The Cannes Film Festival is underway in the French Riviera right now. And while everyone’s head was turned to gaze at the celebs on the red carpet, thieves snatched $1 million worth of Chopard jewelry that was supposed to be worn by the famous guests.

The rocks were taken from a room at the Hotel Novotel, where a Chopard employee had them stored in a security box. Chopard sent 40 people to the festival to outfit the stars in their jewels, according to The Guardian. Cindy Crawford (shown above) is among the celebs that have already worn Chopard gems. Julianne Moore was also wearing Chopard, but you probably didn’t notice it because of what was going on with the shoes. Egads!

The police have no suspects so far in the case.

“In an ironic twist, the jewels went missing between around 8pm and 3am on Thursday night, just as Sofia Coppola’s The Bling Ring had its premiere,” notes The Guardian. Just for fun, here’s the trailer for that movie.
