If you’re a person who enjoys when popular plays and movies are remade with all-Black casts, you’ll be thrilled to know that a Caribbean version of Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Macbeth is in the works. The starring lineup for the film version of the play entitled, Macbett, includes Sanaa Lathan, Harry Lennix, Blair Underwood, Evan Ross and Terrence Howard, who is also executive producing the film, reports Shadow and Act.

A brief synopsis of the remake, as per Macbett‘s filmmakers reads:

“After a gallant military victory, General Macbett encounters the “Weird Sisters,” who are the spirit daughters of Mother Africa and reign over fire, water, earth and sky. They delight in manipulating Macbett by feeding him predictions of royal titles including “King.” Macbett soon becomes obsessed with ambition, as does his beautiful and ruthless wife Lady Macbett. As Macbett and his Lady spiral downward, indulging in treachery and political assassinations, they are soon haunted by their murderous deeds and driven mad. In a true exemplification of a tragedy, Macbett is defeated by his own zealous thirst for power, a heartbreaking end to a once beloved Hero.”

Terrence Howard will be playing the role of Macbett, while Sanaa Lathan will starring side-by-side with the Red Tails actor, as she will be playing the role of Lady Macbett. Howard’s co-executive producers include ReShaun Frear and Kip Konwiser. Pre-production for Macbett begins September 2013. The film will be shot in Jamaica and Puerto Rico.

Uh, can you say amazing? I am too stoked about this Macbeth remake!

What are your thoughts on Macbett? What do you think of producers deciding to spice up the storyline by adding a Caribbean twist?

Tennessee Williams’ hit Broadway play A Streetcar Named Desire, which originally starred Marlo Brando (Stella!), is coming back to the stage with an all black cast.

This time around, Blair Underwood is playing the role of Stanley. Nicole Ari Parker plays Blanche DuBois, Daphne Rubin-Vega is Stella, and Wood Harris plays Mitch. The play’s producers,  Stephen C. Byrd and Alia M. Jones, were behind the 2008 revival of  Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

The revival production, which opened this past weekend at the Broadhurst Theatre, is receiving moderate to favorable reviews. The Associated Press called it “ flawed but compelling,” giving it 2 1/2 stars out of four. While Entertainment Weekly gave it a B+.  But you’re the best critic when it comes to your tastes, so it’s best to see the show for yourself.

Check out pictures of the cast from their opening weekend, below.

After the shows, the cast attended an after party. It’s good to see Wood Harris working. The man is so talented. And we’re loving Nicole’s dress and (natural?) hair.

It’s fun to spend all day drooling over our favorite chocolate eye candies like Idris, Common, Lamman, and the list goes on and on. But in order to completely get a good grasp on our fantasy weddings to our luscious boos, we need to imagine how our in-laws will look in our photos, don’t we? Besides that, we also need to give them proper thanks for bringing such beautiful men into the world for us Noirettes to enjoy. So to these fathers and mothers, we say simply, Thank You!

Check out part 1 of our series – surely, there is more to come and many more parents to thank.

Idris Elba and Winston Elba

We certainly didn’t save the best for last. Idris Elba, as you all know, is the reigning king of Black swexy. His fine balance of swagger, masculinity, good looks and charm make him a first round pick all over the world. The London-raised actor’s father (Winston Elba) is from Sierra Leone and his mother is from Ghana.

Talk about sexual chocolate!

I’ve thought actor Blair Underwood was gorgeous since he was trying to woo Sheila E. in Krush Groove, and as he has grown up in front of the camera (he’s now 47–can you believe it!?), he’s only aged like a fine–make that an OH so fine wine. And if you needed any other reasons to love you some Blair, go watch Set It Off…*shivers* But until then, check out this gallery of the delicious brother and let us know if he’s still your imaginary boo.

Tyrese Calls Black People to Action in ‘A Dreamer’s Dream’

You may not typically equate Tyrese with black consciousness given some of the scrutiny he’s come under lately with his music videos and his relationship with black women, but the singer, actor, director, and producer has shown another side of himself with a new project titled “A Dreamer’s Dream.

The video, which has gone viral over the past 10 days or so, was directed and produced by Tyrese who brought along Blair Underwood and Jill Scott for the project. Blair stars as the voice of a man who has lost his way and is visited by Dr. Martin Luther King (Tyrese) and Coretta Scott King (Jill) in a dream after praying to God for a sign of what he would have him do with his life.

In the dream, Blair asks Dr. King what heaven is like and how the civil rights struggle affected his family. He then asks both for their thoughts on President Obama’s election, voting, the criminal justice system and modern-day slavery, and even divorce in what appears to be a call to action for the black community.

In the end, the dreamer asks Dr. King what we can do to make his dream a reality today, to which he replies, “Love, vote, education, fight,” adding, “you owe us nothing less than we owed you: to run the race before us so that we may obtain the victor’s crown.”

This is a pretty amazing way to end Black History Month. Check out the inspirational video here and tell us what you think.

Over 40 and Fine: Mature Men We Mush Over!

So the trend now is for older women to play the “cougar” role, dipping their toes in a pool of men who were probably in diapers when they were in high school (yeah, I went there). And while the cougar prototype has been embraced, what about us ladies who crush on men older than us (we want a cool nickname too)?

There’s a wealth of fine men over the age of 40 in Hollywood (and walking the street right now) that could be moving around with walkers in a few years and still might catch our eye cause they’ve just got “it”. So with that, here’s a list of 10 men who will always make us think un-pure thoughts from the 40 and up club.
