Serious Question: Why Is It People Don’t Treat You Like An Adult Until You’re Married?

I never had any hesitation that Andy was the one for me or that we would spend the rest of our lives together. After six years in a monogamous relationship — including two cross-country moves, economic upheaval and layoffs, career changes, and a six-month stint living with his parents (no easy feat) — it felt like we’d already made our relationship official.
But, like most women who are single well into their 20s, I felt pressured by girlfriends who insisted, “Everyone wants to get married” and, “You’re just saying you don’t care because you haven’t been proposed to yet.” As most of my friends plotted their way to the altar, Andy and I enjoyed years of blissful cohabitation without ever worrying about if and when we’d tie the knot.
Over the years, we attended weddings by the dozen. Eventually he and I were one of the last unmarried pairs standing. Still, I wasn’t compelled to demand a ring. We were content. Certainly, people in our lives thought there had to be something wrong with our relationship, but we didn’t care what anyone thought.
Even during my years as an editor at a major wedding magazine, my bridal instincts failed to kick in. Sure, I felt the twinge of “something missing” every time a new coworker announced her engagement and was met with loads of fanfare, but that didn’t change how I felt deep inside: Andy and I didn’t need a piece of paper to affirm our commitment.
I wasn’t until my 30th birthday approached that I began to feel the first real impulse to get hitched. My career was thriving, but still, I sensed a barrier. It soon became apparent that my unmarried status was preventing me from being taken seriously as an adult and a professional. I was trapped in relationship purgatory.

A Happy Home Is A Happy Husband: How To Make Sure Your Spouse Doesn’t Hate Being Married

The majority of sitcoms and movies à la Judd Apatow today make marriage seem like a nightmare in which the wife is an unreasonable tyrant controlling her emotionally stunted child of a husband. In other words, nobody comes out on top. But that’s only one side of the story. You’re not doomed to make your husband miserable in marriage, all because you said “I do.” Fight the stereotypes about spousal living, and remember this:
Did You Need A Tat For That? Ciara Says Her And Future’s Matching Tats Are Their Way Of Putting Positive Things In The Universe
We know we’re not the only ones who were wondering why Ciara and Future upped and got matching tattoos on their fingers after only having been dating for a short while. Unfortunately, we haven’t had an opportunity to ask such a pertinent question, but thankfully Wendy Williams did and, as usual, she did not mince words.
Today, Ciara appeared on her talk show discussing everything from body parties to her Rihanna feud, but the most interesting moment of their chat was Ciara’s explanation for her and her boo, Future’s, matching tats. Here’s how the discussion went when Wendy drew attention to the body art.
Wendy: Are you pregnant?
Ciara: No (laughs)
Wendy: Clearly you’re in love?
Ciara: I’m very happy
Wendy: So you guys eventually are going to getting married?
Ciara: I don’t know.
Wendy: What happens if you don’t get married to this guy? How are you going to explain that to the next man?
This is the place I’m in. I’ve always been so reserved and to myself or more private and kind of half way about something when I speak about a relationship. In this day in my life I’m so comfortable in my skin. And I feel so good about where I am. I’m very confident and comfortable with the way he loves me. I say that to say I’m only going to put in the universe positive things. I’m going to put in the universe that it’s only going to get better and better and better.
And again I ask: you needed a tattoo to do that?
I get putting positive things out in the universe, I just prefer they come into fruition before I permanently place those ideas on my body. But hey, get it how you live. Here’s to Ci Ci never having to explain these tats to anyone else!
What do you think about the reason behind their tattoos?
Tyler Perry Actors Tamela And David Mann Finally Have Their Dream Wedding 25 Years After Saying ‘I Do’
You recognize these faces don’t you? Gospel singer Tamela Mann and comedic actor David Mann have been more than gainfully employed by Tyler Perry over the last decade, with both actors starring in several of the director/screenwriter/producer’s plays and feature films. Well something you may or may not have known is that the couple is actually a husband-wife duo (not that their names didn’t tip you off), and over this past weekend they walked down the aisle for the first time together, despite having legally wed back in 1988. Tamela told Us Weekly:
“When we got married 25 years ago, we didn’t have enough money for a wedding.”
The 46-year-olds even had to borrow a ring to symbolize their union. Thankfully, they were now able to put those Tyler Perry dollars to use and have the wedding they’ve been dreaming of for over two decades. On April 20, Tamela and David renewed their vows in front of family and friends in Dallas, TX, in a ceremony — and wedding dress — Tamela spent months working on.
“I knew every intimate detail of [the dress], but when I saw it at my final fitting last week, I lost it,” Tamela said. “It was everything I could have ever dreamed of in a bridal gown.”
“We wanted a fairytale wedding, so we picked an enchanted forest theme,” she added. ”We hosted everyone at the Joule Hotel because it had the feel we were trying to create — old-world romantic, beautiful, chic and lush — and a place everyone would love. And it had space for a dance floor, which if you know David, was something we had to have!”
“Our grand babies were dressed as little princes and princesses. Our children weren’t happy they didn’t get to be in the ceremony, but they eventually were okay with it because their kids got to be on stage with us.”
Quite a few famous faces were at the ceremony as well, although the couple, who has three daughters and one son, said they wanted to ”keep the invite intimate.” High school friend Kirk Franklin and his wife Tammy attended the vow renewal, as did Timbaland and his wife Monique Idlett Mosley. Us Weekly will release exclusive shots from the ceremony this week and it shouldn’t be long before we see more of the day’s events, as the Mann’s are slated to star in a new reality show debuting later this year or early 2014.
Congrats to the couple!
Am I Wrong For Wanting To Leave My Ill Husband?

Dear Dr. Sherry,
I am a 49-year-old woman who has been married for 28 years. I have devoted my life to my husband and my daughter. The moon rose and set on the two of them, and I had great faith in my husband and believed everything he told me as gospel until about five years ago. My husband had a 2-year relationship that almost tore our marriage apart. I asked him to leave and he move out. After three months, he said he had made a mistake and we reconciled. Fast forward to after the affair. I began to analyze myself. I had really neglected myself, to the point, I had gained weight, neglected to finish school and stop going out with my friends because as I was just too busy with my family. I gave up all my power as a woman to my husband. It was not his fault.
In 2011, I decided I needed a change. I had gastric bypass surgery and I’ve lost almost 70 pounds so far. I enrolled in college at my job and I’m almost finished and looking forward to my new career. I have also made new friends and go out at least once a week. I am having the time of my life! However, there are problems: My husband has been extremely resistant to my changes, I know he does not like it, and at this point his opinion no longer matters. Dr. Sherry, for the past three years my husband has been in the hospital because he refuses to take care of himself. He has a host of illnesses; diabetes, HTN, eye-problems, hearing problems etc., which all came about after the affair. Just recently, he lost his job, and then, for no apparent reason, stopped taking all of his meds. Last Thanksgiving he had a mild stroke, and my husband is only 52 years old. Also because of my husband’s last stint in the hospital and job loss, we are now behind in the mortgage payments and in foreclosure.
My husband is recovering from the stroke and has found a full-time job. We are now negotiating with the mortgage company. I’m tired and at the end of my rope. I’m tired of always having to run behind him and to put out the fires. My daughter is going off to college, and I no longer want to be married. I refuse to leave because he needs me, since he is still recovering from the stroke. Please help. What do I do? I love my husband, but I don’t think I’m in love with him anymore.
Signed,
Don’t Know What to Do

I’m 8 Months Pregnant, 4 Months Into My Marriage, And My Husband Is Cheating
Q: I am eight months pregnant. It’s my husband and I’s second child. Our first is a daughter who is amazing. We have been together for three years and married four months. He walked out two months ago saying he needed time to think. The time he spent at home became less and less and then I found out he is living with a new female. He cheated on me before he walked out, but when he left he made it out to be my fault. I do love this man, and he doesn’t want to file for divorce and hasn’t removed anything from our home. I want to fix our marriage, but I know I cannot do it alone. How do I let my marriage go, and what I thought was going to be forever? Please help!

You Know How Viola Davis Snagged Her Hubby Julius? Prayer
Any time a single, christian woman laments that she’s tired of being single, the answer is always pray and wait on God to send the man he made just for you. Most times the women saying that don’t actually have any proof of that casual approach working, but when Viola Davis tells you prayer works when it comes to finding your mate in life, she knows what she’s talking about.
The star of the flick Beautiful Creatures, which opens in theaters tonight, recently told the NY Post that’s how she got together with her husband, Julius Tennon. Speaking on her marriage to the former college football player who she married in 2003 and adopted a daughter with last year, she said:
“I was the loneliest woman in the world, and someone said, ‘You should just pray for a husband.’ I said I wanted a big black man from the South who looked like a football player, who already had children, who maybe had been married before . . . 3 1/2 weeks later I met my husband.”
Well if that’s not a successful happily ever after story I don’t know what is. Shout out to Viola and Julius on Valentine’s Day!
Do you all know anybody who had their prayers for a man answered that quickly?
That’s Mrs. Khalifa To You: Amber Rose & Wiz Khalifa Finally Tie The Knot
25-year-old rapper Wiz Khalifa has been anything but shy about desiring that his baby boy to be born into a family where both of his parents share the same last name. On several occasions, the North Dakota native expressed that he and Amber would be getting hitched in a private ceremony pre-baby and then having an elaborate wedding celebration after Amber gives birth. While he never indicated when the wedding would be, we all knew it was coming soon. Especially since Amber is looking like she can go into labor at any given moment.
Now that all of the excitement surrounding the couple’s two fabulous baby showers has died down, it’s looking like the love birds have finally jumped the broom. TMZ recently caught up with Amber while she was doing some shopping. And of course, in like TMZ fashion, they made playful pregnancy jokes and offered Amber a Ninja Turtles ice cream sandwich, stating that they “know pregnant girls crave ice cream”. An extremely pregnant Amber excitedly accepted their offer and took the ice cream sandwich.
Before departing, she proceeded to thank the guys of TMZ:
“My husband loves Ninja Turtles, too. That’s really cute. Thank you.”
Aha! Whether intentionally or unintentionally, Amber definitely spilled the beans. Wiz loves the Ninja Turtles so much that he has one of them tattooed on his leg.
We can’t say exactly when, where or how the couple tied the knot and I suppose that doesn’t even matter. It’s great that Amber and Wiz were able to get married before the birth of their child. The two seem very much in love.
We’re really happy for them!
Check out the adorable footage of Amber spilling the beans on the next page.
Sad News! Michael Ealy Is Officially Off The Market — As In Secretly Married
OK so this isn’t really sad news for Michael Ealy, but it might be for fans like us who were unnecessarily holding on to the actor’s alleged singleness. Turns out he’s not single at all, and he hasn’t been for a long time. In fact, now he’s married. According to PEOPLE:
Actor Michael Ealy married longtime girlfriend Khatira Rafiqzada … back in October, his rep tells PEOPLE.
Ealy, 39, and Khatira Rafiqzada, 31, wed in a private ceremony in Los Angeles. The couple have been dating for almost four years.
“Michael has always been a private guy, and he wanted to enjoy his time as a newlywed with his wife privately,” his rep said. “Now that some time has passed and the holidays are here, he wanted to share the news with his fans that he is married and very happy.”
Four years?! Michael had us all bamboozled. I guess he just wanted to keep some part of his life private, but is anyone else feeling some type of way about him claiming to be single all this time. Couldn’t he have just said he doesn’t talk about his personal life? Hmmmmm.
