Style To Steal Or Girl, Stop: Halle Berry, Rihanna, Soul Train Awards Fashions & More!

November 9th, 2012 - By Clarke Gail Baines

Another week, but a lot more fashionistas with fly and forgettable fashions for you to see and pick apart. From Halle rocking velveteen in Berlin to Melanie Fiona looking retro in a lace minidress in Vegas, these ladies were very colorful and stylish this week. But whose look do you love and which do you loathe? Let’s go through and see…

WENN

Halle Berry

The stunning 46-year-old showed up to the Berlin premiere of her movie, Cloud Atlas, looking half her age in this velveteen dress with a side split, intricate draping and two different arms (one capped, one strapless). To accessorize, Halle wore strappy gray heels with silver cuffs and bangles, a large cocktail ring, as well as drop earrings with a fish bone design. The hair was in her signature pixie and the eyes were darkened to make her look pop.

Halle does it again! This look is very alluring yet sophisticated, and with that body and that hair, she’s killing the game. Steal!

Did Marsha Ambrosius Just Come Out The Closet And Get It Over With?

Girl-on-girl action has become the hot thing to do for attention these days, Nicki Minaj being the most recent (and grandest) offender. But some are wondering whether Marsha Ambrosius might be in the lesbian for play play camp now after looking at the video for her new song, “F**k N Get it Over With.” Of course there’s always the other possibility too, that she’s actually into women and this is her creative coming out.

The track, which I’m sure will quickly become the club closer at the end of the night, is definitely a bedroom boom jam and the video backs up the late-night, let’s get it right tempo. Marsha is the only one we see for the majority of the clip, preparing for an intimate encounter with someone she clearly plans on finally going to bed with after much anticipation. As we watch her set out her bra and mini-skit and hop in a car scantily clad, we assume she’s headed over to give a man some good loving. But then the biggest shock of all, besides Marsha having a song with such a raw title, is that a woman in lingerie answers the door and leads Marsha into the house, so they can finally eff and get it over with.

So what’s the big deal?

One, we’re not used to seeing two women in a sexual way in a video without it being overly salacious. Some might say this scene also falls into that category, but there was something very matter-of-fact about the way the other woman was presented that I can appreciate. No one was grinding on the other for the sake of male attention as is so often the case with displays of lesbian love. These were two grown women about to do what they do because that’s what they like to do. Two, if, in fact, this is Marsha’s own coming out or even just a nod to lesbian women, I can value the presentation without all the hype over a “gay scene” so to speak or all of the theatrics over her announcing her sexual preference.

Since Marsha’s Floetry days there have been questions over her sexual orientation, and even speculation that she was in a relationship with bandmate Natalie Stewart and when they broke up as a couple, they also broke up as a group. Neither woman has ever spoken on those rumors, and though Marsha has openly talked about her connection with gay audiences, she’s never been open about who she’s laying with at the end of the night because, truthfully, it’s irrelevant to her craft. But now she seems to be letting us inside her world just a bit with the cliffhanger ending of her new music video, which incidentally debuted on National Coming Out Day yesterday. Coincidence? I think not.

The singer has yet to confirm whether what’s seen in the video is a reflection of what she does in real life, although after looking at the video what more is there to say? Kudos to her for artistically showcasing her truth without all the pomp and circumstance. Unless of course this was just a publicity move to get people to listen to the song in which case I’ll just say congratulations!

Evening Eye Candy: NFL Cutie George Wilson

The Buffalo Bills safety that is George Wilson might not be as well known as a Reggie Bush or your Michael Vick when it comes to hotties in the NFL, but he should be! With his light eyes, slick bald head and delicious lips (don’t forget about that beard), he could be a model. Maybe that’s why he’s been showing up in so many fashion editorials and music videos (“Hood Love” with Mary J Blige, “Late Nights & Early Mornings” with Marsha Ambrosius). So what exactly is this hunk of a man working with? Let’s take a look why don’t we?

The 2012 Essence Music Festival brought the big guns onstage (Chaka Khan killed it while looking super svelte and D’Angelo made a comeback), but we got the real dish offstage. StyleBlazer was on the scene to chat with our favorite celebs! Uber-stylist June Ambrose told us how to stay cool when it’s sweltering outside, and the handsome Eric Benet gave his definition of a perfectly dressed woman.

StyleBlazer: What’s your top tip for staying cool in the heat?
June Ambrose: You have to wear breathable underwear. Keep the meat neat, ladies. And you don’t want your box to be uncomfortable. Reasonable undergarments are the foundation for feeling secure and confident and you want fabric that breathes.

Tamar Braxton’s ego is probably overthetop.com right now after performing on the Soul Train Awards last night. The baby sister of the Braxton’s family was the opening performer honoring Gladys Knight with the legend award, and while the overall tribute left much to be desired, Tamar’s voice was pretty on point. If only we could do something about that sashay on stage.

Jill Scott was also named Best Female R&B and Soul Artist, repping hard for the 2-1-5, her hometown of Philly. Marsha Ambrosius took home the award for Record of the Year, Kelly Rowland’s “Motivation” earned her Song of the Year, and Nicki Minaj’s “Moment for Life” was named Best Hip-Hop Song. Best Caribbean Performance went to Rihanna for “Man Down,” Mary Mary earned the Best Gospel Performance for “Walking,” and Beyonce’s “Run the World” was named Best Dance Performance.

Check out the Gladys Knight Tribute below and tell us what you think about Tamar’s performance. What were your favorite (or least favorite) moments from the show?

You know Madame Noire is always at all the cool events, right? Right! So of course we were at 106 and Park when they announced the BET Awards 2011 nominations.  We got to watch a dope performance from Miguel and find out what’s good from the likes of Marsha Ambrosius, J. Cole, Wacka Flocka and more!

Oh and ladies, sorry to burst your bubble,  but cutie patootie J. Cole is not single . He said he hasn’t been single “in a very long time.” Awwww, how sweet! You never hear young entertainers (especially rappers) claiming their women so definitively. Loves it!
