Ever since I heard the slowed beat of Ghost Town DJ’s “My Boo” drop, I instantly had Ciara’s latest single “Body Party” on repeat. I knew the video would feature her slithering and sliding in moves that would keep EMTs busy for weeks as women across the country blew out their backs and pulled hamstrings trying to imitate the moves for their men.

I wasn’t disappointed when Ciara scissored her legs in the air for boyfriend Future as they play out how they first met for the video, but it was like deja-vu as I saw her relationship slowly steal the spotlight from her first two singles. Is it me, or does something happen to a recording artist when they fall in love and choose to flaunt it in their work? After watching Ciara’s steamy video for “Body Party,” I couldn’t help but wonder if she’s risking the buzz she’s worked so hard to build back by allowing boyfriend, Future, to make so many appearance.

Mixing business and pleasure is a risky move.  There’s something about when celebs turn the camera on to their personal lives that causes their careers and their relationships to fall apart.  Here are a few celebs who might want to think about leaving their boo behind-the-scenes in the future.

1. J.Lo

J.Lo had a pretty good buzz going as a singer even if her “hits” were only heard in the clubs, but as soon as Ben Affleck took J.Lo from the block to the yacht in her Jenny From the Block vid, Jenny’s singing career went man down for a minute and she was left man-less and a little embarrassed.  Not to mention Ben credited the cameo with almost ruining his career. And who can forget how clearly sprung she was on the track “Dear Ben,” in which she sings,” I love you, you’re perfect.” Well apparently the feelings weren’t mutual; Ben quickly married another Jennifer after their break up and made like 11 kids with her.  Sting. Word of advice for the former fly girl: You can sing all the love songs you want about your boo, just don’t name them after him and throw said boo in all your videos.

Last week we told you all there were rumors going around that Robin Thicke was out on BET’s hit reality show parody, “The Real Husbands of Hollywood.” Since that time, Hevin Hart has come forward to confirm the rumors are true, but he shut down whispers that his antics are what made Robin walk. Kevin told HipHollywood in a recent interview that, basically, Robin Thicke is a singer — not an actor or comedian — and he wanted to get back to doing what he does, which is sing.

Makes sense, right?

Duane Martin on the other hand tried to crack a few jokes at Robin’s expense that, truthfully, just came out awkward. When Hip Hollywood asked him his thoughts on Paula Patton’s husband leaving the show, he essentially called him the Bobby Brown and Eddie Kane (shout out to the Five Heartbeats) of the group, claiming one day he’ll come back begging to be on the show again.

Maybe it’s just me or maybe Duane was still in “character” when he did this interview, but his “Nights Like This” joke fell horribly flat and seemed to only add to suspicion that there was some real-life drama on the set of the “Real Husbands.” All I’m saying is I think a simple “we’ll welcome him back when he’s ready” would have sufficed, Duane.

Bobby Brown

It seems like everyone always wants to blame Bobby Brown for introducing Whitney Houston to drugs, but now that it has officially been revealed that it was  Whitney’s brother who introduced her, it’s time to cut him some slack. Don’t take this the wrong way, yes he did do a lot to Whitney in their tumultuous 14-year marriage, but it’s time to acknowledge that he is not the one primarily responsible for her drug addiction. Bobby Brown was indeed telling the truth when he claimed he never introduced Whitney to drugs.

Six weeks following the death of musical icon Whitney Houston, the National Enquirer published a story, claiming that Bobby Brown was not only cheating on his then-fiancée, Alicia Etheredge with Houston, but that he also had plans of marrying her in the weeks preceding her untimely death. According to the Daily News, the source who “leaked” the story to the tabloid was Derrick Handspike, a music industry vet. Now, Brown is suing the paper for the accusations, which he claims are false.

Court documents filed by Brown yesterday at the Manhattan Federal Court reveal that the 44-year-old singer is suing the National Enquirer for $1million. Bobby is also filing a suit against the said source, Derrick Handspike. The story in question ran on March 26, 2012.

Ironically, Brown and Handspike have worked together in the past, as he is the co-author of Brown’s 2008 tell-all book, Bobby Brown: The Truth, The Whole Truth and Nothing But, a book that Whitney seemed really hurt by. 

“Miss Houston is sad that Bobby feels he needs to say such things but she chooses to take the high road and will not speak badly about the father of her child even if it’s to set the record straight,” a representative for Houston told People.com of the book, months after its publication.

So far there has been no word regarding the suit from Handspike or the Enquirer. We’ll continue to keep you posted.

After releasing new music, touring with New Edition, and getting married again to manager Alicia Etheridge, for a while there, we were starting to think that Bobby Brown had completely turned his life and circumstances around. But after earning his third DUI in October, it seems that we were wrong. The man known as much for his musical talents as for his legal problems and substance and alcohol abuse in the past is back in trouble with the law, and has been sentenced to 55 days in prison for another arrest for driving under the influence.

According to TMZ, Brown was pulled over in October in Los Angeles after being caught driving erratically and doing so on a suspended license. Said license was suspended because of a prior DUI conviction in 2012, and according to TMZ, he was convicted for another DUI before that in ’96. The singer was also caught without a court ordered breathalyzer in his vehicle that he was to have after those previous convictions. Brown tried to plead no contest to his charges after initially pleading not guilty, but on top of his 55 days, he was given four years worth of probation and ordered to participate in a much needed 18-month alcohol program. Brown is scheduled to turn himself in by March 20 and has also been ordered to go to multiple Alcoholics Anonymous classes each week until he’s officially locked down.

It’s definitely sad that Brown is still finding himself in and out of legal trouble for these types of things, but we all know that maintaining sobriety after many years of doing the complete opposite is no easy task. Here’s to hoping he’ll finally turn things around for himself and his family.

Michael Houston sat down with his mother Cissy and spilled his guts to Her Royal O-ness on “Oprah’s Next Chapter” … admitting he was the first person who did drugs with Whitney.

Man! When I reflect back on the trajectory of Bobby Brown’s career, I always think this brotha was set. He left a beloved boy band to have his own solo success. He was featured on soundtracks for blockbuster movies, he was married to America’s sweetheart and was even starting to act a little bit. But along the way Bobby became more known for his antics than his musical talent. Unfortunately, that’s how the cookie crumbled. He’s not as successful as he once was but he’s still touring with New Edition and we can always enjoy his hits, like this one, “On Our Own” from the Ghostbusters soundtrack. You’ve got to love the “Oo, ooo, o, ooo” part. So Good!
