ahead, Kim Kardashian and Paper Magazine were conspiring to “break the internet.” At approximately 8:00 p.m., the publication decided to unveil the cover of their Winter 2014 issue, which features a nude pin-up girl-style photo of Mrs. West. Kim also excitedly took to social media to share the cover images with fans.

Naturally, reactions to the risqué cover were mixed, but a lot of folks were not here for it—including Kim’s alleged wannabe, Naya Rivera.
“I normally don’t. But…you’re someone’s mother…” Naya commented beneath Kim’s bare-booty photo.
Paper magazine also caught a bit of backlash for publishing the racy photo.

So what do you think of the cover? Are you surprised that Kim is still out here flaunting her naked tail or are you used to it by now?

Not only has Big Sean released a song not so subtly titled “I Don’t Fu*k With You” to let the world know that he doesn’t mess with a certain someone anymore, he’s also released an official photo editor.
— Big Sean (@BigSean) October 9, 2014
The photo editor allows you to upload a photo of you and the person you no longer mess with, and blur their face out. It also stamps the photo with the hashtag #IDFWU. The images are collected into a gallery and it seems like people are having a lot of fun with it. Maybe it’s someone you don’t like, something you don’t eat, something you won’t wear. You can digitally let the world know that uh uh, you don’t f with with.
Since the song’s release there’s been strong speculation that Sean is venting about his former fiancee Naya Rivera. The song has taken off online with over five million plays on Soundcloud and providing the sound in many in popular viral Vine videos. The hashtag #IDFWU might just be working its way up to #YOLO status.
