People Who Can’t “Sang” But Still Make Good Music

Have you noticed that black folk are quick to tell you who can and cannot sing? Many of us, who’ve never taken a vocal lesson, will swiftly let you know when someone can’t blow. We are an unauthorized authority on the subject. And any vocal connoisseur will tell you that there are people who are completely tone deaf, people who can hold a note, people who can sing and then there are people who can sang. For those who don’t know the word “sang” used in this context is not poor grammar; instead it’s a word used to emphasize the width and breadth of a person’s vocal ability. We all know who the sangers are, they’re the people with soul. The people who can take you from the Slore house to the church house and back again. You know them: Aretha Franklin, Patti Labelle & Luther Vandross of the old school and Jennifer Hudson and Fantasia of the new. (That’s just to name a few.) But just because a person can’t sang like some of the greats, doesn’t mean they don’t have talent and can’t make good music. Don’t believe me? Find out who I’m talking about.

Artists Who’ve Had A Few Ups And (Quite A Few) Downs In Their Careers Who Still Deserve To Win In The Long Run

It’s hard to stay relevant in the music industry. Every day there is a new face ready to drop their clothing and sing with auto-tune that can easily catch the attention of the masses and take it away from true talent. Nobody knows that more than these artists, who’ve had major highs in the industry, and quite a few lows as well. They’ve managed to bounce back and forth over the years, some finally getting positive shine, but their talents are so worthy, we just want to see them win in the long run. How about you?

Currently, Brandy is doing big things. She’s got a regular casting role as Chardonnay on The Game, recently put out a critically acclaimed album, Two Eleven, and she got engaged to music exec Ryan Press during the holidays late last year. But as we all know (and you can watch the Behind The Music) episode for further confirmation, things haven’t always been a winning situation for the singer. There was the fatal car accident, the fake marriage scandal, the reality show that didn’t paint her or her brother in the best light, and a fickle listening audience who stopped checking for her. Now that she’s regained a good amount of relevance, we’d love for her to keep it. B Rocka’s voice has always been one of our favorites!

Kanye and Alexis

Before there was Kanye West and Kim Kardashian or even Kanye and Amber Rose, there was Kanye and Alexis. The Chicago rapper/producer met Alexis Phifer back in 2002 and the cute couple dated on and off for four years before West finally popped the question. After an 18-month whirlwind engagement the two went their separate ways citing his hectic touring schedule as the cause. West dated then-unknown model Amber Rose before settling down with the reality show superstar who is now pregnant with their first child.

Pump Ya Brakes: The Love Lesson We Can All Learn From Ciara

"Ciara and Future PF"

Oh love. There’s nothing else like it, right? It’s magical, beautiful, divine. Love, in any form, is probably one of the best things we can hope for in this life. But if you’ve been around the block a time or two, you know that there’s flip side to this love business. It’s not always a bed of roses. It can enrage you, betray you, deplete you, hurt you. That’s why when you first fall in love it’s important to take your time and guard your heart.

Today, this lesson will be illustrated by singer/dancer Ciara.

It was a couple of weeks ago when we posted the video of Ciara’s awkward interview on 106 & Park. It was mostly awkward because we watched her sit and chat with ex boyfriend Bow Wow, right in front of her current boyfriend, rapper Future. Bow Wow did the best he could, though there were times where he was clearly overcompensating. During the interview, Bow Wow went through pictures from Ciara’s Instagram asking her to describe what was going on in each shot. By the time he got to the second pic, the audience and even Bow Wow started doing that obnoxious “Wooooo” noise folks do when there’s a romantic moment being shared on television. The picture was of Ciara and Future sitting next to each other on what she called a “PJ.” (That’s a private jet for you poor folks.) After the audience settled down, Ciara started describing the picture saying “That’s me and my King.”

Huh?

When you refer to a man, a mere mortal, as your king you automatically lower yourself. Even if Future is walking around referring to Ciara as his Queen, it’s just not quite the same. Everybody knows traditionally the two roles aren’t equivalent. We were discussing the notion of calling a man your king in the office and we unanimously agreed that she took things a little too far. (It would seem that the two have been dating each other for a year max.) The more I thought about this “king” thing, the more I wondered if I could or would use it in the context of a more stable, more committed relationship like a marriage.

I’m not married so I called my mom and asked her if she’d ever call my father, her husband her king. She thought about it for a second before saying no. She said there’s something about the word “king” that is so vivid that you immediately start imagining the man wearing a crown, or a halo and she just didn’t feel comfortable giving that title to a man, not even one she’s been married to for nearly 30 years. She said that when you call someone your king it’s almost sacrilegious, like you’re relying on this man to be your everything. And no man can be everything to anyone. I told my mom about Ciara and she agreed it was too much and homegirl is just young.

I neglected to tell my mom about Ciara’s tattoo featuring Future’s initial.

When Ciara appeared on The Wendy Williams show, Wendy spotted the tattoo and asked Ciara straight out about her tattoo and whether it was the smartest decision. Ciara said she got the tattoo as a way to speak things into fruition.

And I feel so good about where I am. I’m very confident and comfortable with the way he loves me. I say that to say I’m only going to put in the universe positive things. I’m going to put in the universe that it’s only going to get better and better and better.

Keep Your Boo Behind-the-Scenes: 11 Celebs Who’ve Mixed Their Mates With Their Music

Ever since I heard the slowed beat of Ghost Town DJ’s “My Boo” drop, I instantly had Ciara’s latest single “Body Party” on repeat. I knew the video would feature her slithering and sliding in moves that would keep EMTs busy for weeks as women across the country blew out their backs and pulled hamstrings trying to imitate the moves for their men.

I wasn’t disappointed when Ciara scissored her legs in the air for boyfriend Future as they play out how they first met for the video, but it was like deja-vu as I saw her relationship slowly steal the spotlight from her first two singles. Is it me, or does something happen to a recording artist when they fall in love and choose to flaunt it in their work? After watching Ciara’s steamy video for “Body Party,” I couldn’t help but wonder if she’s risking the buzz she’s worked so hard to build back by allowing boyfriend, Future, to make so many appearance.

Mixing business and pleasure is a risky move.  There’s something about when celebs turn the camera on to their personal lives that causes their careers and their relationships to fall apart.  Here are a few celebs who might want to think about leaving their boo behind-the-scenes in the future.

Source: krwetatnt.net

1. J.Lo

J.Lo had a pretty good buzz going as a singer even if her “hits” were only heard in the clubs, but as soon as Ben Affleck took J.Lo from the block to the yacht in her Jenny From the Block vid, Jenny’s singing career went man down for a minute and she was left man-less and a little embarrassed.  Not to mention Ben credited the cameo with almost ruining his career. And who can forget how clearly sprung she was on the track “Dear Ben,” in which she sings,” I love you, you’re perfect.” Well apparently the feelings weren’t mutual; Ben quickly married another Jennifer after their break up and made like 11 kids with her.  Sting. Word of advice for the former fly girl: You can sing all the love songs you want about your boo, just don’t name them after him and throw said boo in all your videos.

Did You Need A Tat For That? Ciara Says Her And Future’s Matching Tats Are Their Way Of Putting Positive Things In The Universe

Wendy Williams

We know we’re not the only ones who were wondering why Ciara and Future upped and got matching tattoos on their fingers after only having been dating for a short while. Unfortunately, we haven’t had an opportunity to ask such a pertinent question, but thankfully Wendy Williams did and, as usual, she did not mince words.

Today, Ciara appeared on her talk show discussing everything from body parties to her Rihanna feud, but the most interesting moment of their chat was Ciara’s explanation for her and her boo, Future’s, matching tats. Here’s how the discussion went when Wendy drew attention to the body art.

Wendy: Are you pregnant?

Ciara: No (laughs)

Wendy: Clearly you’re in love?

Ciara: I’m very happy

Wendy: So you guys eventually are going to getting married?

Ciara: I don’t know.

Wendy: What happens if you don’t get married to this guy? How are you going to explain that to the next man?

This is the place I’m in. I’ve always been so reserved and to myself or more private and kind of half way about something when I speak about a relationship. In this day in my life I’m so comfortable in my skin. And I feel so good about where I am. I’m very confident and comfortable with the way he loves me. I say that to say I’m only going to put in the universe positive things. I’m going to put in the universe that it’s only going to get better and better and better.

And again I ask: you needed a tattoo to do that?

I get putting positive things out in the universe, I just prefer they come into fruition before I permanently place those ideas on my body. But hey, get it how you live. Here’s to Ci Ci never having to explain these tats to anyone else!

What do you think about the reason behind their tattoos?

Ciara Reportedly Threw A Fit That May Cost Future Over $45,000 And A Lawsuit

A Las Vegas nighclub owner by the name of KiKi and her in-house promoter Cliff have a bone to pick with Atlanta rapper Future and it appears that his girl Ciara has a lot to do with it. Both Cliff and KiKi called up Power 105.1′s The Breakfast Club to put the lovebirds on blast. According to Cliff, Future’s management was paid for him to make an appearance at the LV nightclub. Future reportedly flew into Las Vegas and even stayed at the hotel that the promoter booked for him, but never performed or even showed up to the club.

“I paid him 75% upfront. I gave him $36,625 up front,” Cliff said.

“When he landed, he wanted two SUVs. I didn’t get the plane landing time until 9:45pm the night before and by then the SUVs were all sold out with the limousine company that I use. Since they didn’t have any SUVs they gave me the superstretch truck. Well, the tour manager called and said Ciara didn’t want to get in the car with the special guest they had with them. So I sent another stretch limousine, which was a Lincoln. When they saw the limousine Future wouldn’t get in the car. So they sent off the Lincoln and got in the super stretch,” he continued.

Cliff went on to say that once Future and Ciara arrived at the hotel, they apparently made other plans because they walked off and did their own thing as if he wasn’t scheduled to appear at the club in a couple of hours.

“Once they got to the hotel I called another company that sent four SUVs to transport them to the club. He came down to the lobby, him and Ciara walked off into the Steakhouse and they disappeared.”

“I gave you the top limousines. I did everything I could. I had to contract this with the radio station,” he told the Breakfast Club hosts.

“It wasn’t an issue about money. All money was in place.”

Charlemagne, attempting to gain some sort of clarity asked, “So Future didn’t show up to perform or make his appearance because him and Ciara got into an argument over a car?

“Yeah, they didn’t want to ride in that type of SUV,” Cliff responded.

“I know they’re in love and engaged and stuff, but man up and get to work, Future,” KiKi, the club owner added.

“You had a commitment to us. We’re a club. There were so many people. We had to call out 30 metro officers to secure our building. Our character and reputation is on the line. We did everything we were supposed to do and for you not to even apologize to us?” she continued.

When asked what their next course of action will be, Cliff responded:

“Of course I’m going to the attorneys.”

“He a little kid. Two years ago he ain’t have a dime… They kept telling me, ‘You know how it is when they rolling with they girls.’ I don’t give a damn about his girl. I don’t care about Ciara. I didn’t book Ciara. I don’t have nothing to do with that.”

Tsk, tsk, tsk. Regardless of what happened, if everything went down the way the club’s promoters say it did, it all comes down to Future not handling his business. But who knew CiCi was such a diva?

Ciara Explains Why She Said ‘He Reads’ In Body Party Video And We Still Don’t Get It

If you watched Ciara’s “Body Party” video and asked yourself at the end of the singer’s conversation with Future, “he reads” –what does that mean? You weren’t the only one. It seems so many people were confused by her exclamation, that in a recent interview with the songstress, Muu Muse had to ask the question:

I have to ask though: When you say “He reads,” what does that mean exactly?
Ciara: (Laughs) I mean like, he reads! Like, that works. Like, that’s it. In that case, when I said “he reads”, it was just like…he reads! Like, he’s cute, he’s it, and he’s everything. It’s like that first reaction of when you meet somebody and he really like…he reads. Like…yes.

Uh huh. Okay, alright. So I’m gonna have to use that then!
Ciara: He reads! Yes, he makes you feel something, while he also looks cute, and all of that good stuff.

Well, there you have it folks! Not quite the “he reads” we’re used to using when we’re talking about telling somebody off. Guess Ciara’s introducing some new lingo to us. Will you be using “he reads” now?

Check out her use of the term in the video again in case you forgot.

Before And After: Celebs Whose Style Has Drastically Improved, And A Few Who’ve Fallen Off In The Fashion Department

Oh the wonders a great stylist can work in one’s career. But don’t we all know what the lack of one can do for one’s style. Some of our favorite trendsetters didn’t necessarily start off the freshest, while ones who started off age appropriate and chic somehow ended up dressing like they picked their ensembles out in the dark. Check out a few celebrities whose style improved big time over the years, and a few who even with a bunch of money, downgraded, and still can’t seem to get it right.

Solange

WENN.com

It’s actually Solange’s style that has helped her create her own lane and identity outside of her very well-known big sister (that and her drastically different music). But she didn’t get to African-inspired prints, fab fros and chic pantsuits overnight. She had to wear a lot of satin, bountiful weaves and things that I’m sure she would probably cringe at now on the way up. Is that a feather purse above? Girl, no.

But luckily for her, her unique change in style has made her one of the best dressed people out there (it’s true, even Vogue said so) and is just one of many things that has helped her finally garner the respect she deserves.
