I’ll admit that I’m definitely one of the people who rode that Nas-and-Kelis-are-still-madly-in-love-and-are-going-to-get-back-together-someday wave. I always thought that they were an adorable couple. But truthfully, I could’ve just been romanticizing their split because we were left in the dark for so long regarding the dirty details regarding their break up. My desire for the hip-hop couple to reunite only intensified when the 39-year-old Queens rapper released his Life is Good album where he appeared on the cover, holding his ex-wife’s wedding gown and released songs that were obviously about his releationship with her such as, “Bye Baby.”

In an interview earlier this year, Nas even revealed that he and Kelis were working on their friendship and that he low-key tried to get back with her.

“We’re back together as friends. We were not the best of friends for a long time. We’re friends now and that’s what it is. We’re not together but we’re friends though. I even said, ‘yo, should we try this again?’ I’m like wow. We had all kinds of talks. You know how that is. We have a child. But we’re friends and I’m glad to be at that place. I don’t want no beef. No beef wit ya mama,” Nas honestly expressed.

Since then, there hasn’t been much said about the possibility of a romantic reunion between the pair. Well, until now, that is. One of Kelis’ Instagram followers expressed how happy they were to see Kelis back out in the spotlight and attempted to offer encouragement regarding her situation with ex-husband, Nas.

Surpisingly, Kelis responded to the fan’s well wishes, thanking them for their concern, but letting it be known that she’s not interested in reconciling with Nas because he’d been unfaithful to her.

Then, another fan chimed in, praising the “Jerk Ribs” singer for being real about her feelings and what happened.

Another day, another celebrity making headlines for being in trouble with Uncle Sam. About one year ago, we told you guys that singer Kelis had been hit with a tax lien exceeding $300,000 after she failed to pay her taxes in 2004 and 2010. In addition to the initial $330,000 that the “Milkshake” singer owed to the State of New York, she also reportedly owed $61,737.29 in back taxes in California and $213,932.02 to Uncle Sam.

If that isn’t enough, TMZ is reporting that the 33-year-old beauty now owes an additional $134,000 to the federal government, bringing her tax bill to a figure well above $700,000. That’s a lot of cash, but the good news is that the “Bossy” singer looks like she’s making strides to get her finances under control. Earlier this month she sold her New York City condo for $2.2 million. That’s certainly enough dough to cover her current tax bill. So hopefully she’s able to things squared away with “The Man.” We’d really hate to see her hauled off to prison.

Kanye and Alexis

Before there was Kanye West and Kim Kardashian or even Kanye and Amber Rose, there was Kanye and Alexis. The Chicago rapper/producer met Alexis Phifer back in 2002 and the cute couple dated on and off for four years before West finally popped the question. After an 18-month whirlwind engagement the two went their separate ways citing his hectic touring schedule as the cause. West dated then-unknown model Amber Rose before settling down with the reality show superstar who is now pregnant with their first child.

Well, look what we found!

Kelis is known for her loud and eccentric style making you love her when you’re not always sure why. But a few days ago, she very quietly dropped a song on Soundcloud  titled “Jerk Ribs.”

Now, we are not even going to take a guess at why she named it “Jerk Ribs,” especially since she repeats “Call On Me” during the chorus. Then again, artists come up with song titles all the time that are never in the song. But we can tell you that she’s giving a mix of dance, funk and traces of calypso in the beat.  There are whistles and steel band sounds all through it.

So what’s it about? The best we can tell it is about Kelis’ love of music and always hearing and feeling the melody in everything, including music and possibly love.

Oh and even better news? Kelis tweeted that her album is done and sounds like “love and summer balled up into one.”  We haven’t had a Kelis album since 2010 when she released Flesh Tone to not so rave reviews.

It seems as if there is a dichotomy when it comes to the stereotypes of preacher’s kids.  Some people think of the goody-goody, almost nauseatingly perfect kids (for example:  The Jonas Brothers, who were open about their faith and their purity).  While others seem to think of the wildly rebellious kids who would throw wild parties when their parents were gone (example:  Katy Perry, kissing girls and liking it and what-not).  The reason why I used The Jo-Bros and Katy Perry is because they are indeed preachers’ kids, and seem to fit those stereotypes.  After doing some research, I was able to find a few more, let’s see if any of these surprised you.

You probably heard the news yesterday that the Grammy organization has handed down a dress code for it’s upcoming award show that’s more detailed than that of most catholic schools. And I’m sure you thought, “huh, aren’t we talking about grown people here?”

Oh, how soon we forget. T&A is about as visible during award season as it is inside of a Gentleman’s club, and after years of people (sometimes the same ones) pushing the envelope way, way, way too far, CBS and the powers that be said they’ve had enough and are banning all sorts of attire — or lack thereof — this year. Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher have been battling over money for a year, stalling their divorce. More recently, Bethenny Frankel announced her split from her husband Jason Hoppy. The Daily Mail reports that Frankel (somewhat drunkenly) approached Katie Holmes at a party to gather contact info for Holmes’ divorce lawyer. Frankel, who has turned her stint as a New York Housewife into her own talk show, the Skinnygirl, two spin-off shows, a fitness DVD, and other endeavors, has a lot to protect. And remember Nas and Kelis’ mega money dispute that played out in the media during their divorce proceedings?

Divorce isn’t just about ending a marriage. It is also about money. There can be battles over shared assets and a divorce itself can be costly. Michael Jordan’s divorce from Juanita Jordan was estimated to have cost Jordan $260 million and was considered by Forbes magazine to be “the most expensive celebrity divorce” in history, as of April 2007. When Tiger Woods got divorced from Elin Nordegren it cost him a reported $100 million.

Besides the settlements just the divorce proceedings themselves can rack up bills. If you can’t do the divorce yourself because of a messy separation, going to court means paying a variety of fees. According to a Huffington Post blog by family court attorney Diane L. Danois, subpoenas seeking financial and employment documentation, motions filed objecting to the subpoenas or for failure to timely comply, and hearings will all have to be paid for. And this is just the beginning.

“This chapter of the litigation process can easily run up an additional $5,000,” write Danois, which breaks down the actual costs of divorce item by item. Typically, a family court case involving divorce, can range from from $15,000 to $35,000, or more to litigate, says Danois.

You can choose the cheaper route of mediation (which can range between $500 and $3,000) if there isn’t much to dispute or to do it yourself, if your divorce is simple. Websites such as www.easy-divorce.com, www.completecase.com, and www.mydivorcedocuments.com can help with DIY divorces.

A promoter who found himself in a bad situation is determined to hold Nas accountable for it, one way or another.

Concert promoter Patrick Alloco is suing Nas for $10 million dollars for what he believes in Nas’ role in a kidnapping and TMZ has, of course, obtained the documentation.  Not sure if you heard about this but the concert promoter was kidnapped in Angola after Nas did not show up for a concert on New Year’s Eve in December 2011 after he was paid $300,000.  Singer Jeremih was also part of the bill and didn’t show up but the assumption is that he was only paid $15,000 for his performance. The Angolan promoter that was involved, Henrique Miguel, was allegedly very upset because he put up a lot of money for Nas’ appearance and when he didn’t show up, he allegedly sent his “henchmen” out to capture Patrick until he got his money back.

Alloco and his son were held captive for 50 days – until February 2012 – when the U.S. Embassy finally stepped in and were able able to get them released (the Angolan authorities were aware of what was going on – they, in fact, held Alloco for over seven hours for questioning).

In the lawsuit filed in federal court on Friday, Alloco said he was threatened constantly and beaten during the time he was held hostage.  He also states that as a result of him being away from the states for so long and being unable to do business, he has lost his company and his home.

That is a lot of money and we already know Nas has had IRS money problems, ex-wife money problems, etc.  This case seems like it’ll be interesting (if Nas doesn’t settle out of court) because the only reason Alloco was kidnapped was because Nas didn’t show up for the show.  Now, who knows if he’ll actually get $10 million but you have to wonder if a judge would see things in his favor in some part.
