One would imagine that there’s still some sort of unspoken beef between Ashanti and 50 Cent after he called her out on several diss tracks during the early 2000s. If you recall, 50’s G-Unit camp got into an ugly feud with Murder Inc. and no one was safe—not even the Inc.’s “princess,” Ashanti. Though he frequently attacked her during his verbal tirades back in the day, Ashanti says that all is well between she and 50 thanks to her ex-boo, Nelly.

“I would see 50 every now and again and I never had a problem,” Ashanti recently told DJ Whoo Kidd. “He didn’t seem like he had a problem.”

According to the “Never Should’ve” singer, Nelly requested that 50 apologize to “his girl” one year at the VMAs.

“The first time we [me and 50] kind of ‘spoke’ so to speak, we were at the VMA’s in Vegas and Nelly was like ‘Yo, you need to apologize to my girl.’”

Apparently the exchange occurred in front a big group of people and to be honest, we’re pretty shocked that 50 didn’t just add Nelly to his hit list. But instead, he simply apologized to her.

“We were in front of everybody and you know, 50 has a personality, he was like ‘Ashanti I’m sorry! I’m sorry, Ashanti!’ And everybody was dying laughing.”

“Obviously, everybody knew about the beef, G-Unit, Murder Inc. It wasn’t anything personal. It was explained to me that sometimes you’re guilty by association. It’s part of what happens.”

And that’s how Nelly defended Ashanti’s honor against the big, bad Curtis Jackson.

Watch What Happens Live

On a recent episode of Watch What Happens Live, Ashanti, who recently postponed the release of her latest album Braveheart, which was supposed to come out June 30, still went on the show to promote it with Andy Cohen. During the show, you know they talked about everything but the new album, including beef in R&B, her song “Never Should Have” and its connection to Nelly, as well as where she stands with her former music family, Murder Inc. Ashanti definitely had some interesting things to say. Here’s the low-down:

What she thinks of Rihanna and Ciara Not Getting Along:

“I think Rihanna is killin’ it right now. She’s very free. I think Ciara’s definitely doing her thing. I like her new video. I think there’s room for every chick that wants to get down and just be big in the business. You have to have your swag and great records so I think there’s room.”

Her Thoughts On Ja Rule And Where She Stands With Murder Inc.:

Ja Rule: “Yeah we’re still in touch. You know he’s out now! We spoke on the phone, he’s in great spirits, he’s working on a new album. He’s looking kinda brolic now.”

Murder Inc: “There’s no bad blood.  We went through a whole lot.  There was family involved and relationships involved.  It was really hard when that stuff happened.  It was like a black cloud over all of us.  There was a period where we didn’t talk as much as we did.  But as it stands today, we’re all good.  The whole Murder Inc. family.  We made history together.   We’re in the Guinness Book of World Records together.”

If Her Emotional Song “Never Should Have” Is About Nelly (Ya’ll know it is…):

“Well, how do I answer that?  I’ll just say its a very real record, that’s inspired by a real experience and it came from a real place.”

And there was also “Teach Me Your Talent” impromptu “twerk” session where Ashanti and her mom Tina taught Andy how to pop that “thang.” Let’s just say it was interesting…check it out below and let us know what you think of her comments!

In The ‘Army’ Now: Singer Ashanti Added To Cast Of Lifetime Series!

"Ashanti pf"

Say what you want about her but Ashanti (with help from her obviously amazing team) knows how to keep herself relevant and with a check coming in.  It was just announced that she has been added to the cast of one of Lifetime’s most popular series, Army Wives.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ashanti will play Latasha Durant, mother of three children ages 11, 8 and 6, with the youngest suffering from Cystic Fibrosis. She’s also described as “a survivor with no self-pity who is determined to wrench all the joy out of life that she can. She’s a Hot, fun woman who knows how to keep a husband — and keep him in line.”  It sounds like she landed a fairly well-rounded role on the show which will be entering its seventh season.

This is great news for Ashanti and it continues to broaden her up to a wider audience.  Her past film credits include Resident Evil: Extinction, John Carter Must Die and Coach Carter.  Her acting skills have been described by many as average, at best, but she clearly knows how to make people buy into everything that she wants to do.  It doesn’t hurt that she also appears to have quite the pleasant demeanor.

There was talk that Army Wives was going to be canceled at the end of last season but with the addition of Ashanti and also actresses Torrey Devitto and Elle McLemore, the writers and creators are clearly prepping for some new storylines.

Do you watch the show? If not, will Ashanti make you tune in every now and then once it returns?

Watch the Throne? Ashanti Releases Video For “The Woman You Love”

After putting out teasers for this video, and “V.I.Leaks” on 106 & Park, the video for Ashanti’s track, “The Woman You Love,” is out, and she’s officially back. Homegirl goes all futuristic in the video, playing a tortured soul floating in the future who needs to let go of the past in order to be free. In order to do so, she looks back over the relationship that hurt her thanks to a cheating boo played by actor Marcus Patrick. His cameo as her love interest is a little hard for me to take seriously after I peeped him doing a strip tease in this B. Scott video

But anyway, while the song really isn’t that bad, her vocals aren’t much stronger I must say. Busta Rhymes makes this track worth listening to, and makes a cameo in the video repping YMCMB VERY hard (why are they signing all these old a** artists?). And Ashanti’s attire in the video is pretty fierce too, though I really need her to ditch that head-braid crap she keeps walking out the house with. But alas…Check the video below and tell us what you think. Is Ashanti back?

What do you think? Pass or play for you?
