Well, At Least They Tried: Notorious Celebrity Comeback Fails

There’s nothing better than when a favored star who’s fallen on bad luck returns to the spotlight energized and renewed. Think Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, and even Michael Vick. But the sad reality is that comebacks are harder than we think – and certainly not wholly dependent on talent. Just ask these 15 celebs who failed (miserably) in their attempts. They know the deal.

Jodeci

We lost all of the R&B magic that was Jodeci in 1998 when the group went on hiatus – and it looks like we’ll never get it back. Just two months ago, the group attempted a comeback in London and not 30 seconds in, Mr. Dalvin had jumped off the stage, busted his arse and needed security’s help just to get back on. Then when he did get back on he, K-Ci and Jo-Jo (Devante was a no-show) sang out of tune, stumbled around the stage drunk and got straight up boo-ed. They then begged the audience to let them continue, before another group had to take over and finish their set. How horribly embarrassing.

Just Gimme The Light: 9 Popular Boy Band Or Girl Group Members We Thought Were Going To Be The Big Solo Stars

I can’t imagine being in anybody’s group. Too many egos, too much money to be spread out, too much time spent with too many people. But the people on this list all have been in some of our favorite groups over the years, and they played their part. Smiling and waving and then eventually finding themselves going from being in the group to being out (sometimes after messy quarrels). In the end, we thought all these people should have or would have been the ones shining the most from their respective groups after parting from their band mates because of their talents, but eh…not so much. Most have still had enough success to be happy about, while others are still trying to be taken seriously as they go it alone.

Some artists suffer from not having the “It” factor that will take them to the next level so if they’re part of a group, they stay there because they know its where their bread is buttered. But the artists on today’s list stayed in their groups to get their feet wet in the music industry because when they went solo, they blew up even more! Check it!

What’s Happened To R&B Music? The Real Men of R&B We Love

Let’s face it, gone are the days when R&B music would top the Billboard 100 without sounding like a mix of techno or house music.  Sure, you have artists like Usher and Chris Brown throwing out a few dance-worthy tracks here and there, but that’s nothing compared to the overload of pop music on the radio everyday (some of it Brown and Usher contribute to). Don’t take this the wrong way, the whole dance-meets-pop music thing can be fun sometimes, but don’t you ever miss hearing that those classic R&B vocals and tracks from back in the day? The “Come and Talk to Me,” “Candy Rain,” “Groove Me” type of joints we used to act a fool to? And while these crooners did talk about sex from time to time, that’s not ALL they talked about every time you listened to them (C’mon Trey, it’s getting old). Sadly, it appears that none of today’s most popular artists are capable of providing the type of classic music we reminisce over, and would rather spend their time dancing in skinny jeans talking about how they’ll “beat it up.” *Sighs* Let’s have a look at some of our favorite male R&B artists that no one has been able to match in recent times. This is who we like to call the real men of R&B Music.

Though times have certainly changed and we rarely see groups anymore, the groups of yesteryear live on and we sing their songs like they just came out yesterday. When a group broke up, they gave a simple excuse similar to, “Oh, we just wanted to do something different.”  Maybe…or maybe not. Check out the real reason some of our favorite groups broke up…

Boy Bands that Broke Our Hearts

Whether they were the object of our celebrity crushes, the crooners of our first slow dance, or the composers of the song we worked our slow wind and grind to boy bands have contributed majorly to our musical libraries and our lives. And just when we started to love them unconditionally, attitudes start clashing, drugs come into the picture, the industry does them dirty and they do something unthinkable like disband. Or come back with only two members. Or fall into R&B obscurity, leaving us confused, betrayed and dejected. It’s a story we know too well.

Fab or Fail: 2010 BET Awards

The BET Awards is usually one big game of charades. Full of impromptu performances, mic flaws and throwback singers (yes, El Debarge was in the house!) we always sit at the edge of couches in anticipation of the next surprise. This year was no different with the award show and fashion choices.

Maybe it has to do with the invitations Viacom sends out, but MTV and BET award shows always have a diverse range of fashion. Some are dolled up like they’re going to a formal occasion, while others dress like they’re about to hit the gym. It doesn’t bother us though… just another reason to shamelessly talk about people’s odd sense of style.

Here we go…
