Defense lawyers are seeking the school records of Trayvon Martin, the teenager shot to death earlier this year by George Zimmerman in a confrontation at a gated community in Florida, reports the Los Angeles Times. Zimmerman is facing a second-degree murder charge in the case.

In a post on the defense website, Zimmerman’s lawyers said they have sent subpoenas to schools attended by Martin, 17, who was killed Feb. 26. Zimmerman has maintained that he shot the unarmed Martin in self-defense.

“Our first request is a series of Subpoenas for Production of Documents requesting school records for Trayvon Martin,’’ according to the post by the law firm of Mark O’Mara, who represents Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer. The defense is also seeking posts by Martin on social media sites. Among the documents being sought are school discipline and suspension records.

From Eurweb.com

When it comes to the N-word, rapper Nas is down for using it by any means necessary it seems.

So, it should come as no surprise he has no problem with actress Gwyneth Paltrow using it as she did in her world rocking tweet last week. He says she has free reign to use it because “she’s a real n***a.”

“I would slap the s*** out of somebody for Gwyneth Paltrow,” Nas told (Atlanta’s) CBS Local. “She’s the homie, she’s cool. Gwyneth gets a pass. Real people get a pass. We know what this s*** is. We don’t interrupt Italians when they say ‘Wop’ to each other. They gonna punch you in the mouth if you interrupt that. Don’t interrupt us. We pick and choose.”

Sheila E. Says Music Healed Wounds From a Traumatic Childhood Incident

From Eurweb.com

One of the incredible things about being in this line of work is finding out things about people that you otherwise would have never known. Sheila told us about her charitable endeavor, which is no big surprise really. Many artists have charities. It’s a widely recognized tax shelter. But this one goes much deeper than that. Way deep!

“People can go online to my foundation,” she explained. “It’s called elevatehope.org. We raise money and use that to bring music to children in foster care. It’s to give them tools and give them hope to be creative and express themselves. One reason that’s important to me is because my Dad, for a couple years, he was left in an orphanage. Early on he put all our instruments in the car and said ‘As bad as we have it, even though we’re on welfare there’s always someone who is worse off than we are. So, let’s just go to these facilities and play for the kids and give them something. I know how it feels.’ My manager and I did Elevate Hope together. We found that the more people we talked to, more than half were molested or raped. I was raped at the age of 5 by a babysitter, and she was molested as well. Music was one of the healing parts of my life. It’s not like a book that we just read. We understand because we went through the same things. We know how music helped us to heal. Some of them have been so abused that they don’t know how to communicate and they don’t know how to express themselves. Music is a speaking piece for them to allow them to break down those barriers and those walls.”

From Eurweb.com

The male Ukrainian reporter who attempted to engage Will Smith in a lip lock at the Moscow premiere of “Men in Black 3” has apologized to the actor.

The star lost his cool when journalist Vitalii Sediuk tried to kiss him on the lips before the screening in Russia last week, and he shoved the man away and gave him a light back-hand across the face.

Now apologizing for his behavior, Sediuk tells HipHollywood.com, “I’m sorry, Will. It was a splash of emotion. I do apologize for my behavior. I think it was too much. Will Smith is a person who I deeply respect as an actor. When I met him in Moscow, I wanted to do something to impress him. We have a Slavic tradition.

Find out what the reporter says he’ll do if he sees Smith again and watch his interview over at Eurweb.com.

Queen Latifah Proud to Be Among “Her People” at Gay Pride Festival

By Dana Stringer

Queen Latifah arrived with her royal court to an amped and enthusiastic crowd of subjects summoned to celebrate the 29th Annual Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride Festival on Saturday, May 19.

The annual event held in Long Beach, California boasts of drawing approximately 100,000 attendees each year, making it the 2nd largest Pride festival in California and 4th largest in the nation. With such star power like Queen Latifah embracing this year’s event and taking the stage, attendance was presumably higher because everybody loves to see and hear a queen. And there was only one way for Her Highness to make her grand entrance, and that was upon the wings of rap hits like U.N.I.T.Y.and Ladies First.

Similar to the title of her 2003 film Bringing Down the House, Queen Latifah came hyped, energized and ready to do just that. She brought it in more ways than one, bridging songs with inspiring and encouraging words by telling the crowd to let their inner light shine in the world and to conquer hate with love.

It wasn’t just her Covergirl glow that radiated from the main stage and mesmerized festival goers; it was the light of her transparency emanating from within. The moment she uttered, I’ve been waiting to do this for a long time, the crowd knew she was prepared to reflect all sides of herself throughout her musical performance.

Huh, What? Newsweek Dubs President Obama “First Gay President”

Source: Eurweb.com

These magazines are getting more and more salacious as the days go on. First there was Time’s controversial breastfeeding cover and now Newsweek is following suit with a cover crowning President Obama as the “first gay president.” Clearly, President Obama is heterosexual so the cover with its headline is rubbing people the wrong way. One news anchor on CNN even argued that since some people still believe that the president is not a Christian and that he wasn’t born in this country, when he’s presented evidence to the contrary, is it really wise to make yet another false statement about him?

Let us know what you think about the cover and check out what the author of the cover story, openly gay political blogger Andrew Sullivan, had to say about President Obama’s announcement and what effect it had on him at Eurweb.com.

President Obama Raises $1 Million 90 Mins After Endorsing Gay Marriage

From Eurweb.com

*In the first 90 minutes after news of President Obama’s support of gay marriage Wednesday, his campaign banked $1 million in spontaneous contributions, according to BuzzFeed.

“This is beyond unifying — it’s electrifying,” said Eugene Sepulveda, a former fundraiser for Obama who withdrew to take a non-political job early this year. “This man stands for right, despite the political consequences.”

Jeff Soref, a longtime Democratic activist in the gay community, told BuzzFeed: “I think the people who were disappointed by the president’s failure to support marriage quality will now have that barrier removed for them.”

Indeed, top gay donors have been using their expensive access to bend Obama’s ear on the issue for years. Some now feel that their specific pleas have been answered.

Will Smith Talks Hologram Tupac & What His Kids Think of “Fresh Prince”

From Eurweb.com

Will Smith’s new movie “Men in Black 3” is not only loaded with state-of-the-art special effects that puts the 1997 original  to shame, but its his first-ever film shot in 3D …which he admits gave him pause.

“My first concern with being in 3D was my ears, because I could see these things taking over pretty much the whole of the screen,” Smith told us Thursday during roundtables for the film in Beverly Hills. “When I first saw it and it was cool, I was like alright, we didn’t have me looking like satellite dishes.  And special effects now, you can see anything. Like there are no limitations with special effects.”

Case in point – Tupac.

“That was crazy,” he said of the late rapper’s hologram that performed with Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg at the recent Coachella Music Festival. “That was like, ‘Whoa! Hey, that’s a little too good. Let’s back that technology off a little bit.’”

Asked if he thought virtual Tupac went too far, Smith said, “No, it was great! But it was so great that it was chilling. That’s the world that we live in now, so it’s just a matter of the artist figuring out how to create it in a way that it’s most effective for the audience.”

See what he said Fresh Prince has meant to his career and what his kids think about it at Eurweb.com.
