For all the mothers out there who had to wait further and further into their pregnancies to find out the sex of their children, you’ll be pleased (or pissed?) to know that a new blood test can determine the sex of your child as early as seven weeks. But some are wondering if the earlier it can be determined, the more people will use it for the wrong reasons–gender preference.
According to TIME, in a report published in the Journal of the American Medical Association on Tuesday, study results were published that show when people took the blood test, which go for $400 and scan the mother’s blood for DNA fragments, results were correct 94.8 percent of the time when predicting between seven to 12 weeks a baby boy would be born, and 98.9 percent of the time for girls. While many are thinking the testing will be used to help families that have a history of gender-related diseases, some are worried, and more so speculating, that people will take the test in order to figure out if the child is of the sex they prefer. If not, some doctors think abortions could take place so that parents can start over and try again for a new child. What do you think?
