When the King of Pop Michael Jackson passed away in 2009, the world mourned as numerous artists performed or spoke at his memorial service. Noticeably missing was Chris Brown, one of the gloved one’s biggest fans. Brown has spoken out about the influence Jackson had on him growing up, but he was fresh off the heels of the domestic violence incident with Rihanna; hence he was persona non grata. The following year, the “Turn Up The Music” singer was able to pay homage to his hero at the 2010 BET Awards during his Michael Jackson tribute. Brown performed some of Jackson’s iconic moves while adding his own flair to the routine and started to cry while singing “Man In The Mirror.” Although some questioned Brown’s sincerity, he has insisted his feelings during that moment were very real.

She was even in the music video, which makes it that much more evident that the song was meant for her. Common and Erykah broke up in 2002.
