Big-Hearted Baller Derrick Rose To Pay Part Of Funeral For 6-Month-Old Killed In Chicago
Chicago Bulls MVP Derrick Rose allegedly offered to pay a portion of 6-month-old Jonylah Watkins’ funeral expenses. Jonylah was killed while getting her diaper changed by her father after bullets ripped through their car when they were parked.
According to the SunTimes, Rose is working with Leak and Sons Funeral Home.
“On Monday afternoon, Watkins was standing on the curb in the 6500 block of South Maryland, changing his daughter’s diaper on the front passenger seat of a minivan, when a gunman emerged unnoticed from a gangway behind him and opened fire. He and Jonylah were injured. She survived emergency surgery but died Tuesday morning.” -ChicagoSunTimes

Evening Eye Candy: Chicago Bulls Baller Derrick Rose

In the early to mid 2000s, Derrick Rose was a wunderkind basketball star getting compared to all the great basketball players who had ever picked up a ball in or been in the city of Chicago. And as he got older he grew into a better player year after year, being picked as the third best high school point guard of all time, also getting picked as “Mr. Basketball” in Illinois, getting recruited to make big moves at Memphis, and after helping to lead the Tigers to the NCAA Championship (which was later wiped from the books after eligibility issues), he was picked as the number one draft pick in 2008 by the Chicago Bulls. He has been a treasure ever since, even getting the Bulls to the Eastern Conference Finals in the 2010-11 season. And in all these years that he’s put up great numbers, received numerous accolades (including Rookie of The Year and the NBA MVP) and acquired big moneymaking endorsements, he’s looked good the entire time. Maybe that’s why we miss him so much while he nurses an ACL injury this season. If there weren’t enough reasons to love you some of this guy, especially because he’s so humble and fine, then this slideshow will give you a few more.
Awwwww! Proud Papa Derrick Rose Shows Off His Little Man
Derrick Rose may possibly be the most loveable man in the NBA right now. Aside from having amazing skills on the court, the Chicago Bulls star already melted plenty of hearts when he broke down over the gang violence in his hometown while debuting his new Adidas sneaker two months ago. Now the baller is showing off his little baby boy, PJ, like a proud papa on Twitter.
Just last month, Derrick and his girlfriend Mieka Riese welcomed their son and as you can see from PJ’s first photo shoot, he’s an absolute cutie! This is turning out to be a great year for D. Rose. Congrats to the couple!
A Baller With A Heart: Derrick Rose Breaks Down Over Gang Violence In Chicago
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that gang violence in Chicago is completely off the charts right now. Crime has always been an issue in the large metropolitan area but with the rise of gangbanging teen rappers like 17-year-old Chief Keef and Lil Mouse, who is only 13 years old, the city has seen stats as high as 38 shootings and 3 homicides in one weekend.
Though NBA player Derrick Rose may have escaped the downtrodden streets of the Chi to earn a place on the Chicago Bulls squad, the Englewood native is not immune to the effects the environment has had on him and is still having on teens in the city. The 23-year-old was a part of a press conference for the launch of his new “D rose 3” sneaker with Adidas on Friday, but the reality of how far he’s come in spite of the death of violence surround him was overwhelming for the baller who broke down during questioning saying:
“It’s truly a blessing, man. With all of this stuff that’s going on in this city, a kid from Englewood got something positive going on. That makes me feel so good, man. This shoe is great, all this is great. But this, I can’t explain this…I can’t. I went through so much. To have like true fans, that means a lot to me. And I know it means a lot to my family, because we ain’t supposed to be here …at all. But God made a way. This is truly unreal.”
Derrick Rose already garners much respect from his fans and other athletes for his humility and his skills on the court, but this just raises the bar of admiration to a whole new level. Shout out to him for being an amazing role model and inspiration.

The Attack On Derrick Rose’s “Basketball Wife”: Should She Step Her Game Up?
If you follow sports or just like to follow up on cute athletes, you know by now that Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose was injured last week and is out for the remainder of the playoffs. Well earlier this week he was spotted in a sky box watching his teammates and spotted in the row in front of him was his rumored girlfriend (and unconfirmed expectant mother of his child), Mieka. As I scoured the comments of various sites that posted the pictures (she’s in the row in front of him on his right side), there was one consistent question: “Why does she look so rough?” The questions that followed wondered why she wasn’t dressed to the “9s” and why she couldn’t “really” get her hair done. Hmm. I looked at the pictures again and noticed that she likely wasn’t wearing any makeup and yes, she had on rain boots but other than that, she looked like she was genuinely there to show support for the game.
The follow-up comment to that question was almost always, “If you’re going to be an athlete’s girl, you need to step your game up.” So although Mieka’s look might be fine for a woman dating an “average Joe” and may have been okay when they first met, it is unacceptable for her to have such a casual appearance (in public) when she is dating a man who is not only rich but is also a superstar. Essentially, being yourself – and we don’t know this is how she looks everyday as this is only one set of pictures – is not as clear cut when your status has been elevated because of your relationship.

What’s your take? If you find yourself dating a celebrity, are you obligated to step up your appearance? If you do, are you wrong for changing? If you don’t, are you asking for him to move on to a woman who will “step it up?”
Starting 5: NBA Playoff Eye Candy
You probably don’t care like that, but it’s playoff time! That time of year where Facebook statuses are devoted to talking trash, bandwagons are hopped on, TNT and ABC are your man’s favorite letters in the alphabet, and a missed lay up can elicit a reaction that sounds like pure agony. It’s beautiful! But if you’re not interested in basketball stats, botched plays and Charles Barkley commentary, you’re probably not watching, nor caring. But something that might make you turn away from the estrogen of ‘Braxton Family Values” and into the testosterone of NBA playoff ball is the tall, dark and handsome men that make every game worth watching. Straying from the veteran fine-ness (aka, you already know they’re Hot) of folks like Dwayne Wade and cutie Ray Allen, here are five up-and-coming brothas (still in the playoffs) who you need to be cheering for until the off-season.
