Style to Steal or Girl, Stop: Solange Knowles & Ashanti Get Evening Gown Fresh

Last night in NYC, R&B divas Solange Knowles and Ashanti hit the red carpet for a good cause. They attended the 6th annual DKMS Linked Against Blood Cancer gala in their most fabulous evening gowns, and caught everybody’s attention for their looks (and for their arm candy–we see you with Nelly again Ms. Ashanti!). Let’s take a look at their fly fashions from last night and figure out if their looks are steal-worthy, or if they should have stopped.

Solange took over the red carpet last night in this flawless white structural gown that was simple up top, but very detailed from the waist on down. The extra material around the hips opened to get back to a sleek skirt with a gorgeous train, and she accessorized with a gold cuff that matched the gold-plated piece in the middle of the gown. Looks like she kept the makeup to an absolute minimum, and left the fro at home to straighten her locks and wear them in a neat bun.

I think Solange looks pretty freaking amazing. While white gowns with little beading, color or accessories can often come off dull, this one without all that seems more on the funky and futuristic side. The minimal jewelry is also a genius touch. She rocked it. Again. Steal.

Style to Steal or Girl, Stop: Rihanna, Ciara and Solange’s Form-Fitting and Fun Ensembles

Ri-Ri, Ci-Ci and So Lo were all over the world yesterday working hard for their money (or looking good for the hell of it), and we’re going to check out their style choices and determine if they are fantastic or fashion fails. Time to hop to it!

Say what you want about Rihanna, but the girl knows what works for her figure. And she didn’t play herself in this olive dress that she wore in London yesterday for the Battleship photocall. She paired the dress with some pointed-toe black heels (me smell Louboutins…), a cool twisted bangle, and some large gold hoops. I can actually appreciate the simplicity of it all, and the bangs with the soft curls are a smart touch. It’s classy, but still a risque Rihanna look. Steal!

Style to Steal or Girl, Stop: June Ambrose, La La Anthony & Adrienne Bailon

Color them bad!

The weather is starting to look up (and also going through its usual mood swings), so it seems some of the big names are ditching dark colors, or mixing them with shades that pop! The following ladies definitely did, and now it’s time to figure out if we’re feeling their frocks, or if they’re freaking ridiculous. Let’s get to it!

As a super stylist, it’s June Ambrose’s job to make sure she looks fabulous. If not, that wouldn’t be good for her brand, right? Well, she surely didn’t disappoint in this long-sleeved dress while leaving a taping of the “Wendy Williams Show” in NYC.  The dress was this bright and bold yellow with a bleeding print screen (like when you mix milk with food coloring) all over. The dress was classy as it came over the knee, and she finished it off with these sickening taupe stilettos with an adorable bow and a big brown leather satchel. I like that the dress is gathered at the neck, and that she mixed up bright colors with naturals. And her hair is whipped! Steal it.

Style to Steal or Girl, Stop: Rihanna’s VERY Revealing Sweater & Estelle’s Artistic Dress

It sure was an interesting weekend when it comes to the fashion choices of some of our favorite stars. If you don’t believe a sistah, check out the photos of Rihanna and Estelle below (though Rihanna’s look is from today actually) and tell us if you would steal these ladies looks or if they should stop.

Looks like Rihanna was just as confused by this warm meets breezy NYC weather as we are, because while walking the streets today, she put on this scandalous see-through sweater and jeans as photogs snapped away. But there was no way to hide once she was out on the sidewalk (though she tried). She paired the confuzzled sweater with a pair of ripped-up blue jeans that were rolled at the bottom, Timberland boots, a large gold cuff, hoops and a thin gold necklace, as well as some paparazzi-ready shades and her signature claw-like nails.

Style to Steal or Girl, Stop: Cassie’s Vibrant Paris Fashion Week Looks

And when I say vibrant, boy do I mean vibrant. Alicia Keys wasn’t the only one stepping out and showing out for Paris Fashion Week in the City of Lights, aka, the most romantic place on earth (conveniently she was there with Diddy). Check out her multiple looks from her time in the city this week and let us know if you would steal her looks, or if homegirl should stop it.

For the Givenchy Ready-to-Wear show on March 4, Cassie brought out her best fur and found a way to really jazz up an all-black look. From the simple ankle-strap heels, black skirt, and loose blouse, she stayed with the black is beautiful look. The accessories really made her outfit pop. Aside from that fur stole/cape, check out the fly pointy manicure and Alexander McQueen clutch. She also went with a sharp cat eye and minimal jewelry.

Style to Steal or Girl, Stop: Alicia Keys Gets Black & White Fab for Paris Fashion Week

It’s a new week and time once again to critique the fashions of our favorite ladies. While it’s cold and dull around these parts, it’s Fashion Week in Paris, and anybody who is somebody is sitting front row for all the festivities. Our girl A.Keys is one of those somebodies, and it’s time to figure out if her style picks were worth stealing or stopping.

How comfortable does she look? Who needs to throw on the most scandalous of dresses and have everything out when you can still look alluring in a menswear-inspired ensemble? Keys stepped out for the Givenchy fashion show and afterparty last night in this crisp white button up top, sleek white tuxedo jacket and cigarette slim black dress pants. She finished the look off with hot black sandals and a spiked cross statement necklace. She left the hair down and the makeup to a minimum.

Style to Steal or Girl, Stop: Scandalous and Fly Outfits From Zoe, Naomi, Rih-Rih & More

We’re rounding up some of the most interesting looks of the week to see what you gals think about these celeb fashion choices. Are they worth stealing, or do these ladies need to stop it? Let’s start with Miss Adrienne Bailon…

Talk about controversy. Bailon showed up to Caesars Entertainment’s “Escape to Total Rewards” event in NYC last night in a dress that showed off more than her curves. It was a creamed color number with a large pieced of ruched material covering her ladybits. Too bad that while being snapped by photogs, a wind blew and those same ladybits were exposed–sans underwear. The bottom of the dress was sheer, but the back had black beading details to leave something to the imagination. She did her best with a cropped leather jacket and some see-through booties to finish it. Nice try, and the dress was kind of cute, but for not throwing something over your cooch, you get a stop it!

Style to Steal or Girl, Stop: Toni Braxton’s Revealing Gowns

Toni’s been really feeling herself lately, ya’ll! And we don’t blame her, she still looks great (not that she would be looking bad at 44). The beautiful star hit the stage and the red carpet in some pretty revealing ensembles this week, and we’ve got the lowdown on them both. We want to know which you prefer (if you actually end up liking one more than the other).

For a recent performance at the Nokia Theatre in LA during a concert, she opted out of something short and sassy and went for something colorful and long. Rocking a high-waisted gown by House of Chapple on Sunday, she did her thing for the crowd and had jaws dropping. In a bright purple Prince would be proud of, the dress was sheer and funky with dizzying prints and sequins all over. But I’m sure your eyes are on that shocking split on the side. Not only did it show off her underwear (or possibly the lower half of a bodysuit underneath), but it also showcased her strappy, sparkly heels. Very over the top, but that’s Toni’s style, you know?

Style to Steal or Girl, Stop: Taraji P. Henson

"Taraji P. Henson"

It has been a minute since I’ve seen Taraji hit the red carpet in her Sunday through Saturday best, but she stepped out recently for the premiere of New Year’s Eve in New York City and definitely had heads turning. Let’s see if it was in a good way or not.

Girlfriend showed up and showed out in this very holiday-licious outfit. She strolled in the building in a long sleeve, kelly-green blouse. The neckline had a cinched chiffon thing going on and the fluted sleeves were very wispy and delicate. She tucked that top inside of a fitted black skirt with elaborate stitching detail and a patent leather belt with an ornate buckle. On her feet were suede red pumps that gave her some height (as well as her calves), and her jewelry was very minimal with a large cocktail ring and small studded earrings. Her hair was pretty laid and full of sheen and body, and the makeup was fun with a wine-colored lipstick. From her lips to her top to her toes, she was obviously in the Christmas spirit.

I have mixed feelings on this look. Aside from the belt and the shoes, which I possibly would have switched out or worn in leather, I think it’s a tasteful but fun look. The tucked in top reminds me of something I would wear to a business meeting or a networking event, and the hair is pretty fly.  However, the lipstick is a little dark for my tastes, but as always, Taraji definitely looks cute! As I stated, there are certain things that could have worked better with this look, but I wouldn’t say stop it. I won’t steal it either, but I think the outfit base is fly, it’s just the accessories that could use some work. But all things considered, she looks good.

What do you think of Taraji’s look? Let us know below!

Style to Steal or Girl, Stop: Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj & Tamar Braxton

November 9th, 2011 - By MN Editor

It’s a new day, and alas, it is time to celebrate or skewer the style moves of our favorite celebs. So let’s not waste any time!

Mariah Carey

Well, well, well…someone may have lost a crazy amount of weight in a short time, but I see the momma of #dembabies hasn’t lost her penchant for spandex everything. Carey showed up at a Jenny Craig event today, touting her new role as the brand’s ambassador, in this long spaghetti-strapped number in a strawberry red. No belt, no necklace on top of it, no flash…She wore the dress with strappy platform heels in a red that I must admit is a bit darker than her dress, and finished the look with some bright bling on her fingers and some hoop earrings. The hair stayed down with a good ‘ol middle part and some soft curls near her ends, and the makeup was chill. So uh…doesn’t Mariah have money? Sorry if I sound like a jack butt, but ever since she decided to start dressing more risque as her age has increased, her style has been all spandex, all the time. I know this chick’s body is smoking right now, so why not do better than this? We know it’s just a Jenny Craig event, but damn…Sorry boo, congrats on the weight loss, but I’m going to have to give this a girl, stop.

Tamar Braxton

In NYC yesterday for the premiere of season two of Braxton Family Values, little sis Tamar had all eyes on her (probably because Toni didn’t show up…) in this fanciful blue number. It’s a different look, I’ll give her that. I see that she’s trying to go for an edgy look, and she seems pretty satisfied and confident in it. But there is A LOT going on right now. The dress seems to be a light blue flirty cocktail number that’s ruffled at the bottom and comes in at the waist. The shirt underneath it (which could be attached) is a royal blue sheer top with a tie at the neck. She has on some ornate black tights underneath her blueberry look, and kicks it in white and black booties that have a zipper detail and show off a little toenail. She finishes it all off with beaded bangles, a big ‘ol watch and some straight hair with choppy bangs. Whew! Real talk, everything might work if the pieces for this ‘fit were worn SEPARATELY. Until that happens, this chick gets a girl, stop for trying her hardest to look like an A-list celeb in a Rainbow outfit.

Nicki Minaj

COLOR! That’s what I think when I look at this get-up. Last night, Minaj hit up the Versace for H&M show in NYC, where she also performed to help launch the fashion house’s partnership with the popular retailer. She showed up in true Nicki form: as always, big, BIG hair, and big ‘ol heels. This time though, the ‘fit wasn’t as horrid as you would think. Rocking what looked to be a Versace combination, she wore a long sleeve rhinestone embellished top with open slits around the shoulders. The bottoms to the outfit were similar: fitted, colorful, adorned with flowery details and of course, there were more rhinestones. She kicked up her heels in sky-high color-block stilettos, wore big baubles on her fingers, a large cat choker around her neck, and some more jewels atop her bangs. You will be shocked, but I give this a style to steal. While I wouldn’t wear something like this the way she did, this is definitely one of Minaj’s better looks. Instead of putting any ‘ol thing together per the usual, this actually matches in some way. I don’t know the way, but you can figure that out. I say just ditch that big a** wig (we couldn’t get the cute bob?), the tacky choker and we’ve got a winner…

Which looks do you like? Which do you loathe?
