WTH!? Cult Leader Pleads Guilty to Killing Woman And a 4-Year-Old Boy He Thought Was Gay

If you had any doubt that people are still creating and running religious cults these days, this story is proof that they are thriving, and some of the sickest of people are leading them. Peter Lucas Moses is a 27-year-old man, and polygamist, who is the leader of a radical religious group made up of a number of women and young children, most of the women he had been involved with, and eight of the nine children were his. According the Associated Press, the group was called the Black Hebrews, individuals “whose members believe they have descended directly from the ancient tribes of Israel.” While living with Moses, the women and children were said to call Moses, “Lord,” and he and these individuals all shared a one-bedroom home in Durham, N.C. There were nine children in the home, including Jadon Higganbothan, the son of one of Moses’ “wives,” Vania Sisk. He was the only child in the home who wasn’t blood to Moses. The 4-year-old boy became a threat to Moses and his group after the man claimed he allegedly saw Higganbothan hit the backside of another young boy, and was also suspicious because the father of the young boy left Sisk and Higganbothan high and dry. Because of these incidents, Moses came to the conclusion that Higganbothan was gay, and of course, homosexuality is something the group was very much against. With what seems like no opposition from his mother, Moses took the young boy into the garage, played the Lord’s prayer, and then shot Higganbothan in the head. His body was disposed of in a garbage bag and buried in a shallow grave in the backyard of Sheilda Moses, the mother of Peter Lucas Moses.

Moses also claimed responsibility for the murder of Antoinetta Yvonne McKoy, a woman staying in the home who wanted out. According to WRAL-TV, she had a romantic relationship with Moses as well. When she tried to flee the home and seek help from a neighbor, asking them to let her use the phone, McKoy was dragged back home by other “wives” of Moses, and the neighbor did NOT call police. She was then beaten by them, taken to a bathroom, and again, religious music was played, and ironically, she was shot by Vania Sisk, the mother of little Jadon Higganbothan. McKoy’s body was also disposed of as she was wrapped in multiple trash bags and put in the backyard of Peter Lucas Moses’ mother’s home.

Moses - Source: newsobserver.com

The Black Hebrew’s leader plead guilty to two counts of first-degree murder, taking responsibility for both deaths as prosecutors said they were done because Moses wanted to preserve the sanctity of his group. Prosecutors hope to seek out the death penalty against Moses, and he’s being held without bond. On top of that, Moses’ brother and sister, as well as his “wife,” Lavada Harris, were charged as accessories in McKoy’s death, while Vania Sisk and two other women were who lived in the home were charged with murder and as accessories in Higganbothan’s death. If you were wondering how all this came to the attention of police since that shady neighbor didn’t call them, a young woman who lived in the home at one time allegedly escaped and was able to alert police of the murders in the small Durham home that belonged to Moses. The eight children left that stayed in the home are now in the custody of social services and are said to be very scared of Moses.

I really don’t have too much commentary to add to this story because it completely shocked and disgusted me. Let’s just hope that this innocent young man, who probably knew nothing yet of the difference between being “straight” and “gay,” as well as McKoy, get some justice for these heinous crimes. And to use religion and the Lord as a reason to do things like this always irks me to no end. This is just an all around sad and crazy story.

All Grown Up and In Trouble: ‘Hughleys’ Child Star Charged With Murder

Dee Jay Daniels is clearly not the little 9-year-old we remember as Michael Hughley on D.L. Hughley’s late ’90s sitcom. At 23 years old, Dee Jay is currently facing charges of street terrorism, premeditated murder and attempted premeditated murder stemming from gang activity in California.

Dee Jay, whose full name is Dorjan Lyndell Daniels, is a suspected member of the Bloods gang, and in August 2011, he and two other men allegedly stabbed 26-year-old John Joseph outside a nightclub in Stockton, CA. The attack was expected to be a rival altercation between the Bloods and the Crips.

Arrest records show Dee Jay is being held without bail in San Joaquin County Jail and he has been ever since August 6, the afternoon after the attack. Dee Jay’s next court date is tomorrow at 8:30 am but with a charge like this it doesn’t appear he’ll be going anywhere anytime soon. Who would’ve thought Michael Hughley would grow into this?

Here’s a news report from when the attack first happened last summer.

Justice For Jennifer Hudson & Family: J. Hud’s Ex Brother-In-Law Found Guilty

After 15 hours of deliberation, it appears that justice has been served. William Balfour, Jennifer Hudson’s ex brother-in-law, was found guilty yesterday in a Chicago court in the murders of Hudson’s mother, brother and nephew.  He was also convicted of all other counts which include home invasion, armed robbery and kidnapping and could face up to life in prison.

The jury was originally split in their decision but commented during their post-trial interview that three of the jurors just needed more information and to “see the picture a little clearer.”  After retrieving more information about Balfour’s whereabouts and using his cell phone to help it make more sense, they went back into deliberations and came up with a unanimous decision in under three hours.

For her part, Jennifer attended the trial everyday and gave her testimony when called onto the witness stand. Jurors mentioned that while they were aware of her fame, it did not sway them because the trial was not about her. One juror, Tracie Austin, said Jennifer didn’t say anything that was crucial to the case.  Balfour’s attorney, Amy Thompson, even agreed that she didn’t think Jennifer’s celebrity mattered and that the jury was paying attention to what was happening in the actual trial, not the comings and goings of what else was surrounding them.

Jennifer and her sister Julia, who is Balfour’s ex, released a statement thanking everyone for their support:

“We have felt the love and support of from people all over the world and we’re very grateful. We want to extend a prayer from the Hudson family to the Balfour family. We have all suffered terrible loss in this tragedy.  It is our prayer that the Lord will forgive Mr. Balfour f these heinous acts and bring his heart into repentance someday.”

The Chicago Tribune has lots more information regarding the case.

We know that not even a guilty verdict can heal the hurt but hopefully, it brings the family some sense of peace.

Bill Cosby Says Guns to Blame For Trayvon Martin Murder, Not Racism

The legendary comedian made several appearances on television last week, including stopping to do “Press Pass” (an extension of “Meet the Press”) with David Gregory, and also sat down for an interview with CNN. For both interviews, he talked about his thoughts on the murder of Trayvon Martin, among other things, and let it be known that the real problem in this situation is gun violence in general, not racism and racial profiling.

While on “Press Pass,” this is what he had to say on the topic:

“It’s about the gun. It’s about this gun. Guns in this country…When you have a gun, you may not realize it, but you put it on your person and you mean to pull this and kill somebody. That’s what you mean to do…You provoke with a gun. You have this power. You have this thing on you. It heightens what you’re supposed to be looking for.

You’re going to profile anyway, if you’re going to profile. But if you have this, it provokes a feeling.”

And when he sat down with CNN, he let it be known that he feels a gun in the wrong hands is what is responsible for this young man’s death, and calling Zimmerman a racist doesn’t change anything.

“When a person has a gun, sometimes their mind clicks that this thing will win arguments and straighten people out. In the wrong hands and the wrong mind, it’s death…What is solved by saying, ‘He’s a racist. That’s why he shot the boy.’ What solves that?”

And while he’s not trying to take away anyone’s rights to have a licensed firearm, he believes those who want to own guns need to be trained beforehand on how to use them and be “checked” out. Clearly, not everyone is capable of handling one and being responsible with said firearm.

“You’ve got to protect yourself in your own home, but I also believe that when you tell me that you’re going to protect the neighborhood that I live in, I don’t want you to have a gun,” Cosby said. “I want you to be able to see something, report it and get out of the way.”

After Cosby shared his comments earlier last week, some folks weren’t feeling them. They felt saying the race equation needed to be taken out of the picture was irresponsible, especially since a lot of evidence seems to point to the fact that Martin’s race was why Zimmerman found him to be suspicious. Writer and television personality, Touré, who says Bill Cosby is “rather misguided about the black community,” went on MSNBC recently and said that Cosby’s comments were very dangerous.

“Trayvon Martin was clearly profiled as a criminal black man…that’s why he [George Zimmerman] pulled his gun and used it on Trayvon. When a person of Bill Cosby’s stature comes out publicly and says it’s not a race issue, it’s a gun issue, it gives fuel to all those who misunderstand the situation…And he’s giving fuel to those people to say, “See look, even Bill Cosby agrees with us.”

But Cosby might have a point. Of course, racism is still an issue in this case, but I think we all know guns, both illegal and legal, are doing more harm than good these days, making them a huge problem as well.  And Cosby knows the effects of gun violence, as his son, Ennis, was shot and killed while trying to change his tire in a robbery attempt in 1997. Guns make the weakest people brave, as was the case with Zimmerman. He thought he was going to be able to handle the situation, despite the dispatcher saying NOT to follow Martin, but if he hadn’t had the gun, how would this incident really have turned out?

Do you agree with Cosby or do you agree with Touré in saying that Mr. Cosby has it backwards? Check out clips from their performances below:

Robert Zimmerman Jr. Claims Trayvon “Snuck Up” on George in Piers Morgan Interview

March 30th, 2012 - By Victoria Uwumarogie

Source: The Hollywood Reporter

Seems like everyone wants to act like they have some sort of insight on what happened on Feb. 26, the night George Zimmerman shot and killed Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Fl. One of those people is now George’s brother Robert, who appeared on “Piers Morgan Tonight” to say that his brother had no choice but to shoot Martin, and that the young man snuck up on him.

“He did not follow nor did he ever catch up to Mr. Martin,” says Zimmerman. “If he were really being pursued, I don’t know how he wouldn’t have been able to make it home. What has come out that I can talk about today, is that Trayvon Martin somehow snuck up on him…Trayvon went up to George and said the first thing to George.”

He also touched on the fact that everyone is questioning the claim that Zimmerman was beaten by Martin and had to shoot him in self-defense, especially since video after the incident with Zimmerman in custody shows him with no visible wounds on the back of his head or damage done to his nose:

“To me, his nose looks swollen in that video.”

Honestly…I can’t see crap on that video. But that’s just me. In the end, Robert sums up his brother’s use of deadly force like this:

“He prevented his firearm from being taken from him and used against him, and that’s called saving your life.”

I’m not feeling Robert’s story, especially the part in the video where he says it was Robert screaming in the call to police by a neighbor. “Despite those screams, no one came to his aid. Those screams could have avoided what eventually George had to do to defend his life.”

I don’t see how Martin could have “snuck up” on Zimmerman and done any real harm to him when all he Martin had on him was a pack of Skittles and some tea.  Oh yeah…he was really going to do some damage to a man with a gun. It’s  clear that George Zimmerman went looking for trouble, and though he was told not to pursue Martin, he did anyway, and that could have been avoided. So forget what the neighbors should have done Robert–if George hadn’t felt the need to go all vigilante and go against police orders, then I’m pretty sure Martin’s murder wouldn’t ever have happened. What he says changes nothing…

Check out the video and let us know what you think of this new “side” of the story:

Real Talk: It’s Not About A Hoodie

March 23rd, 2012 - By Brande Victorian

Source: Centric TV

In all the articles I’ve read on the Trayvon Martin case, there’s one comment that has stuck out to me more than any. I can’t even remember the article or the person’s username, just the blatant lack of acknowledgement of any wrongdoing by this reader who urged news outlets to show pictures of what Trayvon Martin was wearing the night of February 26 when he was shot dead, not the angelic photos now being passed around of the 17-year-old boy.

I was furious, and for some reason shocked, although that type of racist insensitivity shouldn’t have surprised me. After all, the discussion had arisen out of a situation in which a neighborhood watchman was sitting free in the comfort of his home inside a gated Florida community after he’d just gunned down an unarmed “suspicious” black boy walking home with skittles and an iced-tea in his pockets. I’d let the anger at the reader’s insinuation that Trayvon was somehow responsible for his death go as new details in the case gave me new reasons to be upset—911 tapes, a reporter asking if Trayvon ate chicken, a girlfriend recounting his last minutes alive—but today Geraldo Rivera reignited the same fury I felt the day this boy’s apparel was first brought up as a justification for his death and I cried over this situation for the first time.

In an effort to somehow identify with the anger and frustration the black community is feeling over this case, Geraldo talked about not allowing his brown-skinned Latino son wear hoodies, and says plainly, “His hoodie killed Trayvon Martin as surely as George Zimmerman did.”

“No one black, brown or white can honestly tell me that seeing a kid of color with a hood pulled over his head doesn’t generate a certain reaction, sometimes scorn, often menace,” he wrote for Fox News Latino.

“When you see that kid coming your way, unless you specifically recognize him you are thinking ghetto or ghetto wannabe high-style or low-brow wise-A$$. Pedestrians cross the street to avoid black or brown hoodie wearers coming their way…

“Whatever Reverends Sharpton and Jackson say in Florida Friday, after listening to the 911 tapes and hearing the witness’ testimonials, I believe Trayvon Martin would be alive today but for his hoodie.”

Regardless of whether Geraldo is right about the reaction seeing a hoodie causes, there is no room for victim-blaming or distraction from the real criminal in this murder case. I won’t lie, the more I read about Trayvon Martin I thought, what if he didn’t have on that hoodie, what if black men didn’t always have on those damn hoodies. Would the suspicions go away? I didn’t ask the question because I was worried about black men making white or Hispanic people uncomfortable, I asked because I wanted them to be safe. I even engaged in my own chicken and the egg discussion: What came first, black men wearing hoodies as part of their own day-to-day style or hoodies becoming the apparel of choice for anyone who was about to commit a crime? I quickly removed myself from that thought though because discussions about what ifs only distract from what was and the answer truly doesn’t matter because this is not about a hoodie, this is about the skin tone of the boy in the hoodie and the assumptions about who he was based on his presence in an area where the majority of people didn’t look like him.

The suggestion that Trayvon essentially committed suicide by wearing a hoodie is akin to the thought that a woman wearing a short skirt and high heels asked to be raped. We’re blaming the victim instead of demanding the perpetrators accept responsibility and be punished for their actions. Do we really think the racism black men experience would change if they all swapped hoodies for button ups? Ask the well-spoken ninth grade black boy who was just told to read a poem by Langston Hughes “blacker,” ask a brown-skinned man in a three-piece business suit how difficult it is to catch a cab in New York City, ask the black man who’s been pulled over by the police more times than he can count, not because he went over the speeding limit or forgot to use his turning signal but for a crime far more egregious: driving while black. Ask the black man who can sense the fear his presence instills on those around him when he’s doing nothing more but walking to the corner store. Ask them how much their outfit helped or hindered them.

Everyone is looking for answers here in a crime that doesn’t make sense but I assure you, you won’t find the answer amongst a critique of black menswear. All this banter proves is a fact we often discuss when it comes to black women but is clearly now evident when it comes to black men, make that a black child: we cannot be victims. If being followed, pursued, and tracked down by George Zimmerman, as his calls to 911 demonstrate, doesn’t prove Trayvon was as innocent of a victim as a deer being hunted in the woods, how much more damage will insinuations that by wearing a mere sweatshirt Trayvon posed enough of a threat for George to stand his ground do? I don’t doubt that Trayvon would’ve been pursued exactly the same way as he was February 26 hoodie or not because he was an unrecognized black male in a community of mostly whites. We can swear off hoodies for black men until they go out of style and that won’t remove the accessory that is truly the root cause of their innate suspiciousness in our society—brown skin.

White Teen Who Ran Over and Killed Black Mississippi Man Gets Life

March 22nd, 2012 - By Brande Victorian

Source: Gulf Live

Justice has been served in the case of James Craig Anderson, the 47-year-old black Jackson, MS, man, who was run over and killed by a 19-year-old white teenager last June. Deryl Dedmon, the driver of the pickup truck that was used to murder Mr. Anderson, plead guilty to the charges and was given two life sentences for his crime.

The attack occurred in the parking lot of a motel around 5am on June 26. Surveillance video caught Dedmon and six other teenagers screaming “white power” and racial slurs while punching Anderson before Dedmon accelerated his truck and ran over the man. The teenager admitted that he and his friends had been partying in a small town outside the city when he suggested they find a black man to harass and went to Jackson because of its majority-black population. In court, Dedmon expressed remorse for his actions.

“I do not ask y’all to forget, but I do ask y’all to forgive,” he said. “I wish I could take it all back, I was young and dumb, ignorant and full of hatred. I chose to go down the wrong path.”

Hinds County Circuit Judge Jeff Weill Sr. told Dedmon it’s too late for apologies.

“Your prejudice has brought shame upon you and placed a great stain on the state of Mississippi,” he said in court. “Whatever excuse you may offer for what you have done, forget that. There’s no excuse that you can offer for the family of Mr. Anderson or to your fellow Mississippians who have to try to reconcile the horrible damage you have caused.”

The fate of the other teenagers involved, which includes two girls, will likely be decided today when results of a Justice Department hate crime investigation are aired in court, the New York Times reports. The family has filed a wrongful death suit against all seven of the teenagers involved in the crime as well.

17-Year-Old Admits to Stabbing Female Friend: But First, He Tries to Blame Ficticious Black Man

March 20th, 2012 - By Clarke Gail Baines

Jasmyn Tully - Source: thecomingcrisis.blogspot.com

Well…when you’re a white person who just committed a crime, it seems the trend to get out of the situation is to make up a scary black man (or two) and point the finger at him. Fail much?

That’s what a 17-year-old man thought would work after he stabbed his friend in the neck as she was sleeping. The girl, 17-year-old Jasmyn Tully of Tukwila, WA, was sleeping when her friend allegedly felt the “urge to hurt someone” according to a Tukwila detective. He tried to strangle her as she was sleeping, and when she put up a fight, he proceeded to stab her in the neck. While the young man later claimed he was high at the time and had spent a majority of the day on drugs, he initially tried to use the “blame the black man” excuse to no avail. His uncle told KOMO News the following:

“He said that he had smoked large amounts of what they call spice — I believe the name of it is K2. It’s sold at smoke shops all over the place in this state.”

Spice??? Clearly there are way too many drugs available for people to get their hands on (like the suspect) and use as an excuse for reckless behavior. Tully and the suspect were hanging out in the same home (who the actual home belongs to isn’t clear) at the same time when she fell asleep. With his urge to hurt someone, he attacked her and after the murder he cut his wrists to cover up the crime as an attack of some sort. According to the victim’s uncle, Dave Tully, “We thought she had made the turn down the right path. We had a lot of hope for her.” She was supposedly just a few days away from turning 18. Poor girl…

These type of stories are just too sad to me. If you feel the need to hurt someone, why not just hurt yourself? To attack someone in their most vulnerable state and then run around blaming a fake black man for it is just absolutely horrendous. And when did people start thinking that making up an imaginary black boogie man was acceptable? From women who are trying to avoid marriage and responsibilities and cover their own crimes (“I was kidnapped by a black man, that’s why I’ve been gone all this time!” “A black man stole my car and took my child!”), to folks like the suspect, it’s just very pathetic at this point. I guess it’s very telling that these individuals know a lot of police will believe their stories because in their eyes, violent crimes by black men are common. That’s a pretty horrible way of thinking and is all WAY too common in this country.

I don’t care how old he is or what drugs he had in his system, but they need to prosecute this young man as an adult. And they need to do something with these people who have “Blame the black man” syndrome in general to send a message. Senseless crime. Sad excuses.

Man Suspected in Disappearance of His Wife Kills Sons in Murder-Suicide

February 6th, 2012 - By MN Editor

If you hadn’t heard the story yet, this is how it goes:

Susan Powell is a woman from Utah who went missing in December of 2009. A stock broker, she was reported missing by family members after she failed to show up for work, but not only was she reported missing, so was her husband Josh and her two sons, Braden and Charles. To the surprise of everyone though, her husband Josh and their two children finally came home immediately after the report was filed, and he insisted that he had taken his two young sons on a camping trip, which is why had been out of touch. However, Josh insisted that Susan was left at home and the last time he saw her or talked to her, she was fine. Susan’s belongings, including her keys, her purse, her car and more, were left behind. That was 2009. It is 2012 and no one has seen Susan since she went missing. But since that time, Josh has been the person of interest in her disappearance. Because of that, along with proof that he had child pornography in his possession, temporary custody of his two sons was granted to Susan’s father, Chuck. Joshua was still allowed to see the young boys though, and the last time they were brought to his home was on Sunday, Feb. 5.

On that Sunday, Josh and his two sons were killed when his home in Washington State exploded. It is presumed that the explosion was set off by a gas leak done by Josh, and is now being treated as a murder-suicide. Police believe he may have done it not only because his most recent effort to gain back custody of his sons was denied, but also because 7-year-old Braden (Charles is five) started saying that when they went on that camping trip in 2009, their mother was in the trunk of the car. Josh could have possibly believed that his lies were going to be exposed, and in an effort to stop all that, took his life as well as that of his sons.

In an interview with PEOPLE, Susan’s father, Chuck, said that the family saw this coming and tried to let the authorities know:

“We stated our fear many times, that if he was feeling desperate, that he would possibly kill himself and the boys, that this kind of thing could happen. If he felt there was no way out, that he wouldn’t let anyone else have them. They were possessions to him.”

“They were all aware of our fears – that he would take a cowardly way out.”

When I heard this story late last night, I couldn’t even believe it. If you want to take your own life for in some way hurting the mother of your children, that’s one thing, but to take the children with you? That’s unthinkable and just evil. If Susan’s father and family believed Josh was a threat to himself and the boys, it’s a shame that something couldn’t have been done about it sooner. May both little Braden and Charles rest in peace.

PETA Wants to Turn O.J.’s Home into ‘Meat is Murder’ Museum

January 20th, 2012 - By Brande Victorian

I continue to be amazed at how PETA wants to trample all over humans’ rights and feelings in order to protect the well-being of animals.

Everyone knows O.J. Simpson’s Florida home is facing foreclosure and the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals want first dibs on the property so they can turn it into a “Meat is Murder” Museum.

According to NY Magazine, the organization wrote a letter to JP Morgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon asking if the bank would be willing to donate the home or allow PETA to purchase it for a “nominal sum” once they foreclose on the property. Explaining what the organization would do with the home, PETA President Ingrid Newkirk wrote this:

“Our museum will remind visitors that violence may not always be preventable but that it sometimes can be prevented and that nonviolence begins on our plates.”

Insensitive much? Unfortunately Ingrid didn’t stop there with her crass remarks, adding:

“For instance, many wonderful flesh-and-blood individuals—who feel pain and fear as acutely as humans do and who value their lives in much the same way—are knifed to death every day for nothing more than a fleeting taste of flesh.”

It’s clear PETA’s leadership thinks it’s somehow OK to make light of the death of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman for which O.J. stood trial for murdering. Only one word comes to mind when I read those words: tasteless.

If the bank does in fact allow PETA to assume ownership of the home, they’ve  already got their house of horrors planned out with “exhibits that give visitors a sense of the terror that animals used for food experience.”

The museum will “highlight interesting facts about the animals who are so casually converted into sandwich fillings, that pigs rank higher on cognition tests than 3-year-old human children, and that chickens recognize one another by facial features, and that fish form friendships.” They’ve even supposedly designed a free meat-free menu with riblets, veggie burgers, and faux chicken.

These people are truly special.

What do you think about PETA’s Meat is Murder museum idea?
