“You Have To Constantly Do Stuff To Keep People’s Attention:” Jennifer Hudson Talks Maintaining Fame
Nine years ago, America fell in love with the icon Jennifer Hudson was destined to be, despite sending her home from “American Idol” in 2004. Almost 10 years later, Hudson has proven her talent to be expendable with a Grammy, Golden Globe, and Oscar under her belt as weland album sales in the millions. J. Hud spirit is never defeated nor does it take no for an answer. Her humbleness is quite honest with no shame. In an interview with Net-A-Porter, Jennifer Hudson reminisced on winning an Academy Award, she stated:
“I didn’t know what the Oscars was…where we come from, we don’t know anything about that world. If you see it on TV, it’s like, “Oh, people in fancy suits and ties.”
Besides being star-struck with her own success, Hudson, much like Kerry Washington, notes she gained her “it” factor through weight loss. Hudson often compares weight-loss and fame to one another, saying:
“It’s one thing to lose it, but it’s another to keep it off. Well, it’s one thing to make it, but it’s another thing to stay. [That is] why you have to constantly do stuff to keep people’s attention. It’s a hustle, it really is.”
J Hud’s flawless work ethic allowed her to be crowned by Whitney Houston before she passed. The international diva told Hudson during their first meeting: “I turn my torch over to you; you are The One.” After receiving Houston’s blessings, Jennifer Hudson said she only plans to refine her work ethic. With he straight-forward attitude, she notes everything she has, she worked for. She plans to teach her son as he grows that anything is possible- you just have to do a little bit of everything to master your crafts.
