Sherri Shepherd has been very vocal in the past about her battles with her weight. At one point, she came out on the stage of The View in a swimsuit and on the cover of OK! to show off what she was working with after a big weight loss. But like most women, Shepherd’s weight has gone up and down over the years, mainly because of her love for things like pasta, pancakes and more. However, she knew she had to get it in order after she was diagnosed with diabetes, right around the time her weight was hitting near 200 pounds.

She opened up about this in her new book, Plan D: How to Lose Weight and Beat Diabetes (Even If You Don’t Have It), which comes out today. As she explained in an interview with USA Today, the threat of losing her life and limbs to diabetes and possibly not being around to take care of her son, Jeffrey, really was the wake-up call she needed:

“I was going through a nasty divorce at the time and I thought, “I’ll be dammed if my husband’s girlfriend is going to raise my son.”‘

She said [her doctor] ‘Sherri, you love wearing those shoes, don’t you?’ I said, “Yes, I do.” She said, ‘You won’t be wearing them with your foot cut off, because if you keep eating the way you are eating, that’s where you’re headed.’”

“I learned how to get rid of the white foods – the pasta, pancakes, cereal, anything loaded with sugar.”
Still, Shepherd said getting to the point where she could ditch some of her favorite foods was very hard:

“If I didn’t have diabetes, I would probably be at the International House of Pancakes eating a stack of pancakes with butter and syrup,” says Shepherd, 46. “I would probably be 250 pounds. I would not be going to the doctor. I probably wouldn’t be married to my husband, Lamar Sally. I wouldn’t be healthy for my son, Jeffrey.”

But now she’s trading carbs and sugar for vegetables and taking advantage of the space around her at home to work out when she can’t get out to the gym:

“I never liked vegetables before. Now I’m a kale freak because one day we got kale and my husband sautéed it with green peppers, olive oil and garlic.”

“I have learned to turn my house into a gym. I do lunges when going to the laundry with my basket. When cooking, I do push-ups against the kitchen counter. I do toilet squats. My behind has not touched a toilet seat in years. I am an Olympic squatter.”

All in all, being diagnosed with diabetes, but it was a blessing in disguise because it’s made the TV personality and actress a happier and healthier individual. “I feel really healthy,’ she said ‘I have so much energy. I want to live and I’m going to beat this thing. I feel so blessed.”

What do you think of her open and honest comments on her struggle to eat and live healthier?

Sherri Shepherd’s Ready For Another Baby: “I’m Still Looking For A Uterus”

Sherri Shepherd is ready to be a mommy again but she needs a little help. During an upcoming appearance on Rachael Ray, she told the daytime host:

“I’m trying to have another baby you know, I’m still trying . . . still looking for a uterus.” To sweeten the pot of being the woman to carry Sherri Shepherd’s baby she jokingly added, “I’ll give you a free weave and a Hyundai for a year.”

She’s so ghetto.

At 45, Sherri knows physically carrying a baby wouldn’t be the best thing for the mother of one. But emotionally she says she’s on point. Plus she probably wants a baby with her husband Lamar Sally, since 7-year-old Jeffrey is her ex-husband Jeff Tarpley’s son. Speaking on her plans, Sherri said:

“I don’t know how we’re going to have this baby because I’m in my forties and I can’t even remember my first son’s name, but I’m going to have another baby because I’m feeling good.”

If you want a year’s worth of free weave and a car you better get to tweeting Sherri! Just kidding good luck to her and Lamar with their baby plans!

Ebony Names Hot Couples of 2012

Ebony magazine has put together an interesting mix for it’s hot couples of 2012 feature. On one end you have political commentator Roland Martin and Jacquie Hood Martin, “The View” co-star Sheri Shepherd and her new hubby Lamar Sally, and singer Eric Benet and his wife Manuela Testolini, while on the other u have you have T.I. and Tiny, Keyshia Cole and NBA baller Daniel “Boobie” Gibson, and notorious “Basketball Wife” Evelyn Lozada and Ochocinco.

The six couples have a cute spread in the February issue where they share what attracted them to one another and how they make their relationships work. When the magazine asked Keyshia why she decided to give Daniel a chance, she said:

“I was kind of through with relationships. I didn’t feel like guys were mature enough. What made me gravitate toward Gib was his faith in God, more than anything. He seemed like a loving person. He talked a lot about his grandmother, who had passed away, and the things she instilled in him.”

What does Daniel love about Keyshia?

“She has morals and a big heart. Once we met things happened fast. I felt like she was perfect for me. I proposed to her on New Year’s Eve, right when the ball dropped. I got down on one knee at the same time.”

Chad and Evelyn also talk about what makes their relationship work (sorta). Evelyn said:

“You must be open. That’s something I had never done before. I didn’t want anyone telling him something about me. He doesn’t judge me on my past or anything.”

And what attracted Chad to Evelyn from the beginning?

“She was up-front and honest. I never had that before. I always [say to] people in early conversations, ‘Tell me about yourself.’ They always skip a story and try to come off squeaky clean. They tell me what they think I want to hear. She didn’t send her representative. She told me what she went through. She gave me A,B,C. She said, ‘Take it or leave it.’”

Check out pics of Keyshia Cole’s photo spread on Jae Ink Speaks.

What do you think about this list? Who do you consider hot couples of 2012?

Rumors of Betrayal Surround Sherri Shepherd’s New Hubby

November 23rd, 2011 - By Brande Victorian

The honeymoon may already be over for newlyweds Sherri Shepherd and Lamar “Sal” Sally. Sources claim that Sherri’s new hubby neglected to mention that at one point he was “intimately involved with,” i.e. having sex with, bridesmaid Wendy Marrisa Peel who he begged Sherri to include in the bridal party.

A close family friend told the ENQUIRER, “Sal and Wendy met at college in 1990 and dated for about a year. But they mutually decided they were not meant to be in a committed relationship, so they broke up. However, they remained ‘friends with benefits’ right up to the time Sal met and started dating Sherri!

“It is quite possible Wendy was the last person Sal was intimate with before he met Sherri.”

When the ENQUIRER contacted Peel she denied dating Sal or sleeping with him in the past, but that doesn’t necessarily mean she’s telling the truth. (The family friend could also just be stirring up trouble.)

If this rumor proves true, I’d say Sal better watch out. At least the alleged relationship happened before Sherri, but I’d want a heads up on that, especially if I was asked to include an ex in my bridal party.

Would you ever have one of your man’s past lovers in your bridal party? If you found out after the fact that he slept with one of your bridesmaids before you were together, how would you react?
