While some people watch movies and quietly root for the villain (no lie, I thought Bane in The Dark Knight Rises was bad a**!), many of us do the complete opposite–we watch these cocky, disrespectful, distasteful and often violent characters with disgust. Some are so good at being bad that we equate the actors with these characters for a long time, and some are eerily effective, to the point that you watch the character, act like you know them, and scoff at the fact that you dislike them so much. If you ever say, “UGH!” when you watch these movies, or shake your head at these characters a few times, then you’ll probably agree that they were villains you loved to hate.

If you watched just 30 minutes of The Family That Preys and viewed Lathan as Andrea, you were probably just as sick of her as we were. She was a conniving cheater, dogging out her hard-working and fine man (Rockmond Dunbar) for the town’s stuck-up socialite and trust-fund baby. And in the end, she revealed that *SPOILER* the son her husband thought was his blood was a product of her affair. She didn’t even look remorseful at all! Who else wanted to reach through the screen and shake her real good???

Everyone’s favorite smooth movie villain may not be so smooth when it comes to the ladies. Actor Clifton Powell, better known as Pinky to the “Friday” fans, has been accused of raping a Louisiana woman last year and now she wants him to pay up.

Under the pseudonym Kiyante Myers, the woman filed a suit claiming Clifton raped her in a hotel room in August 2011. As TMZ reports:

According to the suit, Myers claims she initially consented to sex with Powell … but when it turned rough, she asked him to stop … and he refused.

Instead, she claims, Powell placed his hands over her face and raped her.

TMZ has learned … Myers went to cops about the incident last year … and an investigation was conducted. But cops didn’t feel there was enough evidence to prove Powell committed a crime and they closed the case against the actor.

Myers has now taken her claims to federal court in Louisiana, where she’s seeking damages in excess of $75k.

I don’t know about you, but $75,000 is awfully small compensation for being an alleged victim of such a heinous crime. Something seems a bit off with that claim, not to mention the fact that police dismissed the incident altogether.

Similarly, Clifton’s rep is dismissing the validity of Kiyante’s suit, saying:

“Mr. Powell absolutely denies these false accusations and plans on pursuing all legal remedies available to him against his accuser.”

Let’s hope the truth — whatever that is — prevails.

Somewhere down the line, people began devouring movies for entertainment purposes, solely, and failed to understand underlining life lessons offered by films. Simply because a movie has you buckling over with laughter or rocking on the edge of your seat in fear, it doesn’t mean that you can’t learn the importance of honesty, the value of love or the fulfillment of intellect.

Sadness. “Friday” fans have been holding out for the next part of this ongoing series since the “Friday After Next” 10 years ago. Earlier this year, Ice Cube said the fourth flick would definitely be happening and he would even get Chris Tucker on board, but when a poster for the supposed new movie, “Last Friday,” hit the web over the weekend, Mike Epps had to step in and set the record straight. He wrote on Twitter:

THAT last friday s**t THEY PUT up IS fake WE not doin s**t until New Line SAY SO! THAT last friday TWITTER account IS fake WE dont Know HIS A** unfollow HIS A**! GROUPIE

OK ‘den. Mike’s tweet doesn’t totally put another sequel out of the realm of possibility, but the question is what does New Line have to say about all this. They don’t see to be moving too quickly to get production started.

Denzel: “Yeah, it was a REAL look. Like what the f***!? [laughs]”

Ryan: “Well, if it was your first on-set black eye, I’m glad it was by an apologetic Canadian.”

If you’ve seen any of the advertisements and TV spots for the new film Safe House starring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds, and read the above correspondence, you probably noticed two things: for one, there is clearly a lot of eye candy for women of all ages in this film, okay? But secondly, there is a whole lot of action, including black-eye inducing car accidents like the one mentioned above, that will keep you fully engaged and sucked in. People are running on the tops of houses in the film, getting caught up in the craziest and most visually insane car chases (Ryan actually drove in a few of those scenes), there are knife fights, actual waterboarding (which Washington says he did with NO stunt double), knock down, drag out, swinging brawls…and Denzel. Sounds like a great Friday night flick right?

The two charming and charismatic actors went in depth about their characters during a press junket about the new film recently. Reynolds plays Matt Weston, the sitter of a South African safe house in which criminals are held for interrogation and protection. When his safe house is attacked by rebels hoping to capture ex-CIA agent Tobin Frost, Weston goes from simple house sitter to a pseudo-agent trying to track down, battle, and often protect Frost. Washington plays the rogue agent, who is both calculated, and at times, pretty sociopathic while trying to escape capture from the agency he turned his back on. In preparing for the role, Washington says he worked with CIA operatives and studied the behavior of sociopaths.

“There are different kinds of sociopaths, and they don’t have to all be violent. Many can just like to create chaos because it’s simply a power thing. A sociopath will do anything to win.”

And he sure does. Frost lies, imitates others, kills and goes through a lot more to be victorious in his complex situation. He’s the ultimate bad guy, but he’s bad for good reasons (I can’t go in depth as to why, you’ll have to find out on your own). If you’ve been pining to see Denzel go from good to bad again (because we loved it in Training Day and so did the Academy), but also want to see him get his Street Fighter on like in The Book of Eli, here’s your opportunity. There are so many twists and turns and acts of betrayal in this film, I found myself with the bug eyes many a time (until a swift knee in the back of my chair knocked me back into my senses). Plus, the small side story surrounding Weston’s relationship issues is intriguing–and so is that body Reynolds has may I add!

All in all, Safe House is a pretty good piece of work. I’m not a die-hard action fan so I didn’t go in with the highest expectations–however, I was pleasantly surprised. Aside from a few slower moments of talking every now and again, it’s very entertaining and will keep your attention throughout its 117 minutes. And even if you were to go in that joint sleepy, there’s no way you would you find yourself knocked out. There’s too much intense action and noise for all that. Oh yeah, and hotness…

I can’t keep track of how many Friday’s have gone by since Ice Cube and Chris Tucker’s original 1995 hit, but I think a month has passed by now; and Ice Cube is getting ready to produce another one.

According to TMZ, a rep for Cube Vision Productions told them, “Absolutely, yes the studio is in the process of getting the entire original cast to do another ‘Friday.’”

“[Ice Cube] is very excited about this and has every intention to make it happen.”

I know some folks who we haven’t seen act in a minute have to be excited about this too. I have no idea what they’ll call this film after “Friday,” “Next Friday,” and the “Friday After Next,” but how excited are you for a fourth “Friday?

It never fails. If it is your born day, aka, the day that is your birthday, black folks are going to sing or play the version of “Happy Birthday” by Stevie Wonder. While that track was created to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., everybody and their mothers breaks it out when they find out it’s someone’s special day. And that’s how it is.
