Would You Pay To See It? Watch The Trailer For Tyler Perry’s “Peeples” With Kerry Washington And David Alan Grier

Last week we told you about Kerry Washington’s new role in the upcoming movie, Tyler Perry Presents Peeples, a film where she plays Grace Peeples, a woman in a committed relationship who is afraid to introduce her man (the hilarious Craig Robinson from Hot Tub Time Machine and The Office series) to her family (led by the crazy David Alan Grier and wonderful S Epatha Merkerson). Despite the title, which was originally supposed to be We The Peeples according to Shadow and Act, the film was not written or directed by Tyler Perry, and in fact, he’s just a producer on the project. The person behind the camera and the story is actually Tina Gordon Chism, and so far, the trailer looks pretty funny, and we’re digging the star power in this movie. Here’s the full synopsis:
Wade Walker is eager to propose to his girlfriend, Grace Peeples. But after a year of living together, the beautiful, successful Grace is still cagey about introducing average guy Wade to her ambitious, upper crust family. So when Grace leaves for an annual reunion at her parents’ swanky Sag Harbor compound, Wade decides to crash the gathering, charm his soon-to-be in-laws and slip a ring on Grace’s finger. However Wade’s plans go hilariously awry when he meets the high-powered, seemingly picture-perfect family who’ll do whatever it takes to keep up appearances. Wade soon finds himself caught in a web of white lies and comic dysfunction, and realizes that his only hope of ever marrying Grace means a take-no-prisoners face-off with Judge Peeples, Grace’s disapproving dad who won’t accept anything less than the very best for his favorite daughter.
Sounds like the black version of Meet The Parents, but Peeples definitely has its own flavor (including a booty-popping moment from Robinson, who is a complete fool). Other big stars in the movie include the incomparable Diahann Carroll and the legendary Melvin Van Peebles. The movie will be released on May 10, and as with other black romantic comedies, we’ll have to wait and see if it will make waves at the box office, or if it will sink to the bottom of the pack. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think!
