From The Sidelines To The Streets: Khalilah Williams-Webb Brings Vintage Style To Brooklyn
Baltimore, Maryland native Khalilah Williams-Webb is known for bringing style to the sidelines. She styles some of sports’ biggest names in the game (and fashion), most notably Carmelo Anthony. But Khalilah is more than that, much more. When she’s not hunting for size 14 shoes and extra-long trousers she works as a stylist for power players like Carol’s Daughter founder Lisa Price, and an image consultant for brands like Samsung and Foot Locker. Most recently she took on the role of shopkeeper at her new boutique, Shirley + Alice, (named for her fashionable grandmothers) in the legendary neighborhood of Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. She’s come a long way from cocktail waitressing and working the floor at Express and Tommy Hilfiger.
We caught up with Khalilah to learn more about what propels her success and the motivation behind her new retail venture.
Madame Noire: Where does your love for fashion come from?
Khalilah Williams-Webb: My mother and my grandmothers. As a young child, they use to bring me along with them as they shopped; shopping and dressing me up as a child! It honestly came so naturally because I grew up around it!
MN: You’re widely known for styling Carmelo Anthony, but you have a lot going on! Describe what your brand entails and what guides you when pursuing new ventures.
KW: My brand entails styling, imaging consulting, and running a my new boutique. But most importantly, maintaining my image as a great mom, wife, and family figure. When pursuing new ventures I love to be challenged.
MN: With so many ventures pulling from your creativity, how do you stay inspired to come up with fresh ideas?
KW: I strongly believe in taking time out to refresh and rebuild! But I also do a lot of research and draw inspiration from old movies, magazines, etc. I also have to give credit to my great team. We collectively come up with creative ideas to be ahead of the game.
MN: What prompted you to make the move into retail?
KW: It has been a dream of mine to open a vintage store since I moved to NYC two years ago. When my husband Richard and I found out we were expecting a baby, I made the decision to slow down with styling, and to put my energy into my love for vintage. I began hosting trunk shows, first in my husband’s gallery, “House of Art”, then in a mansion converted to a school (the ambiance was perfect). I started to realize with the amount of inventory I amassed and the demand, I needed a storefront.
MN: Do you approach styling men differently than dressing women?
KW: My approach to styling is no different. I make to adhere to what the client is looking for, and put my own twist to it.
MN: How is Shirley + Alice different from the other vintage boutiques that populate Brooklyn?
KW: I wanted a boutique that had a cozy and homely feel; as if you are playing dress up at your girlfriends house or your mother’s closet as we all did as a kid. A place where you could feel welcome, have a glass of wine, conversation and do what women want to do most — shop! I want it to be an experience, not just a place to buy a piece of clothing.

It seems that New York Knicks player Carmelo Anthony may have made a huge mistake when he allowed Celtics player Kevin Garnett to push his buttons earlier this year. In case you missed it, during a Knicks vs. Celtics game in January, things got a little heated between Kevin Garnett an Carmelo Anthony. Following the game, Melo reportedly attempted to confront Garnett in the stadium’s parking garage and near a locker room, which resulted in Melo’s one-game suspension. This type of aggression seemed really out of character for the 28-year-old small forward. It was later revealed that trash-talking Garnett said something about Melo’s reality tv star wife LaLa, which pushed him over the edge. Rumors implied that Kevin Garnett told Anthony that “LaLa tastes like Honey Nut Cheerios.” Melo told media outlets that the rumors were false, but refused to share what Garnett had actually said about his wife.
Now that others see LaLa is a sore subject for Melo, they’ve immaturely jumped on the bandwagon. On Wednesday at a playoffs game, Celtics player Jordan Crawford told Carmelo:
“That muthaf**ker fu*ked your wife!” referencing the Kevin Garnett drama.
Thankfully, Melo didn’t overreact to the childish behavior like he’d done previously. Instead, he calmed down and kept it moving. When reporters asked him about the drama following the game, Melo responded:
“I’m not thinking about Jordan Crawford. Not at this point in time. I’ll tell you that . . . I don’t think he deserves for you to be typing [about him].”
LaLa also had a few words for Crawford. Taking to her Instagram and Twitter pages, she reminded the 24-year-old “benchwarmer” of his irrelevance.
Fellow basketball boo Gabrielle Union cosigned.
Real mature, Jordan.
Garnett Doesn’t Know How I Taste! Lala Anthony Finally Speaks On ‘Honey Nut Cheerios’ Drama
Back in January during a Knicks vs. Celtics game, things got a bit heated between Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Garnett after Anthony fouled Garnett. The tension was said to have gotten even worse once the game ended, as Melo, still upset over whatever comments Garnett made to him on the court, attempted to confront his Celtics opponent, which got him suspended. Carmelo’s reaction to Garnett caused many to wonder what Kevin had actually said to him, and somehow it got out that Kevin told Carmelo that his wife Lala “tastes like Honey Nut Cheerios.” As a result of the drama, speculations regarding a possible divorce between Lala and Melo began to circulate. In a recent interview with Ear Candy on Demand, the reality star finally addressed the controversy. Here’s some of what she had to say.
On Kevin Garnett telling Melo she tastes like Honey Nut Cheerios:
“I was the one thrown in the middle of everything, just because… I had to be able to laugh about it because that was a little crazy. Someone says ‘Your wife tastes like Honey Nut Cheerios’ and everyone believing that and running with it. That’s not what was said. Kevin Garnett did not say that about me. He just said some things to my husband that he didn’t like, that he felt like one man doesn’t say to another. They’re perfectly fine now. It happens in the heat of battle. People don’t know what goes on on that court. Garnett’s known for [trash talking]. So it got under my husband’s skin and things happen but it wasn’t about me.”
On finding humor in the controversy:
“To be in the middle of that whole entire thing you had to laugh. If you don’t laugh that stuff will start messing with your head and making you feel upset and down so I laugh about it. I have great friends and family who are sending me pictures on Honey Nut Cheerios boxes, and we’re making jokes about it. I mean, you gotta laugh at stuff… I’m like hey, he could have said a lot worse things and people could’ve made up a lot worse things.”
On divorce rumors:
“We’ve been together for 10 years and I always say if people tell you their marriage is perfect they’re lying. We’ve been together for ten years. We go through ups we go through downs just like everyone else. But we’re doing great and we’re raising an amazing son Kiyan whose about to turn 6 in like a week. He’s so sweet and such a good kid. So definitely we’re working through it and things are good.”
We’re glad to hear that all is well in the Anthony household.

Sneak Peek: ‘Lala’s Full Court Life’ Returns For Season Three
VH1 recently announced that their real-life basketball wife, Lala Vasquez-Anthony will be returning to their reality television lineup beginning Monday, February 18th with season three of her show, Lala’s Full Court Life. “Right now, this family is on fire!” Anthony says regarding the upcoming season of her show. Judging by the trailer, her description couldn’t be more accurate. It seems that this season will highlight Lala’s New York Knicks-playing hubby, Carmelo Anthony as he ventured into London to play in the 2012 Olympics.
Little Kiyan seems fairly busy as well considering the handsome little guy is the face of Jordan Kids, in addition to beginning kindergarten back in September. The trailer also revealed that Lala is preparing to launch her makeup brand, Motives for Lala nationally. Of course, her pals Po and Dice are around, seemingly ready to put in the work necessary to make their dreams come true. Lala’s celeb friends Kelly Rowland, Ludacris, Ciara, Gabrielle Union, Trina, Estelle, Amar’e Stoudemire and Charlemagne will also make appearances this season.
By the looks of the trailer, the only real drama we can expect to see this season is Lala pondering whether or not she wants to be seen at the gay wedding of a friend and experiencing a few attachment issues as Kiyan grows older and becomes more independent. Ironically, Po and Dice standing on their own two feet and pursuing their individual goals and aspirations appears to have a similar effect on her.
“We’e all moving in different directions. I’m concerned and worried about our friendship more than anything … All I ever wanted to do was be there for them while they show the world that they can do things for themselves. And now, it just feels like they have this whole life that I’m not even a part of,” Lala expresses during the season preview.
What I would be interested in seeing is whether or not the whole Melo-Kevin Garnett drama plays out while VH1 cameras are rolling.

How About A Little Off The Top? Lala Says The Makers Of Honey Nut Cheerios Owe Her Some Endorsement Cash
Considering all of the drama that has been surrounding reality television star Lala Vasquez-Anthony and her NBA playing hubby Carmelo Anthony, I was pleasantly surprised to see her joking around and making light of it all in my Twitter timeline yesterday. If you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple of days, things got a bit heated between Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Garnett during the recent Knicks vs Celtics game after Garnett allegedly told Melo that his wife “tastes like Honey Nut Cheerios”. Since then, countless rumors swirled surrounding the current status of Lala and Carmelo’s relationship. Some even suggested that the two were headed for divorce.
While these rumors have yet to be confirmed or denied, one thing we know for sure that the NBA wasn’t too happy with the way that Melo responded to K.G.’s antagonistic behavior. According to ESPN, the 28-year-old small forward has been suspended without pay for one game as a direct result of him confronting K.G. after the game near the team’s locker room.
“There are no circumstances in which it is acceptable for a player to confront an opponent after a game,” NBA executive vice president basketball operations Stu Jackson said in a statement. “Carmelo Anthony attempted to engage with Kevin Garnett multiple times after Monday’s game and therefore a suspension was warranted.”
While there seems to be some semi-serious consequences to Melo’s actions, Lala is taking it all in stride, refusing to allow the current circumstances to bring her down.
“Not for nothing, but we ALL deserve a check or some free cereal 4all the publicity we’ve given Honey Nut Cheerios! LOL
#cantbelieveeverything,” the reality star tweeted last night right after she expressed her excitement about co-hosting the Hip Hop Inaugural Ball with Terrence J.
Most people didn’t believe Kevin really said that she tasted like Cheerios, but it was pretty funny. While the rumors that are currently circulating about her and Melo seem pretty damaging, we’re glad to see that she isn’t allowing any of it to get her down.

Please Say It Ain’t So: Could Lala and Carmelo Be Headed For Splitsville?
While her show may not be the most entertaining, I think it’s safe to say that Lala and Carmelo Anthony are one of reality television’s favorite couples, but recent rumors imply that they are the latest victims of the reality television curse. Since Monday night’s Knicks vs Celtics game where Carmelo fouled Kevin Garnett and offered him a few choice words after K.G. allegedly told him that Lala “tastes like Honey Nut Cheerios”, all sorts of rumors regarding turbulence between Lala and Melo have surfaced. There is no real evidence to prove whether not these speculations are valid, only conflicting stories from anonymous sources.
According to Page Six, Lala and Carmelo are living separately right now; however sources provide varying reasons as to why. One source suggests that it is because she is busy filming her show, Lala’s Full Court Life.
“It is true they haven’t seen much of each other in the past few months,” says a friend of the couple. “She’s been away a lot filming her show, ‘La La’s Full Court Life,’ in London, New York and LA. They are not separated and are still together. She and Melo have a house in LA — so she’s always there when she’s doing auditions.”
Meanwhile, another source suggests there’s more to the story than that.
“They have been living separately for several months now. She’s been living in LA while Carmelo has been in New York.La La used to go out to the games and wanted to be seen . . . now she’s always off doing her own thing.”
The Daily News, which referred to Lala as Carmelo’s “estranged wife” in a recent article, also suggested that the couple’s marriage is going through some sort of rough patch.
When asked by a Twitter-user about her feelings on Garnett’s comments to her husband, Lala chose not to address the drama and instead tweeted, “Living life. Counting blessings, not burdens.”
The most intriguing part is that it seems like these rumors came completely out of nowhere. Of course, marital problems don’t always equate to divorce. They could just be experiencing issues that they’re working through right now. Whatever it is, we hope they work it out.
What do you make of all of this? Do you think Lala and Carmelo are headed for divorce or is this just some ploy to get us all to tune into the upcoming season of Lala’s Full Court Life?

Is THAT Why They Were Fighting?! Kevin Garnett Allegedly Told Melo LaLa Tastes Like Honey Nut Cheerios

If you watched the Celtics vs Knicks game last night, you might have seen things get a little heated between Celtic forward, Kevin Garnett and New York Knick Carmelo Anthony after Anthony fouled Garnett.
But it wasn’t the foul that led to the feud. It was Kevin Garnett’s trash-talking, which he is notoriously known for. If you missed last night’s game, you can see that as he takes his seat on the bench after his fifth foul, Melo says a few choice words to Garnett.
Take a look.
Did you catch that? If not, you’ll have to watch again because we can’t type out the fact that Melo spat, “Fawk you [vajayjay]” in K.G.’s direction. Both men got technicals.
Alright, so no big deal. A lot of stuff gets said in the heat of game time. But last night, it didn’t end there. After the Knicks lost (96 to 102), the two teams had showered and Melo was dressed, he went to meet Garnett outside, next to Boston’s bus. Fortunately, nothing went down there, considering there was a gang of security holding Melo in check.
Hmm…so what could have been said to make Melo so mad, especially since he was the one who initially fouled Garnett.
Well, the answer might be trending on Twitter right now.
Allegedly, during the game Kevin Garnett told Carmelo Anthony that his wife, LaLa, tastes like honey nut cheerios.
Ooooo Jesus!
Now, there’s no confirmation of this but judging by Carmelo’s strong reaction and the fact that Garnett is known for starting mess, I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t far from the truth. And if it is true, Garnett took it way too far. I understand spouting a certain amount of foolishness to get into your opponent’s head; but talking about a player’s wife, who is in attendance, is just too low down. How was Carmelo supposed to respond to that, whether it was true or not?!
So that’s the story we’re hearing.
Do you think K.G. said that? How should Carmelo have handled that situation?
Score! “La La’s Full Court Life” Renewed For A Third Season
VH1 hasn’t totally given up on non-ratchet black women. The network has just renewed La La Anthony’s reality show, “La La’s Full Court Life” for a third season to debut in 2013, and of course the TV star is bringing all of her celebrity friends along with her.
According to a press release on VH1′s site:
With her life and career in full swing, La La works to balance motherhood, marriage and friendships with besties Po and Dice. But Mrs. Anthony is not finished with her quest to conquer the world.
“La La’s Full Court Life” picks up where last season left off, with La jet setting around the world and making major moves. After co-starring in this year’s box-office smash Think Like A Man and expanding her new makeup line Motives for La La, La’s life has never been busier. Viewers will watch La La visit Puerto Rico to support Carmelo’s annual Court 4 Kids charity event while getting the chance to meet her extended family. She’ll also fly across the pond to cheer her hubby on during the 2012 London Olympics, all while meeting with potential European agents, offer a sneak peek at her Motives for La La line in the UK, appearing on British TV, attending a British soiree, and taking a crash course in hobnobbing with London’s elite.
With Kiyan ready to start his first day of school, La is coming to terms with the fact that her baby is growing up. With the upcoming 2012 presidential election piquing her interest, La is determined to get involved and use her celebrity status to make a difference. With a little help from La’s famous friends keeping her grounded, including Ludacris, Trina, Ciara, Estelle and Charlamagne Tha God, this season promises a ride she won’t soon forget.
A lot of people have classified this show as a snooze (along with “Hollywood Exes”), because there’s not enough drama going on, but that just really suggests reality TV can’t be entertaining if someone isn’t being ridiculously aggressive and ig’nat—hence VH1′s current formula for shows. I happen to like Lala’s little show and watching her grind and spend quality time with Po and Dice and her other gal pals. I’ll definitely watch next season. Will you?

Another Win For America: US Men’s hoops trounces Tunisia by 47 points
From thegrio.com
LONDON (AP) — Kobe Bryant’s barely broken a sweat. LeBron James hasn’t scored in double figures, and U.S. coach Mike Krzyzewski has swapped lineups like he’s trading Olympic pins.
After two games of the men’s tournament, America’s superteam has started slowly and showed some real vulnerability.
Maybe the world has a chance after all.
Maybe not.
Getting a jump start from its second unit after a less-than-inspiring first half by the starters, the U.S. turned on the burners after halftime and rolled to a 110-63 win over Tunisia on Tuesday night to improve to 2-0 in preliminary play — just as expected.
Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Love scored 16 points apiece and Kevin Durant added 13 for the Americans, who led by only 13 at halftime before outscoring Tunisia (0-2) 64-30 in a second half that became another highlight loop of alley-oop lobs, dunks and crowd-pleasing passes.
Krzyzewski began the second half with his reserves and Anthony, Love, Deron Williams, Russell Westbrook and Andre Iguodala responded with a 21-3 run that made it 67-36 and seemed to satisfy their coach, who didn’t look all that happy with his team’s effort when he left the floor at halftime.
