Bonjou! 8 Famous Folks You Might Not Have Known Were Creole
Let me be clear in saying, I’m talking Louisiana Creole descent. Sorry if you clicked and were looking for one of the many other kinds. But where was I?
Frenchcreole.com identifies Creole people as a broad cultural group of people of all races who share a French or Spanish background. No matter how you come to the conclusion that one is Creole (and please, let’s not get into the colorstruck aspects of it all), there are many people who identify as such, and they speak a wide variety of languages. In our random travels through the Internet (or da Intanetz as we like to call it), we were surprised to find a number of celebrities who are of the Louisiana Creole heritage. If you’re nosey like us, you probably want to know who. Check it out.

Sheila E.
Sheila Escovedo is hands down one of the coolest people to ever pick up a set of drumsticks and go to town on the drums, and if you didn’t know, she’s also of Mexican and Louisiana Creole heritage. Her father, famous drummer Pete Escovedo, is Mexican-American, while her mother, Juanita Escovedo (formerly Gardere), is French and black. I’ve been a fan since homegirl showed up in Krush Groove and dropped The Glamorous Life, but I can say that I didn’t know she was Creole…
Wah Gwan?: 9 People of Jamaican Nationality That Surprised Me
Okay, so a few weeks back I did a post on people that were of Nigerian background who just happened to shock and surprise me at one time or another. The response to that was big! A lot of people were surprised themselves, some people weren’t, others said I didn’t know my culture, yada, yada, yada. But a big response I got was from people asking for galleries with people of Jamaican background and more. So here we meet again, and I’ve compiled a list of folks that surprised me (probably because I’m NOT Jamaican) and that might surprise you too. Hope you enjoy! And if not, you suck. (kidding! It’s all love.)
Shout out to my Jamaican friend for giving me the title!
All My Nigerians: 7 People of Naija Descent That Surprised Me (At One Time or Another)
On my father’s side, my family is Nigerian. So many times, you can find me trying to claim a lot of other people as Nigerian, because in my mind, I like to pretend I’m an expert in these things (totally not). But it always trips me out when I find out that certain celebrities are Nigerian. Nowadays, it seems we’re everywhere! It’s usually obvious when you hear that someone’s name starts with a Ade-, Olu- or Temi-, but the following individuals, running around going by stage names and what not, have at some time or another, illuded my Nigerian senses. But now that I know, I thought I’d share. No worries, I’m probably going to come up with a list of Ghanaians, Jamaicans and a whole lot more soon enough. Enjoy!
