This must be the year of childhood struggle. Orlando Brown, who played Raven’s best friend “Eddie” on the show “That’s So Raven” was sentenced to 6 months in jail after a DUI arrest from 2011.
In what TMZ is calling one of the longest, drawn out DUI cases ever, Brown was taken into custody on August 23, 2013 after he failed to present proof that he had completed the court-ordered alcohol education classes that were a consequence of the initial arrest.
So far, he’s served two weeks of the 6 month sentence.
Word on the street is that since the L.A. County jails are so overcrowded, Brown is expected to be released after just 27 days, which would be on September 19.
Even if he does only end up serving 27 days in jail, that’s 27 days too long when all you had to do was go to a class and keep the documentation stating you did so.
Just this past Spring, Kevin Hart was arrested and spent a few hours in jail for speeding and failing a sobriety test. And now, according to TMZ, the comedian has received his sentence.
For the next three years, Hart will be on probation. He’ll also have to take alcohol education classes for the next three months and pay a $390 fine.
Hart struck a deal with the Los Angeles police and pled no contest to one count of driving with a blood alcohol level of .08 or higher. In exchange for his plea one of his two counts was dropped and he won’t have to serve any jail time.
Hopefully, this is will be the last time Kevin finds himself in this type of messy situation.
Kevin always admitted his role in the arrest and spoke to TMZ shortly after he was released. See what he had to say about the incident below.
The Curious Case Of DMX’s Most Recent Arrest In South Carolina: Was He Or Was He Not Under The Influence?
I mean, to be honest, the only – and most important – reason we need to know if DMX was under the influence is because he could have been a danger to other drivers on the road. But other than that, it’s a sad day when you can almost always say, “I’m sure there was a valid reason who it this time too.”
Early Friday morning, around 3am, DMX (aka Earl Simmons) was arrested after his car was spotted by the South Carolina Highway Patrol moving quite erratically.
According to CNN, he was given a field sobriety test and failed which is why he was then arrested for driving under the influence, driving without a license and driving without a seatbelt.
As luck and maybe a good lawyer would have it, X was released within an hour.
Here’s the thing: his publicist Domenick Nati says he was given a breathalyzer and passed it which is why he was ultimately released and sent home. Yes, DMX now resides in South Carolina.
But then there’s the above video obtained by TMZ. Maybe he just couldn’t help how sleepy he was but I’m thinking you might want to stay awake to see what the cops are doing. Then there’s the notion that too many drinks will put you to sleep fairly quickly.
Sadly, we don’t expect anything else from him these days.
A new poll found that voters have more tolerance for politicians who have cheated on their partners than those who seek out prostitutes. Unlike the grudge they hold against elected officials who decide to use escort services, voters are willing to forgive a congressional representative who had an extramarital affair, Business Insider reports.
Teaming up with SurveyMonkey, Business Insider asked respondents if they would continue to support an effective and competent congressional leader if he or she engaged in a sexual relationship outside of the marriage. Nearly 40 percent are willing to forgive the faux pas, while about 30 percent would not.
Participants of the survey were also asked about their support for a congressional representative who “used the services of prostitutes but he/she is effectively performing the duties of his/her office,” adds Business Insider. More than half of the respondents would not dare support the rep’s rendezvous in that case. Fewer than 20 percent of the respondents would consider backing the person in office.
“This was a really significant dip,” says Business Insider. “Elected representatives who paid for sex saw a more significant drop in support than for candidates caught driving drunk.”
Politicians who are caught driving under the influence can breathe a sigh of relief. The support does not waver by much; about 35 percent would continue to support him or her while about 29 percent will continue to support the representative.
Worse than paid sexual encounters and unfaithfulness, voters don’t support a politician caught using an illegal drug. About 60 percent would not support the politician while about 10 percent would.
This poll is a pretty accurate representation of how voters have reacted to a politician’s lapse in judgment. For instance, former governor of South Carolina Mark Sanford re-won his congressional seat in an election even though he lied about being on the Appalachian Trail when he was really visiting his mistress in Argentina.
The survey cannot be more disheartening news former governor Eliot Spitzer who allegedly spent over $80,000 on paid escorts. He may be qualified as a candidate for New York City’s Comptroller position, but polls show that this would not be sufficient to overshadow his debauched past.
The most unethical deed that a politician can do that would drastically shatter his or her support is embezzlement and animal abuse, the poll concluded.
Would you continue your support for a philandering politician?
I guess all the jokes in the world couldn’t stop this from happening.
TMZ is reporting that comedian Kevin Hart was arrested for DUI early this morning after almost having a huge accident.
Police say that around 4:30am/PT, Hart was driving on the 101 freeway in California at about 90 miles per hour. His erratic driving almost caused him to collide with a gas tanker but he was able to stop his Mercedes in time.
The California Highway Patrol pulled him over and while talking to him, he showed signs of intoxication and was unable to perform field sobriety tests.
Hart was arrested and booked in a local jail on a misdemeanor DUI charge. According to TMZ, he’s been there since about 6am/PT and is being held on $5,000 bond.
Update: Kevin has been released and sent out the following tweets:
Well, this is unfortunate. I mean, we all have a choice to not drink and drive (we can call cabs if necessary) but a celebrity – especially one of Kevin Hart’s magnitude – can just have a driver take them everywhere. There really are ways for them to avoid such silly arrests.
Hopefully, near or far from his home, Kevin won’t find himself in this situation again.
Okay, Short Dog must have really been “on one” to run from the cops.
Some nosy person had the good sense to get it all on tape and send it in to TMZ. In the clip, Too Short is seen speaking to police officers early Wednesday morning. He was pulled over for suspicion of driving under the influence and was asked to step out of the car. The police gave him a field sobriety test and according to TMZ, before he ran, they told him they were going to have to take him in on a DUI charge.
That didn’t sit too well with Short because after pretending to have a civil conversation, Short took off running!
But here’s the thing: he got nowhere real fast. The rapper tripped on the sidewalk and the cops were on him like white on rice. So embarrassing.
Bless his heart. Even if he hadn’t tripped, it didn’t look like he was going to get too far in his little spring.
To add insult to injury, the police also found drugs in his car and added a drug possession charge to the list. I wonder if they’ll hit him with “attempting to flee an officer” charge as well.
Some of these rappers, no matter their age, just don’t learn. At some point, you’ve got to know you’re too old for the bull.
By the way, Too Short did tweet about it:
Take a look at the video…and laugh. Nothing else we can do (by the way, the TMZ link actually has a better version than the video below they posted on YouTube)!
After releasing new music, touring with New Edition, and getting married again to manager Alicia Etheridge, for a while there, we were starting to think that Bobby Brown had completely turned his life and circumstances around. But after earning his third DUI in October, it seems that we were wrong. The man known as much for his musical talents as for his legal problems and substance and alcohol abuse in the past is back in trouble with the law, and has been sentenced to 55 days in prison for another arrest for driving under the influence.
According to TMZ, Brown was pulled over in October in Los Angeles after being caught driving erratically and doing so on a suspended license. Said license was suspended because of a prior DUI conviction in 2012, and according to TMZ, he was convicted for another DUI before that in ’96. The singer was also caught without a court ordered breathalyzer in his vehicle that he was to have after those previous convictions. Brown tried to plead no contest to his charges after initially pleading not guilty, but on top of his 55 days, he was given four years worth of probation and ordered to participate in a much needed 18-month alcohol program. Brown is scheduled to turn himself in by March 20 and has also been ordered to go to multiple Alcoholics Anonymous classes each week until he’s officially locked down.
It’s definitely sad that Brown is still finding himself in and out of legal trouble for these types of things, but we all know that maintaining sobriety after many years of doing the complete opposite is no easy task. Here’s to hoping he’ll finally turn things around for himself and his family.
Well, this a bit disheartening but nobody is perfect.
Tracy Mourning, wife of former Miami Heat player Alonzo Mourning, was arrested on Friday morning driving under the influence in Miami.
According to The Huffington Post, Mourning was clocked going 28 miles over the speed limit in Coconut Grove while driving her Porsche.
When a police officer finally stopped her a few blocks down, she’d apparently been swerving and she ran a stop sign.
At that point, the officer says Mourning then put on her charms and asked in a nice voice, “What did I do officer,” followed by a wink and then saying, “Was going fast, wasn’t I?” Okay so even at almost 4am and knowing she was wrong, Tracy tried to use the “bat your eyes” trick to get out of any trouble.
But the officer wasn’t buying it. He said her eyes were bloodshot, she was slurring her speech and reeked of alcohol. After failing a roadside sobriety test and refusing to take a blood alcohol test, she was then arrested.
No word yet on what time she was released and when she’ll have to appear in court. Her hair still manages too look good, even in the booking photo.
The Mournings have become pillars of the community in Miami where they spend countless hours giving back. Alonzo has been known for years to throw one of the best fundraising events in town with his “Zo’s Summer Groove.” Along with that huge money maker, the couple often scouts for other ways they can get back.
Hopefully, Tracy can get this taken care of and be extremely careful when it comes to drinking and driving (how about just don’t do it).
Honestly, how many of you still get behind the wheel even though you know you’ve probably had one too many drinks? Do you still get in the car with someone who you know has had too much to drink and let them drive?
Just last month Bobby Brown was bragging about being 22 days sober while simultaneously denying that he checked out of rehab early. Now with news that the New Edition singer has been arrested for yet another DUI, that point seems null and void. According to TMZ:
Law enforcement sources tell us, Brown was pulled over around 1AM when police observed the singer driving erratically on an L.A. street.
According to law enforcement sources, officers approached Brown’s vehicle and detected a strong odor of alcohol — at which point they asked Brown to get out of his car.
We’re told Brown performed a field sobriety test, but didn’t do very well — so he was arrested on suspicion of DUI. He’s currently being booked.
Though it’s much easier to get a DUI than some would think (just hit up a happy hour for one drink, drive home, and see what happens if you get pulled over) but the trouble here is this isn’t Bobby’s first time being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence — this year. Almost 7 months ago to the date, Bobby was arrested for a DUI in Reseda, CA after blowing between a 0.08 and 0.12 when pulled over.
A judge may give you a harsh slap on the wrist the first time you mess up but two DUIs in one year, plus a history of drug and alcohol abuse and rehab? New Edition might have to rework their material again because I don’t see Bobby being available for tour anytime soon. He needs to check into rehab for one of their lengthier stays.
