La La La La La. Warm it up. It seems like forever since Kelis has rocked our world with her unique style and catchy tunes like “Milkshake” and “Bossy.” Now, the songstress has exploded back on the scene pushing a new album, Food, and flossing her bona fide chef skills on a new cooking show. But what truly sent us over the edge is her latest feature on The Coveteur.
It’s true, before Rihanna got bad or Beyonce went solo, we looked to Kelis for hype hair and hot and heavy fashion moments. The Coveteur got a chance to hit up the singer’s Los Angeles abode, where she turned her guest house into the ultimate clothing warehouse walk-in closet, housing everything from John Galliano’s first collection and Alexander McQueen’s last collection to vintage Louis Vuitton and Chanel.
If fashion is art, Kelis must be using her guest house as a museum. See below for her explanation of her life-long affair with fashion:
On her first designer splurge: ”My first ever designer splurge was a pair of pink thigh-high Giuseppe Zanotti boots.”

Her show will be called, “Saucy and Sweet” and provide insight on how she will compose her tasty dishes with boldness.
Digital Spy reports Kelis almost retired from her musical career altogether to become a chef. She received culinary training from the Le Cordon Bleu school and not too long ago released a collection of sauces. Thankfully, 2014 looks like it will measure up to be a successful year in both food and music for our eclectic beauty. Kelis will be releasing her sixth studio album, Food, on April 22. The album will have track names related to food such as “Breakfast,” “Cobbler,” “Friday Fish Fry,” and “Jerk Ribs.”
Saucy And Sweet will air February 26th at 8:30 ET on The Cooking Channel.

Singers often look into their own personal lives as inspiration for songs. These 15 artists got very heartfelt and emotional by singing about the joys of parenthood and their children. Here are some of our favorite songs singers wrote for their children.
Superstar singer Beyonce is normally a private person but after having her first child, Blue Ivy, the former Destiny’s Child member has opened up about the joys of motherhood. In addition to sharing intimate photos of mother and child, Beyonce penned the song “Blue.” In the song, which is on her latest album Beyonce, Blue sings about feeling alive when she looks into her daughter’s eyes. At the end of the song, Blue Ivy joins in and sings with her mommy before asking if they can go see daddy.

Kelis has given us a couple bites of her upcoming album “FOOD,” her first release since signing to UK indie record label, Ninja Tune.
The follow up to her 2010 studio effort “Flesh Tone” will be laced with soul/alternative soundscapes entirely produced by TV On The Radio’s Dave Sitek, reports Billboard.
After teasing two tracks (“Jerk Ribs,” “Been Given A Morning’), Kelis announced that “FOOD” will be released on April 28.
“I’m really happy to be partnering with Ninja Tune on my new record. This is the album I’ve wanted to make for a long time and I want the team around me to be as excited and energetic about it as I am. I’m also very happy to be working with some of the most creative people in the industry,” she says via press release.

Well, we don’t know much about Nas’ personal life beyond what we saw when he was with Kelis, but don’t fret because Nas says he’s a great person to date.
This interview was actually done a couple of months ago, around Nas’ 40th birthday but only recently hit the internet. In it, Nas is chatting with a woman named Cat Greenleaf on the show Talk Stoop about music, life, and love. At one point, Greenleaf, mentioned to Nas that she’s rarely seen a photograph of him smiling. When he told her that his “smiling” face was the same as his “angry” face, Greenleaf told him that he must be the hardest person in the world to date.
Nas responded by laughing (and finally getting out a smile) saying, “No no, I’m the best person to date!” Greenleaf asked what his online dating profile would say if he were on one of the dating sites. Here’s how Nas responded and ladies, these are the things some of us would be looking for in a potential suitor:
“Charismatic. I’m calm, poised…insightful.”
We can believe that about him. Now, with the drama that he and Kelis have publicly gone through (including her saying he cheated on her), I don’t know if she’d disagree with those things he mentioned, but she’d probably have a few more to add to that profile.
Anyway, check out this pretty cool interview. If you’ll notice, Nas is 40 and looks like he’s found that fountain of youth and isn’t sharing the location. He is truly like a fine win, getting better with time.
There are a lot of celebrity exes holding on to some good tea. Angry ex-wife reality shows are cool and all, but we’re thirsty for a good old-fashioned tell-all. Nothing gets tea on the street like a jilted lover and a publishing deal. If we missed your favorite ex, let us know which tell-all you’re waiting for in the comments section.
After watching the drama unfold between Rihanna and Teyana Taylor on Twitter this week, I learned two things: 1. Rihanna really likes to nitpick at people. 2. Teyana Taylor is extremely trill to be so tiny. While folks like Ciara, Karreuche Tran, and more have all cowered back in the corner when they’ve had to deal with the Bajan bad girl, Taylor held nothing back (though she did get a little too fired up). But I’m not really surprised. TT is from Harlem, and Uptown folks don’t play that. Don’t believe me? Check out these nine other Harlem-ites who are quick to put somebody in their place and maybe snatch a wig or two in the process.
Uncle Sam has made one thing clear in recent years: he’s not to be played with. After sending celebs like Lauryn Hill, Wesley Snipes and Ron Isley to the slammer on tax evasion charges, it appears that their fellow entertainers are taking notice and action to ensure that they’re not next.
Back in June we told you that singer Kelis was hit with a swelling tax bill that exceeded a little over $700,000. Well, we’re happy to report that the “Been Given A Morning” singer has been busy getting her tax issues squared away and was able to pay off more than half of her humongous tax bill. According to TMZ, the 34-year-old New York native has paid off all of the federal taxes owed to Uncle Sam, which amounts to $341, 967.36. Now she still reportedly owes over 300,000 in California and New York state taxes, but it appears that she plans to pay those off very soon as well.
Kelis doesn’t appear to have allowed her money struggles to get her down, but we’re sure she’ll be relieved when those hefty numbers are no longer looming over her head.
This is why we love Kelis: She’ll be lowkey for months and then, out of nowhere, she drops new music and we eat it right up!
That’s exactly what happened on Saturday as “Been Given A Morning” surfaced on the internet. The first thing you notice is that Kelis, known for her unique beats and sometimes harsh lyrics, traded that in for a super mellow joint. Yes, she had a moment that was more “soft and pink” than bringing her milkshake to the yard.
In the track, Kelis opens up her vocals to a vulnerability many of us haven’t seen from her since she stepped on the music scene (when she was super angry, Kelis). The song was produced by Basshitter and on Instagram, he described it as a mix of classical, soul and pop music. We’d agree.
What makes this song extra special is the horn and violin playing right before Kelis begins the second verse. That composition alone is almost enough by itself to give a second listen.
Yes, it is different from what we’ve heard from Kelis but one thing we should never forget: she ALWAYS switches things up. Kelis is truly a musical chameleon and you’ve got to be able to appreciate that.
It looks like “Been Given A Morning” will be on Kelis’ new album, FOOD, which likely has a 2014 release date.
So check it out and tell us what you think!
