For many Mexican Americans living here in the U.S., Cinco de Mayo is a day to commemorate their Mexican pride and heritage. While many of us who aren’t Mexican join in on the celebration, here’s a list of celebs that you may not have known that are actually Mexican, either by ethnicity or nationality.
Taboo from Black Eyed Peas
As one fourth of the super group Black Eyed Peas, rapper Taboo has become an international superstar. Born to a Mexican American father and a Native American mother in Los Angeles, Taboo, real name Jaime Gomez, joined the group to replace one of its members. Black Eyed Peas went through a couple name changes and singer Fergie was brought in as the fourth member in time for their third album. Taboo began working on a solo album in 2008 but has said it will take some time to get his solo career off of the ground.
Whether they were changing their sound to get put on, or they were changing their sound to do the music they actually wanted to (and not what the record company wanted), change is inevitable from artists in the music industry. However, the 10 different musicians on this list made some major, if not drastic, changes to their sound and their image. For the most part, it all worked out in their favor–even if it left fans confused as hell.
When Can’t Take Me Home dropped in 2000, P!nk was a hybrid of pop and R&B–more of the latter. That probably had a lot to do with the fact that most of the songs on her first album were written by or with the help of black folks: Babyface, Kandi Burruss, Tricky Stewart, etc. But by the time her second album, Missundaztood, came out a year later, P!nk was more on the pop and rock side, and she never looked back.

It’s not often that we hear about a celebrity marriage lasting, and when one doesn’t we all sit and wait patiently for the nasty divorce settlements. With so much money and fame involved, it’s not uncommon for negotiations to get a little dirty, but in the end most of these ex-wives end up getting broke all.the.way.off. Though it’s never a happy thing to see a marriage end, we’re pretty sure some of these women dried their tears in dollar bills and ended up laughing their way to the bank. While love doesn’t cost a thing, divorces really do. Here are 14 of the biggest celebrity divorce settlements in our lifetime.
And When He Get On, He’ll Leave Your A**: Men Who Left Their “Ride Or Die” Chicks When They Made It REALLY Big
Fame can be a good and bad thing. It can be good for the man who gets it, and bad for the woman who stands by his side through it all. While some women have been lucky to have their men stay committed to them as the spotlight gets brighter (think LeBron James and Savannah Brinson), others get distracted by all the good looking chicks throwing themselves at them and eff up. And when that happens, they leave their “ride or dies” for something that seems better. Well, the grass isn’t always greener on the other side (and hey, sometimes it actually is). Check out these 10 fellas who got on and left their longtime loves for one reason or another (including another chick who caught their eye).
Chris Bosh Leaves Allison Mathis, Marries Adrienne Williams
Just as a heads up, know that you’re going to see many a basketball player on this list. It seems they can’t hold it together when the money comes and the thirsty chicks step up. Anywho, Bosh was in a relationship with girlfriend Allison Mathis way back when he was playing for the Toronto Raptors and struggling to get some wins. They met in 2005 and according to the Toronto Star, she was a mainstay at his games for many seasons after that. But by 2008, she got pregnant and things fell apart. There were claims that he wasn’t taking care of his daughter, Trinity, and things got ugly. But luckily, after paternity cleared up, he started supporting his little girl. While he and Allison couldn’t make it last, Bosh found love soon after with his current wife, Adrienne Bosh, and the two married in 2011, giving birth to their son, Jackson, earlier this year. Speaking of marriage, in an interview with VIBE, Allison says they were supposed to make it to the altar first, but sadly, it didn’t happen.
“We talked about it; we actually got fitted for rings and everything. We talked about the different designs and everything so it was definitely in the plans. He, of course, told my mother and assured my mother, because my mother was very kind of against us having a baby before marriage. But he assured her; he told his mother and father, so a lot of my family and I were aware that it was going to happen and it just did not.”
From ex-wives to ex-girlfriends and former mistresses as well as cuddle buddies, these women were constant arm candy for some of music’s biggest stars (oh, and one NBA baller I couldn’t keep out). Some got a ring and went through the most with their men, others just had a good ‘ol time with some high profile people, and well, some had their lives flipped upside down. They were seen everywhere with them at events–and then they weren’t. Where are they now?
The former stylist and model, and of course, daughter of Quincy Jones was allegedly engaged to Tupac before he passed away. Clearly cut from a different cloth than her sister, actress Rashida Jones, Kidada was besties with Aaliyah and was known for helping Tommy Hilfiger’s line of clothing become a must in urban wear. Anywho, after Shakur’s death, during a time of grief, Jones went ahead and got a tattoo of him on her arm. Today though, it has been covered. These days, Kidada is back focused on styling and designing, as she was the force behind Disney Couture and the extension, Kidada for Disney Couture.
I don’t know what’s in the water, but it seems that this is the week for celebrities to post pictures of themselves as tiny tots. Yesterday was Tia and Tamera Mowry, today it’s Nicole Richie and her mother, Brenda Harvey Richie. In case you weren’t aware, Brenda (I can only think of “The Boondocks” when I think of her…) and Lionel Richie provided a home for Nicole when her parents (her father is actually Sheila E’s brother) came into hard financial times. They later adopted her and dressed her up in all kinds of interesting ensembles (see the blue “Toddlers & Tiaras”-esque dress below, circa 1985. Her words: “is it too late to audition for Toddlers & Tiaras? NR 1985!“). Nicole and Brenda decided to post a few pics from Nicole’s childhood recently, and it’s clear that someone was fashion savvy early on.
Is this cute or what?
