Dear Readers, we at Madame Noire indulge in a lot of things. Mostly philosophizing, qualitative matters, and world situations. But in the midst of all this deep thinking (“So, if we get the soda with the meal it’ll be cheaper?”) we know that sometimes delving into the world of frivolity is sometimes fun. With that being said:
Within North America sometimes if a person is of color, but their nationality isn’t as obvious, people tend to just categorize them as black (or being “mixed”). However, in this big Melting Pot we like to call the U. S. of A. there are so many different nationalities, and even celebrities can get classified as belonging to one group when they are actually proud members of another.
Along with this frivolity, you’ll have to click; a small price to pay.

They didn’t look like your ordinary soul and R&B singers, but they definitely were. You could hear the R&B influence in their singles, from “I Can’t Go For That,” to “Freedom 90!” and “This Is the Right Time.” Their songs and talent were often so dope that the local black radio stations had to slip their tracks in from time to time (like they used to do Justin Timberlake). We know where our recent faves are (the Joss Stones, Amy Winehouses, Adeles, etc.), but where are our past faves (and a few somewhat recent ones who haven’t dropped new music)? We found a few. Lisa Stansfield
This talented UK singer became a favorite of black folks everywhere when she dropped the song, “All Around the World,” from her solo debut, Affection. But don’t get it twisted, Stansfield had many more jams that people love and still play to this day: “This Is the Right Time,” “You Can’t Deny It,” “All Woman,” and her remake of the Barry White classic, “Never Gonna Give You Up.”
Nowadays, Stansfield is still putting out music from time to time. She’s put out two new albums since the new Millennium began, including 2001′s Face Up, and 2004′s The Moment. She’s working on a new album that she hopes to drop in 2013 (currently untitled). She’s also done her share of acting, doing the “Vagina Monologues” in London, and showing up on the series “Goldplated,” as well as the movie, The Edge of Love with Keira Knightley.

Where are These 10 One Hit(ish) Wonders?

Whether you’re part of the industry or listening from the outside in, everyone knows how fickle mainstream music can be. One hit is hard enough to come by, let alone an actual lasting and flourishing career. Hence the change up of our favorite R&B artists from lovelorn crooners to the newest school of techno babies (See: “DJ’s Got Us Falling in Love,” “Yeah 3x”. ) That’s why you can’t put a face to those early morning/late night radio jams that you barely remember the lyrics to: they’ve been diagnosed with the one-hit wonder syndrome. Or in other cases, the fate of, “that’s that one song.” And while there’s nothing wrong with having a short career (better a little one than hustling mixtapes forever,) it does suck to be remembered as “that guy” or “‘ol girl.” So if you’ve been wondering who made some of your favorite songs from the ‘90s and up, or just if anyone else cares where they are, this list is for you.
