Evening Eye Candy: Football Hunk Cam Newton

October 29th, 2012 - By Clarke Gail Baines

It wasn’t too long ago that we did a NFL Eye Candy gallery on some of the hottest men you should keep your eye out for in the league. And after doing a quick page on fine arse Cam Newton, a lot of readers were so impressed that we thought his cuteness was worthy of its own Evening Eye Candy gallery. The 23-year-old Carolina Panther quarterback and Heisman trophy winner has been much talked about and lauded over since he debuted in the NFL in 2011. We love his game on the field, but we especially like how much of a cutie patootie he is on AND off the field.

Some Things Just Get Better With Time: Denzel Tells GQ About His Father, Whitney Houston & His Message To Black Folk

If someone told you that Denzel Washington doesn’t have that “it” factor anymore, that he’s not as fine as he used to be, or that he’s no longer relevant, that person told you wrong. At 57, Denzel is still gorgeous, still insightful, with some advice for us all. Denzel sat down for an interview for the October issue of GQ and was surprisingly candid and honest about his life experiences, from his relationship with his parents, his past beef with director Quentin Tarantino to his thoughts on Whitney Houston’s passing. Check out highlights from the interview below.

On His First Job in the Barbershop

I was a paperboy. I was maybe 9. I faded on that quick. There’s no money in it. I was 11 or so when I started in the barbershop. That was great theater. Professional liars in a barbershop. There were a lot of father figures in there. I was there with grown men. You know, saying grown-men things. Listening to men talk and lie. I learned to hustle. If you came in, I looked at you like money. Okay, you’ve got good shoes? You might have a few dollars. I had a little side hustle where you brought your clothes on Saturday; I’d take them to the cleaners and deliver them at the end of the day. Fifty cents here, a dollar there. I was 13 and buying my own clothes. Working in that barbershop, learning how to tell stories…I learned how to act. [laughs]I miss it. I really dug that independence. My oldest daughter—I see her digging her independence. She doesn’t like me talking about it, but she’s working with Tarantino.

On Whitney Houston

Whitney was my girl, and she had done so well in recovery. And that is the toughest part about addiction.

GQ: Were you friends still?

Not “talk every month” friends, but I talked to her from time to time. And that was a monster drug that got ahold of her, it was a mean one. You can’t go back to that one. Nobody beats that. I look at people—and I don’t think I’m speaking out of line—Sam Jackson, I’ve known for thirty-some-odd years, he was down at the bottom. And he came all the way back. And when he cleaned up, he never looked back. But he can’t have that beer, because it might lead to the tough thing.

Whitney was such a sweet, sweet girl and really just a humble girl. You know, they made her this thing. She had a voice, obviously, but they packaged her into this whole whatever, but she was really just this humble, sweet girl. Me and Lenny [Kravitz], we were talking about her yesterday, and it’s more of an example to me or the rest of us to keep it together. I was listening to her song “I Look to You.” It’s prophetic. Maybe I’m speaking out of line. Maybe she thought she could have one. And then the next thing you know, her body was betraying her. She didn’t know that her body was aging quickly. She couldn’t take it. Your body can only take so much. Some people survive [Hollywood and fame], and some people don’t.

His Message to African Americans

Take responsibility. One of the things that saddens me the most about my people is fathers that don’t take care of their sons and daughters. And you can’t blame that on The Man or getting frisked. Take responsibility. Look in the mirror and say, “What can I do better?” There is opportunity; you can make it. Whatever it is that you choose, be the best at it. You have an African-American president. You can do it. But take responsibility. Put your slippers way under your bed so when you get up in the morning, you have to get on your knees to find them. And while you’re down there, start your day with prayer. Ask for wisdom. Ask for understanding. I’m not telling you what religion to be, but work on your spirit. You know, mind, body, and spirit. Imagine—work the brain muscle. Keep the body in tune—it’s your temple. All things in moderation. Continue to search. That’s the best part of life for me—continue to try to be the best man.

I don’t know about you, but after looking at this man, I’m certain that I need more chocolate in my diet and in my life. BJ Williams is beautiful! This brotha with his light eyes and sparkling smile is the type of model we need more of in the magazines, and his abs are extra proof of that! The model hailing from Las Vegas is on the come-up, appearing in ads for the likes of Sean John, Levis, and doing spreads for GQ, Ebony and more over the years. If you’re trying to see what he’s working with, you’re welcome to click through this slideshow (though I know how you all are about slideshows…). We promise you won’t be disappointed by this delectable piece of man meat!

It certainly doesn’t have to be Black History Month to celebrate the achievements of some of yesterday’s, today’s and always classic superstars. This time we take a quick journey in the entertainment and sports fields (with maybe a little taste of “spice” on one or two of them). Of course, you’ll know some of them but what I’d REALLY love is if you’d add some in the comments section that maybe some of us didn’t know. Each one teach, one!

Evening Eye Candy: Baller Andre Iguodala

Gotta love playoff time! Not only because the games are such intense nail-biters, but also because of all the fine men that run across our TV screens. Am I right? There are many standout hotties on the teams left in the playoffs, but today I thought we’d profile the very athletic and muscular Andre Iguodala, a small forward for the Philadelphia 76ers (currently going head to head with the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference). Most only know him for his talents, but did you know he was a piece of eye candy too? Check him out!

This Right Here’s a Panty Dropper: D’Angelo Looks Delicious in GQ

*Waits for the bandwagon fans to start running back*

If you ever doubted that D’Angelo would get back into tip-top shape, both musically and physically, kick yourself. In his first real magazine spread since he last did press for the Voodoo album, D’Angelo is looking as he should: a little older, but a lot of fine. Despite the shocking mugshots we were exposed to after his run-ins with the law over the last few years (my corneas still burn), these few images today of the man behind the neo-soul music we bumped so hard are definitely pleasing to the eye. Thanks GQ!

The singer gets all suit and tie fresh on us for the shoot, and even gives us a bit of that wonderful gaze (and those lips!) that we like to see. I could do without the cigarette in the first shot, but it’s not something I would kick him out of the bed for (as long as he didn’t bring the cigarette into the bed…). As you can tell, I’m glad he’s looking delicious, but I’m more glad to hear the new music he plans to drop soon. His few features on songs with folks like Common and Q-Tip, as well as his own song “I Found My Smile Again” during his reclusive period were nice, but I need an album, boo! Until we can get that in stores, don’t forget that D will be a headliner at this year’s Essence Fest, so you’ll have a chance to see this brown sugar in real time and jam like it’s 1995 again. Pick up the June issue of GQ to get your fix of this beautiful man, and find out what he has to say about the music industry, and how the “Untitled (How Does It Feel?)” video hurt him as a musician. Here’s a quick excerpt courtesy of the illustrious men’s magazine that is GQ:

“One time I got mad when a female threw money at me onstage, and that made me feel like f-cked-up, and I threw the money back at her. I was like, ‘I’m not a stripper.’”

On the last day of the eight-month tour, Questlove says D’Angelo told him, “Yo, man, I cannot wait until this f-cking tour is over. I’m going to go in the woods, drink some hooch, grow a beard, and get fat.” Questlove thought he was joking. “I was like, ‘You’re a funny guy.’ And then it started to happen. That’s how much he wanted to distance himself.”

What do you think of D’Angelo’s look? Still got it or no thanks?

Evening Eye Candy: Pharrell Williams

Producer, composer, fashion designer, art enthusiast. Pharrell Williams is a little bit of everything, including hot stuff. He’s been doing big things since he helped write Teddy Riley’s verse on the epic track, “Rump Shaker.” He’s even found a way to help design accessories for Louis Vuitton, on top of heading his popular brand, Billionaire Boys Club, and still making the hottest tracks for anybody who is…anybody (he even composed the music for Despicable Me for goodness’ sakes!). He’s my boo, and I thought I’d share his awesome-ness with you. Enjoy!

Drake Tells GQ He’s Done Sleeping With Random Women

March 14th, 2012 - By Brande Victorian

Source: GQ

Ok, he didn’t say that exactly, but Drake did imply that he’s slept with a lot of women since he made his debut in the rap game—as evidenced by the countless video chicks he’s been linked to. And now Drizzy says he’s finally pumped the brakes on meaningless sex.

Drake covers the April issue of GQ magazine, which features the rapper in its first-ever style bible, and somehow the interview went from style to sex, with Drake saying this about his bed-hopping:

“There’s just a time where it was like, just getting *****. Where I was in that sort of ‘I’m young, I’m going to disconnect from my emotions and just do what everyone else tells me I should do and just be a rapper and have my fun.’ And for me as a person, it just doesn’t work. I just need something else.

“The seconds after a man reaches climax, that’s like the realest moment of your life. If I don’t want you next to me in that fifteen, twenty seconds, then there’s something wrong.”

Hmmm. We know Drake is always in his emotions, but it is a little refreshing to hear a rapper say he wants to do more than bag a different woman after every show. Of all the trends these guys set, let’s see if this one catches on.

Do you think Drake’s really done sleeping around or is he just saying what women want to hear?

So Ambitious: Trey Songz Wants to be a Modern-Day Marvin Gaye

February 29th, 2012 - By Brande Victorian
Share to Twitter Email This

Source: GQ

Trey Songz has been making his rounds through the media circuit as he prepares to drop his next album, “Chapter V,” this year. In an upcoming feature for the March issue of GQ, he ditches the t-shirts and jeans and shows us his fashion sense in a 10-page spread on “The Most Important Items In Your Wardrobe.”

Beyond swtichting up his fashion style with fitted sports jackets, dress shirts, and ties, Trey also talks about possibly switching up his music style. He told GQ, he’d like to follow in the footsteps of Marvin Gaye and make music that matters, and he also explains why he likes to keep some things about himself private. Here’s what he said:

On making music that makes a difference
“I could make a hundred “Bottoms Up’s but they won’t change nobody’s life. Marvin Gaye sang love songs to a certain point, and then it was like, ‘F*** this; I’m not clean-cut no more. I’m putting this skully on, letting this beard grow out, and I’m doing whatever the f*** I wanna do.”

Whether he’ll change up his style
“I might. Give me a couple of years, though.”

On social networking as an artist
“What made Prince, Prince is, you didn’t know sh-t about him. As an artist, you need a persona, a mystique. When you step into Twitter, Facebook, all of that, you’re giving a piece of it away.”

Trey’s style has already changed dramatically from his “I just gotta make it days.” Guess we’ll have to wait and see who he morphs into next.

Do you want to see Trey switch it up for his next album?

We Found Andre 3000! And He Says a New OutKast Album Isn’t Happening…

February 28th, 2012 - By madamenoire

If you were like me, hoping and wishing for another OutKast album that you could jam to like Speakerboxxx/The Love Below (let’s be real, Idlewild was just okay), you’ll have to keep holding your breath. I’m all for the duo going out and producing solo projects since that’s all they’ve been doing for years, well, Big Boi at least, but the way they talk you would think the group is pretty much dunzo.

In an interview with GQ, Mr. Three Stacks, who has been pretty MIA lately (we missed you in that “Party” video, sir!) resurfaced to talk about his new sponsorship deal with Gillette of all people, the resurrection of his clothing line Benjamin Bixby (now just Bixby), his upcoming solo album, and why another Outkast album won’t be happening in the near future.

This is what he had to say about the possibility of an OutKast album and what he’s been doing since he pretty much went in hiding (I just call like I see it…or don’t see it):

There’s been a lot of talk on the Internet about an OutKast album and I have to say that as of now, there are no plans for another OutKast album. I’ve been privileged to have these new artists kind of reach out and grab back and say, “Hey, Andre, we want you on this song.” So I’ve been taking those calls and for the last two years, I’ve been doing collaborations. So these new artists have kind of been keeping me alive. I’ve just really been feeding off of that and this year I think I’m planning to do a solo project. I don’t know when it will come out, but hopefully it’ll come out this year. As far as OutKast, I really don’t know if or when that will happen.

Asked about what the new album will sound like that he’s doing by his lonesome, he’s not too sure yet, but he knows that making it will be fun:

The only thing I can really say is I’m going to get back to having fun because that’s what it was all about when I started this in high school—with OutKast—those were like high school dreams. I’m 36 now, so I have grown-man dreams. This album will just be me being myself as normal.

It’s been years and I haven’t even seen Big Boi and Andre 3000 together, so this worries me. But I guess as long as they’re still making some kind of music that’s a good thing–even if it’s not together. Right?
Would you like to see OutKast come back out with something new soon? Let us know below! And check out the rest of his GQ interview HERE.
