Each year the African-American Film Critics Association names its choices for the best faces in front of and behind the camera. This year, Denzel Washington has received one of the highest honors as Best Actor for his role as Whip Whitaker in Flight.
Alongside Washington, Emayatzy Corinealdi earned the Best Actress award for her work in Middle of Nowhere. The Ava DuVernay film was also was voted Best Screenplay and Best Independent Film.
“The selections made this year reflect the refreshing abundance of both studio and independent work that provided a stellar array of roles for both veteran actors and new faces,” said Gil Robertson IV, AAFCA’s president and founder.
Alright, Denzel! You can check out the rest of the honorees on Essence.
More, more, more! That’s what I think when I look at this brotha doing his thing in front of the camera. Los Angeles raised model Broderick Hunter is tall (6″2), dark (think smooth Godiva chocolate) and definitely handsome, and we’re excited at the prospect of seeing more of this body and face around. If Hunter is new to you, it’s about time you get acquainted with him and his good looks. Baby’s got it going on! Check him out…
As you can see, tonight’s Evening Eye Candy is on the white chocolate side. And not because we just felt it so necessary to change things up, but because, plain and simple, Ryan Gosling is HOT! If you think not, well, that’s cool, but since the days of The Notebook we’ve been giving him the subtle eye. But after films like Crazy, Stupid Love and even his heartbreaking turn in the film Blue Valentine, no more eye. We’re trying to get at that. The 31-year-old Academy Award nominated actor is smart, funny, muscular, and mad successful already. If that doesn’t pique your interest, then nothing will. Or maybe these photos might. Check it!
Sure, he seduced our senses as the stunning Sheriff Troy in Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married and Why Did I Get Married Too movies and gave us lots to laugh about in the sitcom Meet The Browns. Most fans can and will appreciate his fine acting chops, but there’s so much more to the man. For instance, he’s a founding member of the Black Gents of Hollywood, an all-Black male theatre company. The current production, Black Angels Over Tuskegee, is one of the longest running off-Broadway productions in New York City.
He’s a relationship coach, of sorts anyway, freely doling out sage advice to his female friends. “You have to know where to find us [men]. You have to know where to go and sometimes, pay a little more attention to some of the men right under your nose,” Lamman says. “We’re here.”
If you’re single and looking, take note. Lamman even recommends a few places to find brothers including the aforementioned theatre company and the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). He emceed a gala for the latter recently and happens to enjoy the company of mathematicians, engineers and scientists. Oh yes, he holds a Masters in IT and a Bachelor’s in education (image how exciting parent-teacher night was).
And alas, he’s co-founder of unisex signature body line called, forplai (forplai.com). “Often, a lot of bath and body products smell like flowers and vanilla. I’m not really trying to smell like [that],” Lamman says. With body butters and mists called passion and purity, it’s easy to image what his definition of for play and foreplay are. “The Banana Boat Song” singer, actor, and social activist, Harold George Bellanfanti, Jr., has done it all in his 84 years. He served in World War II in the Navy, received a Tony Award for his work on Broadway, performed with Miles Davis and Charlie Parker, became pals with Sidney Poitier and Martin Luther King, Jr., kissed Miss Piggy, and so on and so forth. The strong civil rights activist has also been known for his good looks throughout the years, and we can understand why. Check out our gallery of Mr. Belafonte and I’m sure you’ll understand to! (*wink*)
Hey, did you ever have the chance to watch that show Centric used to have called, Model City? No? Oh, okay. Well, if you had watched it, you would have had the chance to check out the very scrumptious Wendell Lissimore on the short-run series. Once called the “It boy,” Wendell has covered many fashion magazines, shooting for massive high-fashion brand Hermes and others, and he has made us drool with his love for speedo adorned photo shoots (check those abs, honey!). Now it’s time we introduce you to the hot tottie if you weren’t a fan of the show before, and find out the obvious reasons why all the brothers on there were envious of Mr. Lissimore.
