Would You Go To A TLC Concert With A Left-Eye Hologram?
The remaining members of TLC are trying to make a serious come-up right now with T-Boz landing a reality show on TLC and VH1 putting together a biopic on the girl group. Now Chilli and T-Boz are getting serious about going on tour again and they’re playing with the idea of using a hologram of Left-Eye for the show.
‘The hologram is something we talked about and thought about years ago, Chilli told the U.K.’s metro newspaper. “Obviously timing is everything but we’re definitely talking about it.”
Since Tupac appeared as a hologram during Coachella this year, everyone has been playing with the idea of digitally resurrecting artists for performances. Even though it was amazing to see an image of Pac rock the stage with Snoop and Dr. Dre for a song or two, an entire two-hour concert tour performance is a whole other beast. Chilli insists it’s what TLC fans want to see though.
“It will be hard on us but I certainly think our fans would love to see it. We would definitely be the first group to ever do it,” she said.
“I think we would probably pass out and all of our fans would break down but it’s amazing how real the hologram looks, it’s almost like you can touch the person. It’s great but spooky at the same time but we’re definitely thinking about it.”
I would think the hologram wouldn’t be the only concern with TLC hitting the road again. Chilli and T-Boz are now 41 and 42, not exactly the barely legal ladies who were singing about not being too proud to beg. T-Boz also has several health issues she’s dealing with, not the least of which is sickle-cell anemia. Creating a Left-Eye hologram would be an amazing idea for a big performance at the Grammys or something but I don’t know if they could pull off a whole concert series with that.
Even if that doesn’t work, the girls are still planning their first new album in 10 years, telling reporters at the Mobo Awards in Liverpool:
“We’re going to still sound like TLC, evolving to whatever level we need to be at this time.”
What do you think about a new TLC album? Would you buy a ticket to see TLC on tour with a Left-Eye hologram?
Gone But Not Forgotten: Artists Who Need a Hologram Tour
Yesterday, when the video of the hologram Tupac performing at Coachella started spreading around the internet, people had one of three reactions. They thought: 1.) This is the so super cool. 2.) This is so super creepy. or 3.) This is so super creepy but still very cool. I was with the first group of people but I will admit when Pac’s hologram disintegrated into dust, I felt myself starting to get a little misty. But once I had gotten over my sadness, I thought, as soon as folks figure out how to manufacture these holograms a less expensively, money will be made.
Tupac certainly won’t be the last artist to be hologramed. And if I have any say in the matter, I’d like to see the following folks be digitally (?) resurrected. Before I enrage anybody with this list, let me preface it by saying that it is not exhaustive and I chose the following people, based on who I would want to see perform, most likely for impeccable dance moves or undeniable stage presence. If your favorite deceased artist is not on this list, please don’t snap. Just add their name to the comments section. So without further ado, let’s get to it.

Whitney Houston
It’s no surprise that Whitney was not a dancer. She had the type of voice that you could just listen to, no distractions needed. But just because Whitney didn’t break it down on stage, doesn’t mean that she didn’t command it There’s so much passion and conviction in her performances that it would be great to see her, even if she’s just a hologram, again

Michael Jackson
There is a reason why the This is It became the highest grossing concert movie and documentary in the history of cinema. People, all over wanted to see Michael perform again, even if it was just him rehearsing. Not to mention, the movie was very well made. During it’s theatrical run, the movie grossed $261 million dollars. If you had the opportunity to watch an eerily accurate depiction of Michael singing and dancing the way only he knew how, surely you wouldn’t pass it up.

James Brown
There would be no Michael, as we know him, if there were no James Brown. As you can clearly see from the picture above, James did not play when it came to his stage performances. The sweat that used to pool on his forehead is enough to let you know that the man truly earned the title of the “hardest working man in show business.” Plus I would have loved to see him fling that cape off his back.

Otis Redding
This may seem like a bit of a wildcard but I have some evidence that just might change your mind. Ladies and gentlemen, exhibit A.:
That’s a showman right there. Anytime you’ve got blonde, white girls looking like they’ve caught the holy ghost, that’s good stuff.
Awesomeness! Tupac [Hologram] Performs at Coachella

More and more it seems like Coachella is the place to be. As if performances from some of the biggest names in music weren’t enough, they are proving that they’re on the cutting edge of technology. Last night, rappers from different generations, including Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Eminem, Wiz Khalifa and Kendrick Lamar performed a “new school meets old school” set. And you can’t honor old school hip hop without talking about Tupac. But they didn’t just talk about Pac last night at Coachella, they brought him back, in the form of a hologram.
Check out the video of a portion of the performance below.

So after watching, what do you think? Is it awesome that we can convincingly watch “Tupac” perform again? Or is it a bit too real…and creepy? Mark my words, once people find a way to make the cost of producing holograms cheaper, there will be “Gone But Not Forgotten” tours featuring greats like Michael and Whitney. Technology is a trip.
