They say it’s never too late for love—or to get married for one California couple. On Leap Day, 95-year-old Lillian Hartley married her boo of 18 years, Allan Marks, in a brief civil ceremony at the Riverside County clerk’s office in Indio. What makes their day even more special is that if the verification goes through, Lilian and Allan will go down in the Guinness Book of World Records for the oldest combined age of a couple on their wedding day. Together, their age is 193.

Most people are curious why the couple decided to tie the knot after “living in sin” for so long, as Lilian joked, but she says the two simply never took time out of their busy schedules to make it official. Now that they are well beyond their golden years, she told Mydesert.com:

“I don’t know what will happen. I want to be together for all eternity, and I’m not taking any chances.”

The couple, who are both widowers from the East Coast, met at a temple in Palm Springs on Yom Kippur, the holiest Jewish holiday, back in ’94. Allan, who is a retired veterinarian from Brooklyn, complimented Lillian’s dress, and although the retired paralegal from Boston told him it was “just an old rag” she liked the compliment. The two have been inseparable ever since.

“I’m not deeply religious, but I just think it was meant to be,” Lillian said. “I didn’t want a relationship — I enjoyed my freedom — but he got me.”

Despite their love of travel, Lilian and Allan don’t have any honeymoon plans set—at least not any fancy ones.

“We celebrate every day,” Lillian said before adding, “I might go to Swiss Donut and have one of the nice donuts.”

They’re so sweet. Check out a video of their short ceremony here.

Could you imagine getting married in your 90s?

Blacks in the Book: 7 Interesting World Record Breakers

Last week Guinness released their latest edition of their annual edition detailing the records that have been broken over the past year. I, like countless others, have always been fascinated by the book and the people featured in it. Why? When I thought about it, I came up with two reasons. 1.) Many people are on a search to achieve their 15 minutes of fame and being featured in this book will certainly give it to you. 2.) The human is a very competitive animal and if we can’t be “the best” ourselves, we at least want to know who holds the title. Here are some particularly interesting record-breakers you might get a kick out of.
