Like Father, Like Son: Coolio’s Kid Sentenced Up To 10 Years For Robbery With A Prostitute

Coolio’s adult son Grtis has taken after his father in more ways than one, and unfortunately they’re not all good. The 22-year old has just been given a hefty prison sentence stemming from a 2011 incident and from the time he was given, it will be a good while before he sees life from outside prison bars.

A rep for the Clark County District Attorney’s office tells TMZ, 22-year-old Grtis was sentenced to serve between 42-120 months in prison — meaning he has to serve at LEAST 42 months … but if the Nevada Department of Corrections finds good reason, it can hold him for up to 10 years.

As we first reported, Ivey was arrested on November 14, 2011 for busting into a Las Vegas apartment with a gun and forcing the tenant into the bathroom … while his female prostitute friend ransacked the place.

Ivey agreed to plead guilty to felony robbery — and in exchange, prosecutors dropped the remaining felony charges.

Ivey has been in custody since his arrest and will receive credit for time served.

Just two years ago, big daddy Coolio was looking at prison time himself when a judge issued a $10,000 bench warrant when he failed to show up in court. Coolio was able to escape arrest but his son hasn’t been so lucky. Hopefully they can both get it together over the next 42 months.

‘Gangsta of Love’ Gets 32 Years for Not Telling Partners HIV Status

Andre Davis, a Cincinnati wrestler who goes by the stage name “Gangsta of Love” was sentenced to 32 years in prison yesterday for having sex with women and not informing them that he had tested positive for HIV.

The 29-year-old was convicted in November when prosecutors said he violated state law by not telling a dozen sex partners about his HIV status. On Monday, Davis told the judge he is a sex addict and that his addiction grew worse when he lost his dream of becoming a professional wrestler after contracting HIV. In July 2009,World Wrestling Entertainment told Davis they wouldn’t hire him because he failed a physical and tested positive.

Davis claimed he didn’t tell anyone about his status because he didn’t want his family to know, saying “I a not a monster,” but the prosecution shot back, calling him “A manipulative man and a liar.”

Medical privacy laws prevented attorneys from mentioning whether or not other women had contracted the virus from Davis, but his attorney argued that the state law regarding HIV and felonious assault is poorly written because it doesn’t require proof that there has been harm or an attempt to commit harm. After Monday’s sentencing, he told the Associated Press he would file an appeal on Davis’ behalf.

Do you think 32 years is a sufficient sentence for Andre Davis?

Scott Sisters Not Included in Mississippi Governor’s Pardon

January 13th, 2012 - By Brande Victorian

In his last 48 hours in office, Mississippi governor Haley Barbour pardoned 208 convicts, but left two women off the list: Jamie and Gladys Scott.

Efforts to free the Scott sisters have been going strong for over a decade, and last year, the sisters were paroled from prison after serving 16 years of a life sentence on the condition that Gladys donate a kidney to Jamie. Although the sisters are no longer living behind bars, they say they are still far from free, having to report to a parole officer once a month. And with a felony charge on their record for armed robbery, they say it’s hard to find a job.

“I have to report to the Mississippi Department of Corrections for the rest of my life for a crime I didn’t commit,” Gladys Scott told the Associated Press. “I guess if I had been a murderer, he would have pardoned me.”

An attorney for the sisters says the failure to pardon them is puzzling considering Gov. Barbour granted clemency to dozens of other convicts, including three murderers.

“It is very contradictory to me … that you got people accused of killing people, burning their bodies and all that kind of stuff, killing pregnant people, who are walking free without any restrictions, and the Scott sisters don’t have that kind of freedom,” Chokwe Lumumba told reporters.

Gov. Barbour claims that many people didn’t understand his choice in who he pardoned, saying, “Approximately 90% of these individuals were no longer in custody, and a majority of them had been out for years.”

Lumumba says she plans to petition the state’s incoming governor, Phil Bryant, to pardon her clients. Meanwhile, the sisters have been told by doctors that they must first lose weight in order to undergo the kidney transplantation.

Do you find it odd that Gov. Barbour didn’t pardon the Scott sisters? Do you think the incoming governor Phil Bryant should grant them clemency?

Floyd Mayweather Gets 90 Days for Domestic Abuse

A little more than a year after felony allegations were brought against Floyd Mayweather for hitting his ex-girlfriend and threatening two of their children, the boxer has been given a 90-day jail sentence.

Floyd plead guilty to reduced battery domestic violence and harassment charges before a Las Vegas judge, allowing him to avoid trial. The 34-year-old was also ordered to complete 100 hours of community service and pay a $2,500 fine.

The prosecutor pushed for a strong punishment against Floyd, saying he’s had plenty of run ins with the law yet always manages to escape consequences.

“He just continually gets himself into trouble and he is able to get himself out of it as well. Essentially it is because he is who he is and is able to get away with everything.

“The only thing that’s going to get this man’s attention is incarceration,” Lisa Luzaich told Judge Melissa Saragosa.

Still, the judge said she was swayed by Floyd’s admission that he hit his ex-girlfriend and twisted her arm, and that two of their children, ages 9 and 10 witnessed the attack.

Floyd is expected to report to jail Jan. 6. Do you think 90 days will serve as enough of a wake-up call for Floyd and his invincible attitude?

Sex Crimes Reported on Campus Seldom Prosecuted as Felonies

December 6th, 2011 - By Brande Victorian

It’s often difficult for women, especially on college campuses, to report that they were victims of sexual assault, and low prosecution rates certainly don’t do much to convince women that coming forward is worth the shame and embarrassment they often feel.

A report into 16 colleges and universities in the Chicago area found that sex crimes reported on the campuses are rarely prosecuted as felonies. Out of more than 100 incidents reported since 2005, only 12 resulted in arrests, five in convictions, and most potential felonies were downgraded to misdemeanors—an act that is often viewed as an insult to victims.

“A misdemeanor battery is the same charge you’d get if you punched someone in the face,” Sharmili Majmudar, Executive Director of Rape Victim Advocates, told The Chicago Tribune. “To have any kind of conviction is something positive, I can’t deny that. But it’s such a qualified success. We’d like to see more felony charges.”

Earlier this year, The Tribune reported similar results from a June survey of six schools in Illinois and Indiana. Of the 171 reported sex crimes police investigated since 2005, there were only 12 arrests and four convictions.

The arrest and conviction rates in the Midwest and Cook County surveys were far below the average for rapes reported nationally, which suggests other states pursue sex crimes more aggressively, but it seems as though victims may be getting violated all over again in these cases which typically boil down to one person’s word against the others.

Did you often hear about sex crimes occurring on your college campuses? Were perpetrators ever convicted of their crimes? Why do you think the conviction rate is so low?

Sad: 9-Year-Old Girl Facing Felonies for Bus Tantrum

9 year old charged with felonies

A young girl racked up four felonies on her way home from school yesterday after she threw a fit on the yellow bus.

The 9-year-old reportedly spit on the bus driver, threw rocks at the bus, and tossed a patio chair at a cop, while warning, “I will f*****g kill you!” The cause? The driver told the Royal Palm School fourth grader to stop eating candy on the bus.

According to a Lee County Sheriff’s Office report, the girl “became very upset” and started yelling obscenities at driver Robert Middleton. (I’d say “very upset” is a huge understatement.) Officers charged the Fort Myers girl with battery on a public school employee, resisting arrest with violence, battery on a law enforcement officer, and throwing a deadly missile into an occupied vehicle.

After being released into her parents’ custody last night, the girl was placed on home detention for 21 days. I’d say anger management classes need to be a part of her penalty. Can you believe this little girl? I wonder how her parents’ disciplining measures compare to her varied means of attack.

Drunk Man Needs a Designated Driver, Enlists His 9-Year-Old Daughter

October 19th, 2011 - By madamenoire

Many of us have been there: you’ve either been asked to hold the burden of being the designated driver for the night, or you’ve had the tough task of duping someone into being the DD so you can ditch taxi fees. But it’s safe to say that you wouldn’t look at your child, whether they’re over 16 or not (who cares?), and say, “Honey, you’re taking the wheel tonight.” But a Michigan man proved how low he could go. The man had his 9-year-old daughter, boosted up in her seat, drive her father to a gas station at 3 a.m. on October 8. According to CNN, the man was seen and heard on surveillance tape telling the gas station attendant, “She drives us here. Nine years old, in the truck, we’re here. She drove all the way here.” What a proud dad, huh?

Once the two got back in the car, a witness called police. During the call, the man told police she was staying on the road,  using turn signals, and that he couldn’t believe it. Now, could he not believe that she was driving altogether, or that she was a GOOD driver? That is the question (kidding). In the end, the daddy and daughter were stopped. The father refused to take a breathalyzer, and he was charged with one felony count of child endangerment, a misdemeanor count of child abuse and habitual-offender fourth offense based on previous convictions, according to CNN.

Daddy wasn’t the only one pissed off about being stopped and arrested it seems. When the cops pulled the two over, the little girl said to police, “What did you stop me for? I was driving good.” Judge for yourself though, because video of the little one driving at the gas station has been provided below, thanks to the good

Jail Time for Sending Daughters to a Safer School?

January 26th, 2011 - By Veronica Wells

Like any good parent, Ohio mother, Kelley Williams-Bolar wanted a better and safer education for her two daughters, so she used her father’s address to allow the girls to attend a school in the highly ranked, predominately white Copley-Fairlawn School District.

School officials became suspicious and hired a private investigator to follow Williams-Bolar and her daughters. The investigator shot a video of her dropping her daughters off into the school district. The school officials confronted Williams-Bolar and asked that she pay $30,000 in school tuition; when she refused, they took her to court.

She was indicted for falsifying residency records, a felony, sentenced to 10 days in county jail and probation for the next three years. She’s also required to complete community service. After the ruling, the presiding judge, Patricia Cosgrove, said, “I felt that some punishment or deterrent was needed for other individuals who might think to defraud the various school districts.”

Something smells very foul here. It’s obvious Williams-Bolar was being used as an example for any other black…concerned parents who want their children to get a better education. Never mind that the girls’ grandfather paid taxes into the district.

Would you have done what Williams-Bolar did? Is the school right to protect its tax-paying families?
